Blue Legume - Stoke Newington

101 Stoke Newington Church St, Stoke Newington , London N16 0UD

05-12-2007

The Blue Legume has a myriad of inexpensive vegetarian, fish and meat dishes. If you intending to eat here then be clever and grab a seat by the bar with its mosiac tables because it does get busy. They do have an airy conservatory at the back for large group bookings.
Try the smoothies, fruit juices, eggs cooked in several different ways and alsp special delights like organic waffles accompanied by a fruit platter and maple syrup. for brunch.
At night the ambience changes with the candles, soundtrack of easy listeneing jazz complementing a decent wine list. The cuisine is Turkish inspired, the pies de resistance being the aubergine parcel with roasted vegetables crowned with goat's cheese, and leave some room for the legendary lemon cheesecake.

CaribQueen Thanks Apprill!

Can't wait to try it out for brunch :)

Story Deli - Westminster

3 Dray Walk, London E1 6QL

05-12-2007

This is a no nonesense 100% organic pizzeria and cafe situated in the very heart of Brick Lane. The interior with its distressed floor-boards,and decorative bags of flour makes it an interesting place to be. The food is served on wooden plates and it offers a great lunch-time menu. Much of the menu has pizza but all the toppings are tasty and very different ranging from prawns to pumpkin on a an unusual thin and crispy base.Add the Story's own hot pepper sauce and you will never look another greasy pizza in the mouth. If after all that you have room go for the ice-creams they are delicious.

Linus Hmm healthy pizza? Sounds good, will have to give it a go.

Le Mercury - Islington

140A Upper Street, Islington, London N1 1QY

05-12-2007

This is a friendly and inexpensive French eatrie perched on the corner of Upper St and Almeida street. In my opinion it has carved a good niche for itself in a market where there are hordes of over-priced and over-rated restaurants. The management has particularly laid back attitude towards customers and the food is inexpensive. Starters cost around 3.95 and main course around 6.45. A starter of gnocchi with butternut squash was light and delicious, the steak and chips was cooked just to right level and the banana shortcake with strawberries completed the meal nicely. It has pictures of Paris all over the walls and lit by candle light stuck in arty bottles.

LMNT - Dalston

316 Queensbridge Road, London E8 3NH

05-12-2007

If you love exaggeration and over the top themes then a visit to LMNT is a must because its the epitome of bad taste. Its only USP is its strange decor. There are Greek and Roman drama figures meeting those from ancient Egypt;Kitsch statues of Cleopatra,a Sphinx and a greek God standing around the place;the ceiling is covered in drapes;a mural depicts a medieval Tuscan landscape. The layout of the dining area is strange infact its in a giant urn. As for the menu it puts Medittarean cuisine to a shame and very basic. I had the tomatoe tatin 3.45,main dish of lamb chops with potato gratin 8.95,side dish of vegetable 2.35 and a dessert of banoffi short bread 3.45. The clientele is mainly a diverse mix of locals, huge birthday groups attracted by the novelty factor.

78apples Your review sounds amazingly similar to Time Out’s review on its website….

La Fromagerie - Marylebone

2-6 Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EW

05-12-2007

This tastin cafe at the back of a Mrylebone Gourmet cheese shop is very attractively skylit. Its does packed over the weekends when local foodies and people from outside the area cram in here and congregate at the communal table. Many like to wait for a table but sometimes they jus have to share. The cheese plate is the centre piece of this establishment. All of the cheeses have detailed descriptions should you want to buy any and take them home.Other than that there were various pies, charcuterie and fish dishes on the menu. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
