Tiny micro brewery which produces really, really nice continental style craft beers like Pilsners, Belgian and Bavarian style wheat beers (my favourite is the Chocolate Wheat Beer)
At the moment you can only buy the bottled beer in a few venues in Cardiff (see their website) and in a few festivals, but I believe this about to change and will soon be available in shops.
They also hold regular MicroBEER Festivals in the yard outside now and again, so sing up for their e-mails.

Massive pub with loads of nooks and crannies. Great choice of real ale (4 when I visited, but there were two empty casks behind bar). Friendly staff

Really nice home made food and very reasonably priced. Good choice for vegetarians as well. Friendly staff. The place has a nice vibe.

Amazing choice of unusual ice cream flavors - I went for a double cone of Sherry Trifle and Wild Strawberry flavors. There were also nice looking cakes. Friendly staff.

Fronifor is a converted house which has 3 self contained flats. We stayed at the smallest (Eluned) which is ideal for two. It has all the appliances needed and is tastefully furnished. It’s very close to the beach and the pub - what else do you need.
The people who manage the property are very friendly and helpful.

Unlike a lot of pubs in the area who only stock John Smiths or Worthington’s, The Capel have 3-4 different real ales from small breweries on the pumps at any one time, which are changed regularly. The inside of the pub is very old fashioned with original timber and stained glass. The pub holds it’s own 4-day beer & cider festival on Mayday weekend, and a few yards behind the pub down Angel Lane is Gilfach train station (request stop), which is on the Cardiff-Rhymney line.

My wife’s grandad likes this place and so we visit now and again. Although the setting is nice and the building has character, the food is not that great. Although at three courses for £12, I shouldn’t complain too much.
Ludlow Food Centre - Ludlow

I’d passed the place many times as it’s next to the busy A49 and recently decided to have a look.
It’s in an attractive building and although it’s not as big as your average supermarket it has a wide range of goods with the emphasis being mainly on local food as opposed to organic (with is no thing IMHO). Although I expected it to be pricey, it’s not too bad - I had a loaf (baked on the premises) for just over a £1.
My wife went for English wine, a red from Sussex and a White for Hereford (Frome Vineyard - nice), and I was spoilt for choice with all the different bottled ales and cider/perry. I’d say there were beer from around 7-8 different breweries, and all local.
City Arms - Cardiff

A Brains pub which gets very popular when there’s a match on at the stadium as it’s so close. It also gets packed on a weekend evenings as there’s a (ahem) 'disco’ on one side.
The other side is more of a lounge area and has lots of photo’s of Cardiff’s past.
Although it’s bang in the city centre, drinks are a tad expensive for an old fashioned pub IMHO.
