Zen China Restaurant - South Bank

We went to Zen China on a Saturday evening, restaurant was a little quiet. We were staying at the Park Plaza and this was a few minutes walk. Our table was on the raised level and we had fantastic views across Westminster Bridge. We ordered a few drinks, crispy duck, beef in oyster sauce and a chicken curry with steamed and egg fried rice. We were expecting a lot from the restaurant but have to say that it was over priced for the quality of the food. Interesting that previous reviews rate this as one of the best Chinese restaurants in London, I would have to say there are many that are better.

Thai Orchid - Maidenhead

This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants and I have been enjoying the food here for years. I have rated it as a 3 in comparison to the other more expensive London restaurants that I have reviewed, however this should not be seen as a negative. I love going to Thai Orchid if I want to eat locally, the food is always great and the staff are very friendly.

This is one of my favourite Indian restaurants and I have been enjoying the food here for years. It is your 'local' Indian if you are looking for a great meal without an expensive price tag, or grabbing a takeout. Do a great mixed grill and butter chicken and always love their lassi. Staff are really friendly and there is a nice atmosphere.

Great place!

As soon as you walk in the doorway and down the stairs you are already being enticed by the Arabic charm and being whisked away from London. Opening the doors you are hit with a light hint of shisha and the delightful Arabic music. The decor matches the whole Arabic feel and the tables are very close making it intimate. The belly dancers are a delight and really add to the whole experience.

We ordered from the menu to share as we wanted to sample the different dishes and we were not disappointed. Food really was good as were the cocktails. Finishing up with mint tea poured from a height!

Highly recommended and will be on our list to go again!

Plum Valley - Leicester Square

As said in one of the previous reviews the place is "dark and intimate" and this really adds to it's charm. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and the service was good. We ordered the mixed platter for two which was made up of satay chicken, dim sum, prawn toast (with a huge prawn on top!) spring rolls and calamari. Followed by crispy duck, chilli beef and mango, kung po chicken and rice. Food really was good and as we had ordered far too much (the starter was bigger than we expected) we ended up getting it packed for lunch!

The Medieval Banquet - Tower Hill

St. Katharines Way, London E1W 1UE

Went to the medieval banquet for a work Christmas party at £60 per head. Evening was lots of fun due to the people that went enjoying themselves and having a laugh. The serving "wenches" were great and really provided a good service, the entertainment was somewhat lacking with a few jugglers, mock fighting and dancing girls. It was freezing outside (-2 degrees) making the venue cold at the back of the seating areas and you could really feel your legs getting cold sitting there. The plates were absolutely freezing making the lukewarm food go cold as soon as it hit the plate. The food was atrocious, the soup starter was totally bland with only the bread making up for it. The fish starter was lukewarm and tasteless. The lemon sorbet was next to clear your palate, although having eaten very little I wasn't sure what the value was! Followed by bland, lukewarm breast of duck and vegetables that had been boiled to death. Finishing off with an edible cheesecake. The highlight of the meal would have to be the lemon sorbet, now what does that say!

In summary, if you are going with a fun lively crowd you will have a great time! If you hate the people you are going with ;-) or are going thinking it will be a culinary delight then stay at home!

Patara - Soho

Looking at the recent mixed reviews we were a little unsure, however we were not disappointed. Patara is a great restaurant, very lively and vibrant and even though it was full the staff were very attentive and the service was good. We decided on the dumplings; mixed rice rolls; chicken in basil; lamb in ginger; wok fried rice with egg; and finished off with chocolate pudding and ginger tea. The portions were a good size and all the food tasted great, you could really taste the freshness of the herbs in the rice rolls and the mains were just the right amount of chilli!

Koba Restaurant - Fitzrovia

Big fans of Asian food but never tried Korean, so after hunting around we found Koba. Walking in you could smell the spiced barbecue and I just knew it was going to be good! The waiter was very friendly and described the dishes in detail and we ordered beef in sweet soy sauce and wraps; mixed barbecue; and rice with chicken. The food was fantastic with the barbecue being cooked at the table was an added delight. We were tempted by the deserts and they were great even though the portions were large and hard to finish off!

In summary Koba is a must! I can see it turning into a regular place for us.

This place was recommended and we went with a group of friends on a Friday evening and had a great time. Probably a place I would usually have walked past and we would have missed out! Walking in it looked pretty cosy and we thought ok where are they seating 8 of us, after squeezing past a few tables we were led downstairs to a surprisingly open restaurant. Ordering was pretty mixed and I opted for the snails as a starter, lamb shank for main and creme brulee for desert. Snails I probably would't do again but that is due to personal taste, they were cooked in butter and were pretty good. The lamb was fantastic, rich in flavour and just melted in your mouth! Desert we shared, and really I should have had my own as we ended up spoon fighting for the last bits! Wine was flowing and the waiters were very good. Can't fault this place, great food, great service, will be visiting again!

Fantastic place!

We stayed in London over the weekend and fancied a big English on the Saturday morning! After searching on Qype we found this place and the reviews were good so we thought let's give it a try. We arrived around 10.30 and the place was packed! We were told very nicely that we would have to wait outside, there was a queue of around six in front if us. How had we missed them walking in! Waiting outside was nice as it was a crisp sunny morning and it wasn't long before we were given a very tight table. We ordered the full Monty and the half Monty and the portions were huge, only thing missing was a sausage and this was soon rectified. The place had an energetic buzz, and the staff were very friendly. When we left about an hour and a half later the queue was around 20!

Great place, highly recommended!
