Oooh where do I begin?

I took my beloved (old shape) Mini to these people to get a reconditioned gearbox fitted. I had already been told by a trusted mechanic (who was too busy to do the work) that the job should cost around £650 to £750 plus vat. After Bay 3 had inspected my car they told me over the phone that the work would indeed cost £650 to £750. Imagine my suprise when I was rung by them a week later and told that the work was complete and that it was going to cost £1333!!!!

We are now in dispute - the manager is completely unreasonable and refuses to acknowledge the original price saying that he was just refering to the cost of the gearbox alone

And it looks like its going to court.

In the meantime I had to pay the £1333 (money I had not got), they refused to alow me to take my car away until the cheque cleared - even though they had no alternate means of paying, and they have been holding my car for two weeks now claiming that my check (the money left my account a week ago) has not gone into their account.

Would I reccomend them ?
