The Beat Club - Glasgow
375 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 3HU

This is a nightclub/live music venue hidden away on sauchiehall street (only doorway is visible from street). It is very small but the staff are friendly, drinks are reasonable and they play a good selection of indie/alternative music.

Great little nightclub aimed at students between the age of 18-22 ish. Good selection of music on in different rooms on different nights. Generally speaking the main room is fairly cheesy pop music, the attic upstairs tends to be more indie/alternative and there’s another room somewhere which is more r&b/hip-hop. Cheap drinks, friendly staff (mostly) and good atmosphere.

This place doubles up as a really good live music venue and a nightclub. The staff always seem to be friendly, the drinks are reasonable and the venue is a good layout for gigs. The disco ball is apparantely the largest in the world…if you’re anything like me you will be too scared to stand under it in case it falls, you would surely be crushed!
Mr Chips - Glasgow

A chippy which is opened late and handy for the clubs. However, the food isn’t great and the prices go up as the night goes on…expect to pay anything up to a fiver for a very small portion of chips and gravy (typical post booze snack). This place makes it’s cash from exploiting drunk and hungry students coming out of the garage and other sauchiehall street clubs. The noodle place next door is much better, i’d go there instead!

If you love seafood then you must try the City Merchant! It’s a lovely little restaurant in the heart of the Merchant City…as the name suggests. It has a welcoming homely atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and efficient. However, the best thing about this restaurant is the food, which is simply sublime. The menu offers a good variety of freshly prepared dishes which are a little pricey but worth every penny. I would suggest reserving a table as everytime I have been to this restaurant it has been very busy, which is always a good sign!

This is a nice authentic feeling Italian restaurant. The food is very nice (especially the mussels in white wine sauce which is divine!). This would be a very nice restaurant for dinner if it wasn’t for a couple of things letting it down. Firstly, the staff were quite grumpy and not very helpful. Secondly, when I was there I ordered a half pint but I was charged the cost of the drink and a further £8 for reopening the bar despite not being told it was closed and that a charge would apply. I didn’t know anything about the charge until I recieved my bill which I obviously wasn’t happy about! I won’t be going back, which is a shame because the food was really nice.

A nice family orientated restaurant. Lovely decor and comfortable seating. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they will explain how the menu works if you have never been before. The food is freshly prepared, very tasty and very reasonable. You won’t have to wait long for your meals either. The menu offers a good selection of dishes and of course there are a couple of vegetarian options. The dessert menu is a little disappointing but still a nice place for the family to eat out.
The Carling Academy - Glasgow

A really nice live music venue on the southside of the river. Lovely decor, friendly staff, good atmosphere. It never seems to take long to get served at the bar, which is always a good thing. The drinks are pretty much what you would expect from a venue i.e. a little overpriced but not too bad. The lower standing area is divided into 3 tiers which makes standing visibility better than in most venues, especially for short dudes who always find themselves surrounded by 6 ft plus folk! Only little annoyance is that there is always a really big que for the girls toilets…other than that, great venue!
O'Neill's Irish Bar - Glasgow

A nice little pub to have something to eat while shopping. It’s close by to Queen St station and Buchanan Street. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the interior is cosy and comfortable. The food is really tasty, prepeared quickly and very reasonable. Also a nice pub to sit and have a quiet drink in, but can get busy on match days.

This is an alright little venue/club on the southside of town. The decor is really in need of an update but the staff are friendly and the drinks are reasonable. I would do some research as to whats on before just turning up because the range of music on offer on different nights is quite extensive, from indie/rock to dance music. A nice little venue for gigs and aftershow parties.
