Berwick Street Market - Soho
Berwick Street, Soho, London W1F 8ST
02-11-2007
(atualizado em 13-11-2007)
This street is just off Tottenham Court Road and is a great place to get your sewing supplies. There's lots to choose from so it's a good idea to shop around - however specific you are about your fabric you're bound to find it eventually. There are also shops which specialise in more unusual fabrics such as ones for costumes and highly decorative clothing e.g. 100% sequins..! If you're looking for more 'normal' fabrics this is also a good place to come because you'll probably find it's cheaper than somewhere like John Lewis.
Westminster Abbey Coffee Club - Westminster
In front of Westminster Abbey, Broad Sanctuary, London SW1P 3PA

Yes this place is designed for tourists but it's great for Londoners too! They sell hot and cold drinks as well as snacks and sandwiches. The
Bar Centrale - Bloomsbury
4 Bernard Street, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 1HX
13-11-2007
Don't be fooled by the odd choice of name - this is actually an Italian cafe! Small and cosy, they serve a wide variety of homemade paninis, sandwiches, cakes and soup for ~£3.50 to take away or eat in. My personal favourite is the avocado, mozarella and sundried tomato ciabatta. Hot and cold drinks are also available. Service can be slow because it is so popular at lunch time but the staff are friendly and it is conviently located in between Russell Sq tube station and Russell Sq itself. Bon Appetit!
Greenwich Market - Greenwich
Nelson Road, Greenwich, London SE10 9JA
10-11-2007
This weekend market is great for gifts - the many stores offer a variety of products, most of which are one-offs. There are also some food and drinks stores and a few cafes/shops around the market which open during the week too. Come here for anything from nougat to clothes, badges and antiques!
The Wellcome Trust - Bloomsbury
183 Euston Road, London NW1 2BE
09-11-2007
The Wellcome Trust is actually a charity which funds research into human and animal health. In June 2007 they opened a new exhibition venue called The Wellcome Collection which now holds both permanent and temporary exhibitions which aim to break the boundaries between science and art. Perhaps because it is new not many people know about it but I really do recommend a visit. Their permanent exhibitions include 'Medicine Man' and 'Medicine Now' and there will soon be a new exhibition 'Sleeping and Dreaming' as of 29th Nov. I was actually lucky enough to see some live heart surgery (nope, not joking!) there at the beginning of November. This is the second time they've done this so keep an eye out on their website if you're interested in that kind of thing! The best bit is it's all free.
The Ivy House - Holborn
8-10 Southampton Row, Holborn, London WC1B 4AE
09-11-2007
Right opposite Holborn station, this pub is like no other I've seen before; the ground floor is indeed a pub but upstairs is a Thai Restaurant! Having only been for the Thai I can't talk about the drinks but the restaurant is pretty good. Nothing amazing but you can get a meal e.g. Pad Thai for about £6-7. Service can be a little slow so make sure you're not in a rush but the staff are friendly and the atmosphere cosy and relaxed. Or at least more relaxed than the busy Southampton Row you can see while you eat! Nice place for a proper lunch if you're bored with cafe-type food.
Four Seasons - Leicester Square
12 Gerrard Street, China Town, London W1D 5PR
09-11-2007
Four Seasons call themselves 'roast duck specialists' and not for nothing! This is their new branch (the one other branch is in Queensway) and is already very popular. Their dishes can be quite pricey compared to the average in China Town (around £8 each) but there are less expensive rice dishes e.g. rice + a good helping of delicious roast duck is = £4.90. So with tea and service charge you can get a very decent meal for about £6. Expect to pay more if you want to try out the more flamboyant dishes though.
The Brunswick Shopping Centre - Bloomsbury
1 The Brunswick, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 1BS
06-11-2007
Although one of the much lesser known areas for shopping, the Brunswick is very popular with those who know of it. It offers quite a few of the more high-end of the high street shops such as Benetton, Hobbs, Joy and French Connection but also New Look and Office.
There are also many restaurants such as Yo Sushi and Carluccio's but also lots of places where you can grab a quick bite like Crussh and Starbucks.
And even if you're not looking to spend money it's a nice and airy place to have a walk around - after it's £24million renovation one could scarcely believe that the original site is actually 40 years old and grade II listed.
Russell Square - Bloomsbury
Russell Square, Bloomsbury, London WC1B 4JP
06-11-2007
A really nice place to enjoy your lunch - the square is surrounded by busy roads but is actually a little spot of rare calm right in the middle of London. There is a fountain in the middle with benches running round it and a little cafe on one of the sides. There are lots of other small and cosy cafes nearby too as well as the Brunswick for restaurants and shopping, and of course the British Museum is just a stone's throw away.
There's your whole Sunday planned for you!
Ed's Easy Diner - Soho
Trocadero Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1D 6NA
03-11-2007
This American-style diner complete with working jukebox is a good place to come for dessert - especially for those of you with a sweet tooth! They do very good (and uber sweet) milkshakes for £3.10 which are suitable for two as well as a selection of puddings; the pecan pie and apple pie (both £3.65) are especially divine! Be warned, their tagline is "Eat here once and you'll always return"!
(They also offer hamburgers and hotdogs which I haven't tried but I think they would be pretty standard- don't take my word though!)
