Celeb spots

Inspired by Tim's run in with Abi Titmuss http://www.qype.co.uk/place/138534#194872 ("I did not pester her, and she did not attack me. Also, she kept her clothes on throughout the meal."), this is the place to tell us when you spy a sleb.

Who's the coolest person you've ever spotted?

Has to be David Bowie for me - was in the Theatre Royal in Haymarket , years ago.

He was with Iman too so I think I get extra points for that too right?

    Definitely.

For me, the coolest has to be Terry Gilliam walking along the river in Henley.

I saw Terry Gilliam too at the World’s Largest Coconut Orchestra record attempt.

Chose some sandwiches with Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics in a Tesco in Fulham last week.

Steven Berkoff in Victoria (?). I once held an elevator for Alec Guiness in Fortnum & Mason - unfortunatly I just saw an elderly gentleman and didn’t realize who he was until my friend said ’ Now you can say you’ve held an elevator for Alec Guiness’ turned around to see, but the doors had closed.

John Hurt in Broadwick Street Market. Diminutive chap. And Richard Harris in the Coal Hole on the Strand. There’s a good story around that but it needs to be told with a drink in hand, really.

Richard Harris was never without a drink in his hand!!!!!!! Speaking of diminutive chaps (John Hurt previous post) I used to have the biggest thing about Johnny Depp until I saw him a few years ago. It isn’t that he’s just short, it’s that he’s petite (perfectly proportioned, but petite) I just expected him to be tall for some reason…...Never felt the same about him since!!!

Re John Hurt. I knew him well when I was dating his cousin. he lived near me and we were the only 2 people ever to be thrown out of grimsby School of Art. He became an actor and I went back 20 years later.
Being in “The Biz” from an early age I guess I met, and worked with, so many famous people them just became the norm.

David Beckham - several times my mother even told him that he best play well in the england game that night as my dad had tickets! I have also seen nearly all of the current England football team as I shared a lift with them in the airport as I was going on holiday. Met Matthew Kelly, members of Basement Jaxx at a gig in Manchester, InMe at a gig in Stoke, Noel Fielding in the audience of a gig, Dev from Coronation Street at John Lewis in Alderley Edge, Sally Webster from Coronation Street, Anthea Turner at a country fair, Victoria Beckham in tesco (with David), my Auntie dated Francis Rossi from Status Quo, Abi Clancy on a train to Manchester recently, Ross Noble in London outside Subway, Trude Mostue (from Vets in Practice programme aired years ago), Jimmy Saville in the town where my Auntie and Uncle live, Victoria Wood supervising her children on the play area at Tatton Park, Will Smith in New York when he was filming I am Legend and Dizzee Rascal at the Gatecrasher Festival. I’m sure there are others but over the years I forget a lot of them!

Quite lucky in my job that I come across famous people filming or working in Blackpool quite often (I work in events) Last year’s Illuminations Switch On was the coolest - David Tennant - he’s so tall and gorgeous with a lovely accent. Unfortunately, he thinks I’m odd as I was first spotted by him jumping around like a lunatic pulling a friend out of a Dalek costume just after the lights came on. No chance there then! Better than that though was working on Robbie Williams’ video for Advertising Space which he filmed in a local pub, local working mens’ club and on a bus driving through the Illuminations. Shame he’s not cool any more now he fronts ‘little green men’ shows! Working with Russell Brand in an ice cream van was quite cool too, until he nearly blew us up with a discarded cup of green tea on the OB truck desk!

I am notoriously bad at dashing around and not looking where I am going..in and around London, over the years, I have crashed into Trevor Eve, Benny Hill, Avon from Blakes 7 , Zoe Wanna Maker, Lionel Blair and Michael Palin but the best was Olly Reed running me over, as a kid, in Tranfalgar Sq. then yelling at (I was on the bonnet of his car) and so I yelled back..stopped all the traffic a while..wasn’t hurt.

Avon from Blakes 7 Templar! Love it :-)

I dated Lemmy for a while in the ‘80’s and stayed with him and the band in Willsden. He introduced me to a couple of names, which I have forgotten sadly. We are still friends after a fashion though.
Most people I have met are a little off kilter, which amuses me. I met and got the autographs of Russ Abbott, Ian Botham, Chas and Dave. (Airport in Jersey. I was 18 and had my picture taken sitting on their knees.)

My best has to be Jack Lemmon when I was working at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle. I said hello, and he smiled a smile that shriveled my enthusiam, didn’t reply, and disappered into his room.
