Falls du dich mal in Friedenau/Steglitz befindest und suchst ein Italiener der farbelhafte Delikatessen anbietet sowohl als auch einen super guten Kaffee neben aussergewoehnlicher Gastfreundlichkeit, dann musst du zu Herrn Tommaso bei Punto Uno.

Punto Uno war eine zeitlang mein ueblicher Cafe als ich in Friedenau wohnte. Ich muss sagen, wie der Herr Tommaso mit seinen Kunden umgeht und die Gemuetlichkeit in seinem Laden sind beide top, was eigentlich nicht so oft in Berlin vorkommt!

Die Auswahl an delikatess angebote ist super und alles ist sehr authentisch Italienisch. Der Kaffee ist auch vom feinsten und mit Liebe serviert.

Preise sind auch nicht nach der Umgebung hochgesetz, und der Laden ist einfach mit der M48 Bus zu erreichen.

This is Electronic music clubbing in its purest form. This place is no-frills, grassroots, genuine and above all minimal.

The place itself is not really something to look at, the main floor is devoid of any decoration. The downstairs room is classy however, and as already mentioned above, minimal.

This is also the type of music you will find here mainly: Minimal and Tech-House.

This place both aesthetically and aurally embodies the word minimal which allows for such an enormous space for your own feeling! Don’t come here to get wasted and drunkenly jump around trying to bash your pelvis into any female-like object that stands before you, our society has places for you, they’re called dive bars and bordellos.

Robert Johnson is an awesome club, where you will hear some bomb tech-house spun by some of the genre’s both established as well as up n coming stars. I was fortunate enough to hear a 2×4 set from Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin back in 2004, and just recently caught Rhadoo, Raresh & Pedro at the beginning of August. At the first show I went till 11:30, and the recent show I was there till 8. Just can’t stop at this place… and the sound system is absolutely stunning, crisp, clear, and deep…

Be prepared to pay cover however, and unfortunately you’ll have to dress somewhat presentable, this isn’t Berlin!

I docked a point for RIDICULOUS concession prices and overall chaotic mess of people… oh well, it was RADIOHEAD!!!!

I didn’t mind the negatives, I just didn’t buy anything or move once we found our seats. hehe I’m a purist.

Aside from being the sickest concert ever, I will say that the lighting and stage setup (yes also done by people with the band, but is subject to the capabilities of the venue) was so sweet. They put on a truly professional show, in grand fashion.

The four stars mainly point to the lighting/stage setup, my memories of the concert, and the fact that BIG names come here, so therefore it obviously garners some respect for being able to handle the capacity and show requirements. I will also say that being out in the “foresty” area with greenery and fresh air was a welcome atmosphere coming from the big city of Berlin. Just an overall great location and vibe here.

RECOMMENDED, see if your favorite band is playing here, and come early to grab yourself a good seat!!!!

I am being quite generous here with 3 stars, mostly because the whole “healthy juice bar” idea is still quite new in Germany… and I come from CA where if your town does not have a Jamba Juice, then you live in the cuts…

This place should actually only get two stars, cuz the smoothie I had was not so great (and overpriced for 0,33L). I believe the ingredients were fresh and probably of decent quality, but that unfortunately did not translate into a tasty smoothie. They use only yoghurt really, no sorbet like Jamba Juice, and not really any milk either… all in all the consistency is much too thick, and the taste was so simple and one sided, not very smoothie-esque if you ask me.

You probably have already guessed i’m completely biased, and LOVE Jamba Juice like my own mother. But honestly, go give this place a try, smoothies are simply not up to par (and supplements cost an arm and a leg, so you won’t need any supplements to help out those arms and legs that you used to pay for your smoothie with)

Minus 1 star for concession prices, ticket prices and pretentious attitude.

But hey, Berlin can’t be ONLY alternative and low budget everywhere… Berlin has it’s classy sides…

Tempodrom is one of them, and I was fortunate enough to see Sigur Ros here last month. It was the best concert I’ve seen aside from Radiohead back in July in Berlin.

EXCELLENT sound quality, and execution of the show. No slip ups, no issues, no nothing, just an amazing concert. How hard is this to achieve you might ask? well, let’s just say it’s hard to put a price on professionalism, depends on who you ask and what you’re paying for. In any case, this place is solid. I would like to point out the intimate vibe here too, very cool when you’ve only got circle of about 2 thousand I’d say.

Two negatives: seating wasn’t as intuitive as I had hoped, but that might have been the work of my good friend Mary Jane. Another thing that wasn’t all that cool was that during one of the songs, some guy got up and started dancing at the front of the hall in front of the stage. He was actually embodying the feelings of the entire audience, but was probably the only one with enough courage to get up out of his seat and go dance. Well, sure enough not more than a 30 seconds later an usher took him back to his seat… kinda weak if you ask me. Oh well… Still think it’s great. And gotta love that architecture…

This place is great, let me tell you why:

-cheap ticket prices
-superchill vibe
-cool inner lighting in the chill room
-decently sized concert hall
-unpretentious philosophy
-small name venue (for the most part)
-cool surrounding area

I saw a California stoner-rock band here a few months ago: Dead Meadow. I thought they were OK, just ok though, but that’s the concert. The sound was well set up, the place had a super chill vibe pre-concert. Really cool beats going on before the band actually begun. The chill room in the back had cool lighting, and a comfortable seating arrangement. I did not purchase anything from their concession area, but I imagine prices are far more reasonable than at a larger more pretentious venue.

Def worth checking out.

and btw, I’m going to see My Morning Jacket here in November, who’s coming withe me???

Minus one star for equally overpriced beers as at Beach Bar 61 (Moeckernstrasse). WAIT I almost forgot, I WOULD dock this place another star for having the music turned up WAY too loud on a relaxing sunday afternoon… I really didn’t understand it, cuz it made me all nervous and stressed…

But what this place lacks in location and non-city feel, it makes up for with it’s comfortable and stylish furniture. I’m pretty sure they don’t offer Hookahs at this place, but I think that would make it even 10x better. It would have the coolest vibe in Berlin if they offered hookahs, and played only Thievery Corporation and other trip-hop/electronica artists.

Only a few volleyball courts, but hey, it’s not the point at Luna’s, the couches, don’t forget the couches!!! Also have relaxing beach chaise-lounges… very cool…

YES, BEACH BARS!!!!

So, I understand why Berliners like their beach bars, cuz they live in Berlin…

Coming from California, this idea of a beach-style bar is still new to me. I understand it tho, and dig it too.

Minus 1 star for overpriced beer. Other than that this place is awesome. Really cool vibe here, totally relaxed, they even have janky-ass chairs made from 2×4s and old beer crates. A BIG plus about this particular beach bar is that it’s somewhat secluded and so there are NO buildings to be seen. Only trees, sand, and the bar area, it takes you right out of the city, even if only for a lil while…

Def cool too that there is volleyball to watch, and I’m certainly glad there are people playing, cuz, shit, when I sit down with a beer here, the last thing I want to do is jump around and hit a ball over a net (and poorly at that).

The best time is just before sunset, in the summer, when the sky gets orange, and you can sit along the looooong wooden bench by the volleyball squares. Close your eyes, sip your beer and let the sun warm your eyelids…

Highly Recommended!

I am only docking the one star because this place gets HECTIC at peak times and you will have nearly no chance finding a place to sit, and the food could take long.

Now on to the positives:

-DELICIOUS Thai dishes
-FRESH ingredients
-LIVELY atmosphere
-GREAT prices for quality Thai food
-BUMPIN music in the background (some locals call this place “Techno Thai” cuz they play a lot of electronic music, hehe MY kinda place!)
-QUICK turnaround (generally speaking)

Um, don’t go here, it’s a terrible waste.

Let’s see, it’s supposed to be a very famous soccer bar/pub, and yes there were probably lots of famous people there, but cmon, if you’re going to have that reputation, then at least have some big TV’s and/or some projector screens so that everyone can watch. If you don’t have one of the maybe 8 good spots in the entire place, then you’re screwed into watching on a tiny tv built in the stone age, sitting ABOVE the bar nearly on the next floor, I mean, who wants to watch soccer when you can’t see the ball…

The drinks were also overpriced and the service unfriendly.

I will give it 2 stars for:

-having been famous and actually having had famous soccer stars as guests, so there is some genuine history here
-being close to the S-bahn station, this place must really suck if I’m trying to be generous and citing proximity to public transportation as a reason to come here, ugh…
