Bistrot J'Go - Capitole

16 Place Victor Hugo, 31000 Toulouse

09-07-2008 (atualizado em 09-10-2008)

This is a great little restaurant if you like a variation of good food.

My French isn’t the best so I asked the waiter what he would recomend for my friend and I and we ended up with a Black Pork and the largest most delicious Duck Breast I have ever seen. They also have a good selection of regional wines.

Situated above a poplular wine bar this was the ideal finish to a lovely evening and just a polite stumble away from my hotel, Ours Blanc Centre.

Would definately visit again.

Ping Pong Restaurant - Westminster

South Bank Centre Festival Terrace, Belvedere Road, Waterloo, London SE1 8XX

31-07-2008 (atualizado em 09-10-2008)

This place is fun…...............Clean bright, modern and the staff are very efficient.

There is a list of various dishes - fried, steamed, rice etc. All you have to do is tick the box beside your choice and before you know it you are set upon by various staff piling your table with lots of amazing plates of food, dipping sauces, pancakes, wine, water…........... and as quickly as it came the empties are cleared away to make room for the next surge of food.

In the main area of the restaurant there are big round turning tables, ideal for a larger group of friends who wish to share dishes.

I came away feeling very full and the meal was really quite inexpensive. £50 for two of us which included wine and water.

Best Western Macrander Hotel Dresden - Leipziger Vorstadt

Buchenstr. 10, 01097 Dresden

26-09-2008 (atualizado em 09-10-2008)

This is the hotel which I usually stay at when visiting Dresden. Its clean, bright and has friendly staff that speak good English.

For around €109 you get a fantastic choice at breakfast and in the adjoining hotel you are allowed access to a funky bar, restaurant and swimming pool.

Its not quiet in the centre of Dresden, although only a short taxi ride, but if you are brave enough to walk the streets, ( it feels very safe) you will find many lovely little bars and restaurants locally.

Viceroy II - Yeovil

98 Middle Street, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 1NE

31-07-2008 (atualizado em 25-08-2008)

What can I say…............traditional English curry house this is not.

It follows the high standards of its sister restaurant next door with white bright table cloths and a bright modern interior.

No more sitting on a seat in a pale skirt only to find an unmovable yellow blob on it the next morning. This is chic for Yeovil with its locally made leather seated chairs and mirrored walls.

I have to say that I am being quickly converted from the girl who just has Indian because her partner likes it, to suggesting the restaurant myself.

Top tip is to ask the waiter what he recommends. This is food from the more traditional Northern and Southern areas of India and the waiters just love to suggest different things to try. They get quite excited. Mmnn. This place does traditional dessert too…...

Would give a 5 star but I feel there are still a couple of teething problems. I will have another meal soon and maybe upgrade them then.

*I’ve just been there again and now upgrading this place to a 5 star - Its a must if you love your spices…......

Favorites include, Nanna sa Dosa, Fish Onion Roast, Kadai Ghost and my partner loves Gulab Jamun. Takeaways now take hours to choose now too…........

Icarus hey, uve made some great reviews. Sounds like there are some great places around. Ive clicked well written and helpful for you. I hope the extra points get you closer to ninja status. Hope you are well :)

Newbury Racecourse - Newbury

Newbury, Berkshire RG14 7NZ

05-08-2008

If you want a fun day out at the races but don’t want to fight the crowds, I highly recommend hiring a private box. Luckily for me, I wasn’t paying as I organized our annual company meeting here this year.

We hired a box which was set up, 'conference style’ in the morning with all the usual teas, coffees and cakes served at various times. This was to be converted to our dining room/private viewing box for the afternoon, but as the next door box was vacant, they simply slid some panels back and gave us a double sized room.

There were 10 of us and we had a fantastic buffet style meal. They offer a range of Bronze to Platinum menus but all look delicious, ours was silver and the quality and service of the food couldn’t be faulted.

We organized our own bar and all of the alcohol not drunk is refunded so it’s worth organizing more than you think.
We were allocated our own butler who was on the ball at every moment making sure we were all happy, with a full glass and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Then, of course was the view and the racing – lost every race and came away poor, but hey………..had a great day.

Just to give you an idea of price a private box will set you back about £550 and menus start at £36 per head. Our bar cost us about £300 (prices net of VAT). On the bright side you get discounted race tickets.
This would be a great treat for a special occasion or why not do what I did and just get your company to pay!

Rose & Crown Trent - Trent

Rose and Crown Trent, Trent, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 4SL

02-08-2008

This is a village pub that has been waiting for the right person to come along and run it for a long time. Partly thatched building with fireplaces and loads of character, stunning views, a great outdoor area. But for years it withered on in an unloved way attempting to do all the usual things a country pub does but never really making the first grade.

FINALLY! Last year it got a complete makeover and a new landlady who may I add is an amazing chef.

If you are working class or Lord of the Manor you will be made welcome and feel comfortable here. There are fine ales, home made nibbles at the bar and the choice of either a lighter snack of a proper full on menu which I guarantee will not let you down. The price is reasonable and the menu changed every day.

Sundays there is a special deal - £9.99 for 2 courses and 12.99 for 3. Well worth it!

As I said, this is a place for all, so don’t be surprised if you have dogs running in and out or children playing in the garden while the adults sip away at their Rose on ice or crunch away on Pork crackling left over from lunch.

Butlers Wharf Chop-House - Bermondsey

36e Shad Thames, Southwark, London SE1 2YE

31-07-2008

I had the most amazing experience here last year and would have given it a 5 star as everything was so perfect, food, service, view, ambiance.

Unfortunately I tripped back there again a couple of weeks ago and felt that the service wasn’t so good. There was a little confusion as to whether we were booked or not and ended up sitting at the bar for a while which I suppose wasn’t too bad considering we had champagne cocktails.

We ended up eating in the bar side of the restaurant so that we could secure a table outside and when the food came it couldn’t be faulted. The service may I add was also faultless from this point onwards
We had oysters, salmon, steak, all presented well and full of flavour.

Its not the cheapest place to eat, but I guess that the type of food I like will never be that cheap in London…...... Around about £50-£60 per head and wine generally starts at about £25 for the cheaper range (Large wine list)

This is my sort of place to eat in London and with it’s positioning, who could ask for more!

The Grange - Oborne

Sherborne, Dorset DT9 4LA

31-07-2008

This place is tucked away in the quiet village of Oborne just outside of Sherborne.

I haven’t done an evening meal here although I have heard that it’s very good.

As the main focus for the place is the evening meal and accommodation, the lunch menu is usually quite light, smoked salmon, pâté, that sort of thing. The desserts however are to die for, home made meringues, strawberries, cream and many other nice things.

I would say that lunch is quite expensive for the small amount you get but I think this place attracts more of the 'ladies who lunch’ brigade. I bought my parents here and they loved it.

Dinner I think is very different and the prices are in the region of £25-£35 per head plus wine. I’ll try it out and let you know….........

I also came to a wedding reception here a couple of years ago under the same management and they laid on the most wonderful hog roast buffet. The bride and groom couldn’t have been happier with the venue.

The Queens Arms - Sherborne

Corton Denham, Sherborne, Dorset DT9 4LR

Stuck in the middle of a small village, this recently renovated pub has a fresh modern feel about it whilst retaining its earthy muddy boot feeling.

Fantastic fancy pub food at a very reasonable price.

In the winter it has open fires and mould wine on the bar and in the summer, Pimms and pork pies…..........

There is a separate more formal restaurant or if you prefer you can eat in the equally comfortable bar area.

This place also has a handful of simply decorated guest rooms which have been kitted out to the highest standard. My partner and I live fairly locally but we experienced the B&B side in its sister pub a few miles away and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Whether it’s a morning coffee and a paper for an excuse to get out the house or a slap up meal on a special occasion, this place can cater for all.

As mentioned, it has a sister pub owned by the same family and renovated to the same standard in another village called Buckhorn Weston which I have written a very similar reveiw about.
