City Lit - Covent Garden

Keeley Street, Covent Garden, London WC2B 4BA

09-01-2008 (atualizado em 16-04-2009)

City Lit offers a massive range of courses- from Italian to Cookery to Latino Percussion- varying from one day to a year in length. Having completed my first term of french here, i recommend the excellent quality of teaching. Another bonus is that the college offers loads of concessions, with under 19s being able to enrol for up to 3 courses for free.

Much Ado About Nothing- National Theatre - Elephant and Castle

South Bank, London SE1 6JW

17-01-2008

I loved this adaption of Much Ado About Nothing. Hilarious (thanks to the fabulous Zoe Wanamaker) and really clear and easy to follow, it was true to the National's reputation for putting on fantastic plays. The set was also great, with a real swimming pool!

St Martin in the Fields - Charing Cross

Trafalgar Square, London WC2N 5DU

17-01-2008

I saw someone i know play here. Surrounded by candel light, fantastic music and the beautiful architecture of this church the evening was really magical. Go as soon as you can!

The Old Red Lion - Islington

418 St. John Street, Islington, London EC1V 4NJ

17-01-2008

I recently saw a play here about Patrick Kavangh called 'On Raglan Road'. The play was good, as was the pub. The theatre is situated upstairs and feels like a fringe theatre should- intimate and friendly. Intimate is a good word to use- the tiny space was so packed out that i was practically sitting on my neighbours lap! However one should take this as a good reflection of the theatre and its productions.

parkland walk - Finsbury Park

Oxford Road, Stroud Green, London N4 3EY

17-01-2008

I often run here as its a good distance (Finsbury Park to Highgate Hill) and is far more interesting and beautiful than the monotony of a treadmill. The walk is also popular for strolling and dog walking. A word of warning however- NEVER go here at night. Its notorious for trouble and is littered with condoms and the occasional needle. I'd also recommend going running with someone else, just for peace of mind.

moonrising You should try the Cranley Gardens to Ally Pally stretch... Didn't notice the nasties on the first stretch, but agree that it wouldn't be a good place to go in the dark.

National Portrait Gallery - Charing Cross

2 Saint Martin's Pl, London WC2H 0HE

17-01-2008

If heavy, brow knitting art isn't your thing then i suggest you pay the National Portrait gallery a visit. With photos of well-known faces comprising the permanent exhibition, it feels slightly less high brow and more like flicking through a magazine. Of course the art itself is by no means discredited; the photographic awards which i saw here (£1 entry) were quirky, well-shot and absorbing.

Hampstead Heath Bathing Ponds - Hampstead

Millfield Lane, Hampstead Heath, London N6 6JL

17-01-2008

The Ladies bathing pond is one of those places that makes you feel as though you are in a remote part of the countryside- not London. I like the womens only pond best as it has a far more tranquil vibe than the mixed ponds- upheld by grouchy women telling you off if you talk too loudly or answer your mobile. But fair enough i say, as the pros of adhering to the rules definately outweigh the cons.

Brick Lane - Bethnal Green

Brick Lane, Hanbury street, London E1 6SB

17-01-2008

Brick Lane is one of the places i love most in London and undeniably one of the biggest cultural hotspots. Known as a big asian area, the Lane is populated with loads of yummy Indian restaurants, sari shops and Indian sweet shops. Its become really 'hip' recently- meaning that in contrast theres also loads of fashionable vintage shops and clubs. There's a Brick Lane festival which i think takes place in September and a market every sunday too.

Tate Modern - Southwark

Bankside, Southwark, London SE1 9TG

17-01-2008

Tate Modern exhibitions promise to be fascinating and unique. Amongst all of the artists i've seen here, the Frida Khalo exhibition was definately my favourite. Installations in the Turbine Hall are equally groundbreaking- with previous work including massive slides, an all-encomposing sunset and a gigantic spider. The position of the gallery makes it even better- right in the heart of London.

Little Venice - Pequena Veneza

Maida Vale, London W2 1TH

17-01-2008

Little Venice, as other reviews will tell you, is made up of loads of little Canal boats all bunched together in Maida Vale. One of my favourite things to do in London is walk this route starting from Little v. and continuing all the way along the canal, through Regents Park Zoo, on to Camden and finally ending up in Angel. A really interesting alternative to seeing London.
