Footopia-IST FLOOR PETER JONES - Chelsea
Sloane Square, London SW1W 8EL
11-03-2008
Today I poped for a quick treat in Peter Jones at the Benefits Counter. I actually have a lot of their products and the store not being too busy,The assistant offered to give me a facial-an offer which I took up. Anyway the treatment was quick and very nice- I got to use their lemon balm treatment for red eyes.I hear its really good. I have bought it and look forward to using it.
Freud Bar Cafe & Gallery - Soho
198 Shaftesbury Avenue, Covent Garden, London WC2H 8JL
06-03-2008
Perhaps one of the best bars in London when it opened, but now with the explosion in amazing venues Freud is still managing to hold its own. The mojitos are perhaps the best i’ve tasted, but be sure to try the Aztec too for a real firey chocolate treat. Love the decor, layout and the fact its still a hidden gem. Oh, and food is good too.
Marquess of Angelsey - Covent Garden
39 Bow Street, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5HF
09-11-2007
THE MARQUESS OF ANGELSEY located in Bow is spread over two floors and very recently has undergone a long needed refurbishment. For a long while it has been a quality traditional pub that always dished out great food, drinks and service.
Conveniently located on the corner of Bow Street and Russell Street, close to many theatres it is a perfect magnet to attract theatre audiences to their bar and dining quarters upstairs, and this venue looks very impressive and tastes even better.
We warmed up with a bottle of White French wine and Prosecco:-tasty platter of nibbles consisting of a very generous helping of Salt and Pepper Squid dish served with a lightly barely there crumbs. It was a welcome change from the heavy variety you often find in pubs who don't spend a lot of time on food preparation. The house's thick handcut chips made from fresh Potato were perfect for scooping up the Tomato and Mayonnaise Dips whilst downing pints of Young's finest Ales- a Peroni or a Leffe.
But if you have panchant for White Wine we really truley recommend the Terramater Vineyard Reserve Sauvignon Blanc from Chile-it was so good we did not stop at the one bottle.
The Rib-Eye Steak came in a good size and was grilled exactly the way I like it accompanied by a delicious, aromatic Pepper sauce. The Fish-Cakes and Beef-Burgers got an A plus. For the dessert the four of us rated the Apple Crumble as very high because the combination more Apple and less crumble tasted good as did the Chocolate Brownie which was rich and delicious.
Masala Zone Restaurant - Covent Garden
48 Floral Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DA
09-11-2007
Situated just behind the Royal Opera House in a room thought to have been used by the company for storing costumes and where Pablo Picasso may have once painted a set used in a play, Masala Zone now makes and delivers a lot of real hot comforting Indian food to the residents of Covent Garden.
At Masala Zone the cuisine is not limited to boring traditional dishes like Prawn,Lamb or Chicken cooked in a hurried takeaway style, but offers more interesting and healthier varieties that depict changing trends in Indian restaurant cookery. As more and more young British Asians tend to eat out their palates have become more discerning and eating habits in Great Britain tend to reflect that.
The menu is split between street food and the well balanced Thali Meal. Either way the high quality of ingredients used in the preparation of the dishes is very indicative of the more affulent taste of Britain.
After perusing the Masala Zone menu over a thick Mango Lassi and a juicy Mango Bellini we began with a vegetarian and warm meat grazing platters of street food. This came with a delicious Bhel-crunchy salad with crushed peanuts,Sev Puri,Chutney,Dhai Puri. For the carnivores in us there were the minced Lamb patties stuffed with herbs, steaming hot Chicken Samosas and minced Lamb Kebabs.
The flavours were light, fresh and balanced by a cooling yoghurt which was made with tempering spice. Indian food does not have to be Chilli hot to be tasty.
The Thali offers a choice of 12 curries all accompanied by Poppadums,Chutneys,Dhal,Rice and vegetarian dishes of the day.
Not particularly adventurous with fiery cuisines I opted for the mildly spiced Prawn Malai flavoured with Coconut while my partner chose the spicer Lamb Rogan Josh. Both dishes were accompanied by a superb Pumpkin and Aubergine side dish, as well as a helping of perfectly cooked Basmati rice.
Elemis Day-Spa Mayfair - Mayfair
2-3 Lancashire Court, London W1S 1EX
09-11-2007
ELEMIS products are highly popular in many Spas around Great Britain. The Elemis Motto is "defined by nature led by Science" and the treatment bumpf includes numerous assurances backed by Scientific surveys that none of their products were tested on animals.
Many of their body treatments are inspired by world beauty therapies-the Balinese Boreh Hot Spice Ritual at a 160.00 for 2 hours included a hot spicey therapy,a well-being massage and an enriching milk bath.
They have manicures, pedicures, massages and stone therapies for people who like to have regular treatments for optimum maintenance.
I loved the Visible Brilliance Facial costing 115 pounds, which was least stressful and most indulgent. With that was included a hand and arm massage,a gentle scalp-massage,which not only did wonders for my stiff muscles but smelt fabulous.
Body Experience - Richmond
50 Hill Rise, London TW10 6UB
09-11-2007
Situated in a very scenic part of Richmond, neatly wedged inbetween the designer boutiques Body Experience's glass fronted exterior did not prepare me for the exquisite treatment rooms concealed within this upmarket Spa. The Spa is the epitome of luxury right down its fluffy soft bathrobes and pleasent aromas escaping into the corridors of the building.
They offer some of the best facial treatments ranging from Thalgo,Li Tiya,Elemis,Shishedio and La Therapie. For a complete body overhaul I booked in for one of their tailored to your needs experience called The Dreaming which consisted of everything from a mud-wrap to a head massage and cost 225.00 pounds. Having undergone the treatment it left me feeling like a different person. All the products used in the delivery of the treatment can be bought from their shop on the lower ground floor.
There is also a seperate floor for express treatments such as eyebrow shaping at 15 pounds. If however you wish to work up a sweat before treating yourself then book a personal training session at the studio at the back of the Spa at 600 pounds for 10 sessions. There is more good news to follow, in 2008 the owners are going to be trialing a Life-style Clinic which will specialise in non-invasive treatments like Endermologie at 65 pounds for 35 minutes.
The Sanctuary - Covent Garden
12 Floral Street, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DH
09-11-2007
THE SANCTUARY is one of the best places to go for facials and body treatments as it has a very de-stressing environment, in the heart of Covent Garden. Complete with Spa Pools,Steam Rooms,Swimming Pools it is aesthetically appealing and very sybaritic. The relaxing lounge which is set around a KOI CARP Pond with a food and drinks bar is the main feature of the Spa. The prices are kept high so that they don't attract a rowdy and noisy crowd to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the establishment.
The Sanctuary has an extensive body and facial treatment list that runs from straightforward body maintenance to indulgent all over body treatments with a variety of international inspirations.
These days it is more well know for its bathing and shower products which retail in all major retailers like Boots and Superdrug.
I sampled the LomiLomi treatment which was 90.00 pounds and consisted of an 85 minute body treatment including full exfoliation, massage, moisturising and a hotstone massage which was most enjoyable on the shoulders and the neck. I came out smelling very nice and the effect lasted for ages. The all female staff have a soothing and competent manner without the snobbery of many establishments that I have visited.
Noel Coward Theatre - Covent Garden
85-88 St. Martins Lane, London WC2N 4AU

The American Cult Show,Avenue Q has been a huge success since it was launched in London a year ago. Night after night it has been playing to packed theatre audiences and the standing ovations seem to get longer and longer.
The Show which is set in a mythical NYC Block depicts the day to day life of an endearing oddball collection of people who live there. Characters like Kooky,Christmas Eve,hapless hubby Brian and the puppets: Sloppy Nicky,Closeted Rod,Lost Princeton,Lovelorn Kate,Porn-happy Trekkie,Monster and bimbo-licious Lucy the Slut have proved to be so addictive that Londoners cannot seem to get enough of them.
They seem to swear like troopers, engage in kinky puppet coitus and even impart valueable and absurd life lessons. These folks wouldn't be at home in a place like Sesame Street-their brand of humour is so outrageous they wouldn't be welcome on Sesame Street.
I think that to appreciate it you would need to go and see the show because to just call it a puppet show would be a disservice. Having seen the show and amazed by its popularity there is no right or wrong way to describe it other than Avenue Q is the furriest and the funniest show this side of the Atlantic Ocean you are ever likely to see. Don't miss it.
