The Ritz Hotel - Mayfair
150 Piccadilly, St. James's, London W1J 9BR

I know, I know, I know - It’s the Ritz!! How can it not have 5 stars right? Let me explain, no, it will take too long….let me sum up. ;-) The building itself is beautiful, the decor is exquisite and makes you feel like royalty. The service is fabulous and the menu for the afternoon tea, what I had, it scrumptous. The price? Not that bad considering what you get… £37 for umlimited crust-cut-off sandwiches, mini assorted cakes and coffee or tea from a wide selection. Of course you have to book a month or two ahead to get a table and you are not allowed to take photographs.. However, this is not what bothered me. The place (palm court) is full of people trying to experience what it would be like to be posh and very rich so you can’t even pretend that you are one of those people that live like the other half because everyone else there is doing the same! :-D This is why it only gets four stars from me. Still, a good experience which is a must-do whilst you are in London in my opinion. Enjoy!!
Cape - Wapping
Thomas More Square, Wapping, London E1W 1YY

Previously known as the ‘Thomas More’, this pub has has a makeover and, infact, only re-opened last Thursday (27th May) to show off it’s new look. Quite nice look too, might I say, though I believe a re-think of the carpet colour is in order- at least so it matches the booth seats! There is a nice energy to the place and it has an incredible amount of space which is really refreshing. The staff are friendly however, a little new at their job it seems with one barmaid putting my white wine spritzer in a tall glass rather than a wine glass and with a straw…..???? Can not for the life of me think why… Anyhoo, the music is nice with a good mix of modern and old-skool and it’s not too loud that you can’t hear the person next to you speak. It’s got a lot of plasma flat screens for you sport fanatics and a nice area with two pool tables and possibly a band with a dance floor. This place has a lot of potential, but it doesn’t seem the owners are aware of it, which really is a pity because it could be the next best-secret-turned-popular! ;-) Excellent place for a group of friends to start/end/or stay for a good night however, be weary of their menu. The pasta dish looks great but is rather bland :-( Bit pricey for pub drinks but the decor now makes up for that!! Give it a try - what have you got to lose? If anything you will be happy that it is really close to Tower Hill tube station….:-D

This place is a great one for meeting friend before heading out to a club. Friendly staff, interesting decor and normal priced drinks (so bring money). Only problem is that the music selection is a little alternative so if it’s top 40 pop music you are after, find somewhere else. This is for the arty-farty type intellectuals who reserve the right to be wunky!! (wierd + Funky) Pretty trendy place for that type. Anything goes really so give it a go! ;-)

This place is a gem! Cheap and delicious food, friendly staff and you get to make your own dish! Great for the secret chef's within us all. Really good atmosphere, these guys have this process down to a T. It's very versatile too so you can go there before heading out for a nice formal meal or head there for casual meal on your lunch break. Be careful on time though because it is quite popular and the more patrons there are the longer you wait for your meal however, it's worth it! Have been here a few times now and loved it - good times! Plus you get better at creating your own meal the more you go. My advice? Do yourself a favour and give it a try with a group of friends, you won't be disappointed! Has great vegie choices and good wine selection too! Great value for money at this place.

Apart from the fact that this company is in property management which in itself only deserves two stars at most, this company happens to be extraordinary in the worse sense of the word. They seem to have an accounts lady that doesn't fully understand her own company's policy and procedures, therefore if you do not keep an eye on your rent (whether it is getting paid electronically or by cash) it is likely that they will make a mistake because this woman seems to get mixed up with the simplest of tasks. For example, a tenant walks in to the office and pays £750 cash in rent to the accounts lady, which seems to slip her mind, so you get a letter in the mail saying that you are (the exact amount you paid in cash) in arrears! Odd?? I thought so, especially when this is a company based on tenants paying their rent. You would think they would remember when they pay right? Wrong. So, not only do they have account clerks lacking on-the-job knowledge, but their agents seem to lack this handy trait too. For example, if you want to view a place you are interested in, make sure you ask the agent who is showing you if they have cleared it with the current tenants first. I know, Property Management 101 right?! Doesn't install much faith in an agent when he can't even open up the place to show you what it looks like does it! My advice to you? If you are looking for a place to live and find out that it is managed by this company, i urge you to try, try again!
poshtotty I have also delt with this company in the past and find your review accurate down to the last detail. I wouldnt wish this company on my worst enemy!

poshtotty PS. Giving them one star is far to generous! If Qype allowed the option, of no stars or "minus" stars, this would be more deserving!

Salsa! - Soho
96 Charing Cross Road, Soho, Leicester Square, London WC2H 0JG
25-02-2008
So, came here with three other interested wanna-be-salsa-dancers (a.k.a. friends) who love to dance so when they found out that this place offers a free 15 minute lesson (wednesday for sure, not sure about the other nights) and half-price cocktails between 5:30pm-7:30pm, they were there with bells on!!! Now, apart from the fact that we are talking about a jug of Margarita for £10.00 (yes, that's right - £10.00!!!) the free dance lesson goes for more like half an hour! So, it is definately value for money! The staff are friendly and welcoming (mostly anyway) but if they are not, just think about the half price cocktails! :-) Great place to try something different FOR FREE (did i mention that already?) and if you like it and want to keep learning it is only £8.00 for two more hours. The atmosphere is charged, with a little bit of pressure (from yourself that is) to be a really good salsa dancer - even if you are only a beginner! It's a lot of laughing, dancing (which, lets face it girls, is great for the figure right?) and feel-good music because it is all Latin American! Good place to take your friends, and even to meet that special someone as i think most of the guys are there for that very reason! ;-) Lots of room to dance, but if it's packed then that is restricted although the staff have worked that out too!! Good times to be had here people!
Walkabout (Temple) - Templo
Temple Underground Station Temple Place, Temple Place, London WC2R 2PH

So, we rocked up here Friday night after work. Party for four?? Yes please. There was no entry charge before 9pm and after then only £2 per person, with £2.00 drinks (can't remember what they were) all night too so you could say it was worth while trekking there. However, when we got int, there were no tables either. Fortunately for us, this place is filled with Aussie's (Australians), Saffa's (South Africans) and Kiwi's (New Zealanders) whom are quite friendly so it was very easy to ask some people if we could share their table, which they so nicely obliged. Not only were the patrons friendly (for London anyway), so were the staff. Exception of course for a very clumsy galss-boy who tried to carry too many glasses back hence ending up smashing glass all over our table. Other than that they were quite well equipped on how to provide customer service. This glass-boy not so much however, as it took us three times asking him if he can sweep up the broken glass in which another glass-boy ended up doing anyway. The meals were priced reasonably i thought, the portions, however, were quite small so therefore not equalling value for money. Tasted alright, for average pub-like food, which i'm not complaining about believe me :-). The dance floor is medium size but that really doesn't matter because everyone dancers anywhere in the pub due to the nice bouncers clearing away all the unused tables throughout the night therefore making more room. The music is top 40/pub tunes but sometimes the DJ gets a little confused and replays his songlist which is a little disappointing. Other than that no other complaints. A special mention is deserved here for the amount of toilet cubicles in the female toilets. Finally, a place where there is more than two or three toilets for 50 ladies, so no lining up is required!!! :-D SO, if a fun, dancing, pash-and-dash night is what you are after, head here for a few snakebites to warm up and you will definately achieve your aim!!!
Andrew Hunter I must admit. I do have a bit of a soft spot for the temple walkabout.... particularly if there is rugby on.

Although it is small, this place has character - if you can get in. It has three or four floors, the top one being where you dance. But don't let that fool you, the space of the floors is very restricted. Music is great, drink prices usual for soho (high) but the staff are quite friendly and fun. The other floors are varied lounge bars and it is a male prominent gay bar however they welcome females. Well we were welcomed when we went and there were quite a few other females there too. Average i would say and closes early.
Rush Bar - Soho

Rocked up to this place with a bunch of friends as my 'intro' to Lesbian bars in soho... Hmm. Few words should do this nicely... lets see... TINY. EXPENSIVE. Bearable MUSIC, and if you have a partner, don't bother as no one will talk to you because they are all looking for a snog. Reason? it's a MEAT MARKET. If you are looking to meet lesbians/Bi's for friendship/networking then don't go there however, if you are single, sexy and looking to pick up - this is the spot! If tearing up the floor is what you are seeking, try again. The dance floor (if you can call it that) is in the basement and is very small. The decor is old but the staff are friendly. The music has a steady 'up-beat' flow with now and then one you know coming on, not that it matters because you won't be able to show off your moves anyway for the lack of space. Couples - find somewhere else, singles bring your prettiest pout!

I attended a birthday dinner downstairs at this place and let me tell you, had a great time!!! Although it was a little hard to see because the front is a little hidden, the Marquarita's were superb, although very strong, and the waiting staff were very efficient. The food was delicious but i thought the serving size could have been a little bigger for the price i paid. Other than that it was a great night out! Everyone was very friendly and the atmosphere was charged!
