CASCADE Mini Cabs 020 8542 3000 - Wimbledon

London SW19 7DE

24-10-2009

This is a fantastic cab company. I've lived about a kilometer from their base for the last 3 or 4 years and they nearly always have plenty of cabs available, are invariably with you in minutes, charge reasonable rates and deliver a friendly service.

On one occasion I even got contacted by their base after a friend left her purse in the back seat and they had it delivered back within minutes. Good stuff!!

Not much more you can ask from a cab firm

Pidou Superstores - Calais

190 Rue Marcel Dassault, 62100 Calais

31-08-2009

If you’re travelling to France for booze then this place has everything you’ll ever need. It is a very short drive from the Calais ferry port so if you’re against the clock for your trip it can be over & done with in next to no time at all.
There is wine galore of all varieties as you have about 10 supermarket sized aisles dedicated to booze. I managed to pick up a 30 pack of quality Saint Omer dumpy beers for just £5.50 (Thats about 18p per bottle). Bargain. All spirits etc can be picked up here at a saving of around a few pounds per bottle against British prices.
In tough times where the value of the pound is levelling out with the Euro it is good to know you can still get value for your money from your booze cruise!!

Al Forno Restaurant - Wimbledon

2a King's Road, Wimbledon, London SW19 8QN

31-08-2009

Al forno is the best place to eat in Wimbledon. Simple as that. Located just off the middle of Wimbledon Broadway (near the theatre). This intimate restaurant simply buzzes with activity. The waitors are vibrant and friendly and will ensure whatever occasion you may be celebrating will be rewarded with good service (and often a shooter on the house if your in party mood!!).
The steak here is brilliant, the pizza’s are amazing (be warned - the medium size alone is enough to feed 2) and the food has been amazing every time I have eaten here.

Hooden On The Green - Mitcham

350 London Road, London CR4 3ND

04-08-2009

I have only ever been to this pub once …. it was actually piping up to be a pretty good night of karaoke, darts and large outside smoking area before a 20 man fight broke out.
Not somewhere to take the girlfriend - this place is definitely more for the locals

Water World - Lloret de Mar

Ctra Vidreres Km 1,2 17310 LLORET DE MAR, Lloret de Mar

04-08-2009

Based around 50 miles east of Barcelona Water World Lloret is one of the better water parks in the area. It has a large range of slides, some solo, some double-rafts and some 4 person + dingy’s. It also has the unusual perk of a slide that goes from the very top of the park to the bottom (made up of 5 sections) that make getting from the steep top of the park to the other end very amusing. There is also a double goldfish bowl styl ride that ends with you being dunked backwards into the water.
A couple of lazier pools and lagoons for the not so adventurous with a few more laidback slides to keep everyone happy. There is also a 16 hole mini-golf course at the top of the steep park. You can get tickets for this along with lockers and loungers at the front of the park (cost around 5 euros for all 3). Entry to the park is 24 euros - the same price as the Port Aventura Caribe Aquatic park, although given the choice of the 2 I would opt for this park every day of the week

AQUA DOME - Tirol Therme Längenfeld - Längenfeld

Oberlängenfeld 140, 6444 Längenfeld

28-07-2009

A day at the aqua dome in Langenfeld Austria has surely got to down as one of the most pampered I’ve ever felt. Open all year round and located in the austrian alps, the hot springs of Langenfeld seems unreal as you lounge in futuristic looking bowls of oddly warm water in such an isolated destination. It is family friendly with a specific kiddies pool with water slides, while the dome also offers a lazy river, salt water lagoons and in pool jacuzzi’s. A full day costs around 24 euros
For an extra 10 euros you have access to the adult only sauna areas with several sauna’s and steam rooms (all massive and catering to different heats), an ice room, plunge pool and also an indoor waterfall that runs hot, cold or misty at the touch of a button.
Upon entering the dome you have a high-tech stone watch like thing attached to your arm and anyfurther things you decide to pay for in your time there are charged to this. This included the food (which was reasonably pricey for what it was but obviously not the main speciality of the dome), but manicures, pedicures, massages etc were all available at reasonable prices should you wish to have a treatment.
The service in this place was impeccable and I left feeling positively brilliant. Highly reccommended to all - the aquadome has it’s own hotel or the nearby camping site of otztal langenfeld to stay at

L'Aquarium Barcelona - Ciutat Vella

Moll d'Espanya del Port Vell, Métro : L3 Drassanes ou L4 Barcelonesa, 08039 Barcelona

27-06-2009

A good standard aquarium with a good array of fish and a massive underwater tunnel complete with travellator to move you around. If you’re not a fan of sea-life and have not enjoyed aquariums before then it doesn’t really hold anything new to wow you … except maybe the Penguins - I never realised just how amazing they are until I saw them swimming underwater. Incredibly fast!!

No flash photography is allowed (although that didn’t seem to stop most people) and the tickets were around 15€

Disaster Café - Lloret de Mar

Lloret de Mar

27-06-2009

A perculiar attration to lloret De Mar in Costa Brava, Spain, where you get to feel the full force of a simulated Earthquake. Worth checking out if you are in the area

La Nonna - Wimbledon

213-217 The Broadway, Wimbledon, London SW19 1NL

31-01-2009

I’ve eaten here on a few different occasions now and the restaurant itself is very well presented and does generate a warm environent to enjoy your food. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food has always been of a good quality, if sometimes pricey with most main courses costing close to £20 (not including pizzas).
I went with a group of 12 people on one occasion and also as part of a couple on another, I found the service was consistently good regardless of group size.

Tandem Shopping Centre - Colliers Wood

Christchurch Road, Merton, London SW19 2NX

31-01-2009

A modern style new retail park in Colliers Wood with a variety of shops and food outlets. It is a 5 minute walk from Colliers Wood underground (northern line) and is also served by the 152 and 200 route buses (or a short walk from 57, 131 and 219 buses) as well as having plenty of parking spaces.
Shops include Argos, TK Maxx, JJB Sports, Next, WHSmiths, Sportsworld, Boots, Game, Holiday Hypermarket, Jessops and is a across the road from PC World, Curry’s, Harveys and the massive Sainsbury’s savacentre(which also includes a Mark&Sparks and many more nearby parking spaces)
There is also a Harry Ramsdens, Nandos and a Starbucks so there are places to have a break and get some food in the middle of all the shopping, or a Coral if you fancy placing a quick bet
