Wellington Coffee - Edimburgo
Hanover Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 1EL

THE best scones in Edinburgh, without a doubt! And not just the usual variety: cranberry, apricot and blueberry too! The banana cake and carrot cakes are amazing too. The coffee is also the best in the city (and they do a good cup of tea too) and there's a great selection of affordable snacks. Stylish if bijou surroundings, great location and very friendly staff!

Porto & Fi have a great selection of cakes, breakfasts and some lovely main courses with quality, local produce.
It can be hit and miss. I've never known an experience to vary so much in the same establishment! The quality of service varies randomly (strangely not according to how busy it is) and so does the ambience/music and food.
It's not a place for leisurely dining - it's all about turnover of customers here. But it's a good place if you're passing through or live in the area.
It is child friendly - taking in the local customer demographic - but sometimes it can feel like you're eating in a creche and it's not relaxing at all!

This is the ultimate decadent tea drinking experience in Edinburgh! A small selection of wonderful homebaking delights and a vast selection of all kinds of tea (also available to take away) and the incredibly knowledgeable owner is extremely helpful in guiding you through this and recommending the right one. As I discovered to my surprise - citing breakfast tea tentatively as a guide of what I usually drink! My appreciate, knowledge and understanding of the different teas has increased vastly with two visits!
This is without doubt the ultimate cream tea in Edinburgh (and beyond) - homemade scones, jam and clotted cream served on the most delicate china and ornate cutlery. The silverware for the tea is also wonderful, and substantial! A real decadent, indulgent experience of the highest quality and best value! To be in the company of antiques, lovely french music and a friendly host tops it off wonderfully!
Run by someone passionate about tea for people just the same!

If your passion is tea and cakes this is an absolute must in Edinburgh. I ventured across town to check it out and after getting excited at the sight of pink teapots on the outside, I was rendered speechless in awe of the display of cakes facing me as you entered the cafe! Heaven? Oh yes!
There are few businesses that get it right - all of it, spot on and this is one of them!: the service, the choice, the generosity (portions of cakes and top ups of hot water), quality, and you can take a bit of the experience away with you whether that’s cake or teapots and aprons! They have thought of everything! (well, I’m just waiting on the cake and tea sampling evenings please?!).
The real show stealer is the tea cosies - their creator must lie awake at night thinking of new designs (we certainly came up with a few while we were there and I’m sure I dreamt of them that night!)- a multitude of colourful knitted loveliness adorning each table.
Wow! I’m smitten!

Coconut Lagoon Restaurant - Kenilworth

I had the best curry dish in my life in this restaurant - a sort of curry strew that was out of this world! Truly truly outstanding food. It has a great selection of dishes and drinks.
There is another restaurant in Stratford Upon Avon. I just had to have the same dish but it wasn’t quite as mind blowing as the one in Kenilworth but still amazing and very tasty!

This is a great, contemporary looking indian restaurant. My first experience was a great one - I celebrated a birthday here and the food was impressive, the service fantastic and they even brought out a cake and sang to me!
It was so good I took a friend back there who had a chicken dishes with pieces blatanty uncooked. Not wanting to cause a fuss, he ate what he cook and then told them at the end of the meal. In return for this discretion, the restaurant were less than discreet and brought the offending chicken back from the kitchen and attempted to demonstrate that cooked chicken was supposed to be life-threateningly dark pink, and decidedly raw. A real disappointment that took the edge off a wonderful birthday evening spent there.
The jury is out on this one - I’ve seen its potential but that is the worst reaction to a valid, and subtle complaint I could imagine, and made us feel uncomfortable and not in anyway reassured to return.
University Of Glasgow - Glasgow

I may be biased here but in my opinion it’s one of the best! Probably only the other ‘ancients’ in the UK could compete, not just for being older than the USA, but for the quality of education etc etc.
The main building is my favourite buildings in the UK and should be a must for any tourist visiting Glagow. You get a great view of much of the west end and the Clyde developments from the front of the building. The building itself, with its cloisters and quadrangles (although they still remind me of the sprint, armed with essay, to reach the faculty office before the last chime at midday!) and wonderful architecture is absolutely beautiful.
If you are so inclined you can climb the tight spiral staircase to the top of the tower. Fantastic panoramic views of the city but the stairs are no for the claustophobics out there!
The recently re-opened Hunterian museum in the building is also worth a visit. A perfect example of how to refurburbish a museum and make it ‘relevant’ for the 21st century, interesting and appealing without dumning down as the Kelvingrove museum seems to have spent £millions achieving.
De Hems Dutch Bar - Soho

This seems to be loved by the Dutch and by Londoners who love all things Dutch. I came here during the day and it was a friendly welcoming place, the Dutch snacks were wonderful and so was the fruit beer.

This is one of a great chain of hotels in the mid-price bracket. Central location, quality accomodation and a great breakfast!
Edwardian Grafton Hotel - Bloomsbury

This is a great hotel to stay in on a reasonable mid-budget. Being put up in London on a restricted work budget it was always a worry where I would end up for the money, but I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel. And indeed the chain of hotels as a whole - the Kenilworth Hotel is just the same quality.
