L'Auberge Saint Aignan - Sancoins

Saint-Aignan-des-Noyers, Sancoins

22-08-2010

This tasty little Auberge is located en-route to Sancoins in a small village called Saint-Aignan-des-Noyers. Very lively and usually full on a Friday night. It's quite an intimate restaurant with only one waitress and the chefs serving some of the food and making sure everything is satisfactory. The menu concludes of a few starters, mains and desert which are produced on a blackboard instead of a full menu. The food is satisfying, although the chefs do like to use a lot of olive oil and salt! Very French, very quaint and very simple, perfect for the small town in which it is situated.

Bar Tabac - Bannegon

Bannegon, Bannegon

22-08-2010

This is the only bar/restaurant in the small sleepy town of Bannegon. It's simple French cooking is perfect for an afternoon meal. They have one set menu and that's it, so choice is pretty limited. This is definitely a locals only bar, so you get to me meet some interesting people from the farms near by. Great for a cold beer on a hot day and for bringing a little bit of liveliness to Bannegon.

Novotel Ury Fontainebleau - Ury

Route nationale 152, 77760 Ury

16-08-2010

I'm a big fan of Novotels in general, they're always comfortable, clean and great value for money. I am currently staying in the Ury Novotel branch located just outside of Fontainebleau and the free wifi is going down nicely. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of a beautiful Forest with great walking and cycling opportunities. The bar is well stocked and this is a great place to stop while traveling through France.

Ampers Taylor The interesting part of this is the free wi-fi as this costs a fortune in Europe for a Brit. Thanks for the hint, I will now try and find out of that facility is available in all Novotel hotels and if so, you have made a convert!

YUSU - The Courtyard - York

Langwith College, University of York Campus, York, North Yorkshire YO10 5DS

13-08-2010

The Courtyard is the main Student Union of York University. Situated in the centre of Campus it's always tempting for a quick drink after lectures. There is a sitting area at the front of the venue which is perfect for the summer seasons and also the winter, complete with overhead heaters. The inside décor is modern and sleek that fits the student scene well. There are 2 sitting areas inside which is needed since this place is usually packed with drink seeking and food needing students! The food served is tasty but the price definitely stretches the student budget. Drink prices are pretty similar, but if you catch one of the weekly deals such as "pound a pint" on Fridays it's not too bad. The Courtyard also holds some of the main YUSU events during freshers week such as the stock market party and access all areas which are a great laugh. They also hold many other events during the rest of the year including being the starting point of many of the YUSU socials. When main events are being held the room adjacent to the sitting area is opened revealing a massive spacious hall with a large stage and bar. The Courtyard really is the perfect Student Union that York University can be proud of. Being central creates a great social feel and is the perfect venue to catch up with your friends, many good memories have been had here and I can predicted many more are on there way!

Mulligans Bar - Palma de Mallorca

Calle de la Punta Ballena 22, Calvia, magaluf, Palma de Mallorca

12-08-2010

Grungy, dark indie bar, full of the best memories I have of Magaluf. This is by far one of the best venues on this part of the island. It calls itself a "the grunge" bar and it's not afraid to show it! A local cover band plays every night between 9pm and 10pm and then again at 12am to 1am. The bar is pretty quiet in between these times so it's good to sit down and get to know some people and be able to hear what your saying for an hour or so. From 1am onwards a Dj takes requests and plays some half decent main stream indie music. The bar is located upstairs and you can sit on the window ledge and chill with a drink for five until you have your dancing feet back again. The bar and club is all made of wood and had dark lighting to give it that extra edgy feel. They pride themselves on serving extra lashings of Jack Daniels and tequila shots with every beer, there are no WKD's or pretty little cocktails to be found here. A great bar to start and finish your night, delivers every time.

BCM Disco Empire - Palma de Mallorca

Avenida s'Olivera s/n, 07181 Palma de Mallorca

12-08-2010

BCM is one of the most "bigged up" clubs known to man. Magaluf is full of bars and clubs which gives the island a neon buzz that never sleeps. I have to say, I wasn't the biggest fan. BCM is the largest club in Magaluf and it even has it's own square - BCM square, shocker. The club has 2 platforms, to get to either you have to walk over or under a man made waterfall that will usually be occupied by an intoxicated person floating unconsciously while security rush around to fish him out. The 1st floor is the main dance floor area complete with half naked dancing girls in cages and 4 long bars stretching out across the venue. Service is fast, but expensive. The club doesn't take money, oh no, when you get inside you have to exchange your money for small gold coins. The reasoning behind this is that the bar staff don't have to deal with the tricky method of giving change. 1 gold coin is with 2 Euro, and drinks are usually around the 4 gold coin mark. Also the upstairs area is used for popcorn parties and foam parties, all of which we missed!

The second tier which costs more to get into again holds some of the live shows, these aren't just any shows, they hold live sex shows. Not to everyone's taste, including mine, I didn't stick around to see what happened next. In this area they also hold the water party which consists of flooding the whole dance floor and being able to paddle and splash around with your mates, or to be groped by some 40 year old while trying to pull you under the water, not my idea of fun.

BCM didn't hold many great a memory for me as some of the other smaller clubs did. Is it possible that it was just too big? Never the less many people are impressed by the extravagant club so it deserves some credit....I guess.

The Charter Club - Blaengarw

Chruch Street, Bridgend, Wales CF32 8BA

12-08-2010

An interesting place to say the least. There isn't much going on in Blaengarw and this is probably the highlight of their week. I haven't been here for nearly 4 years now, so I'm a little out of touch with the place. Definitely a "locals" only sort of pub, everyone knows everyone and that's what makes it..sort of okay? Maybe. But the cheap alcohol and ridiculous music followed by some sort of a light show makes you feel like your at a school disco. Never the less when I was much younger I had some of the best nights at the time in this pub/club of the Garw Valley. But now, I would never be caught dead anywhere near the place. It's definitely for the young who haven't experienced real clubs or bars yet or the true locals which can't see past the mountains of Blaengarw.

Red Dragon Centre - Cardiff

Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, Wales CF10 4DJ

12-08-2010

This entertainment Centre situated a stones throw away from the main Cardiff Bay area is great to keep you occupied for a few hours on a miserable day. The Odeon Cinema has recently added the luxury of an Imax experience theatre offering great quality and another dimension of watching films. The Centre also offers the opportunity to visit the Dr.Who exhibition and get a little more info on how the hit TV programme is made. Hollywood bowl is also another popular attraction this Centre holds with great offers on birthday party deals and family days out. This venue also holds a series of chain restaurants including Chinese, Italian, Indian and a trendy bar the entrance. There used to be a popular nightclub here called Evolution or to the locals "Evo". I think it's still open on certain nights but I'm not 100% sure since more popular venues were opened in Cardiff Central such as Oceana. The centre is well sign posted and easy to find and parking is free if you use the cinema or bowling venue. A great day out for family and friends!

BA Orient - Cardiff

Unit 27 Mermaid Quay, Cardiff, Wales CF10 5BZ

29-04-2008 (atualizado em 12-08-2010)

If your young, fabulous and work in the bay I’m sure one of your colleagues have taken you out for an expensive lunch at Ba Orient. The portions of food are perfect and delicious being in the dim sum dumpling style. The interior is sleek modern and professional and the wine list will have you captivated for hours. Anyone who is anyone in Cardiff Bay must be seen here at least once to ensure their social status remains firm. This place is also perfect for a quick cocktail after a meal in the bay, the lighting is delicate and makes everything seem very easy and cool. I have just read some of the other reviews, and am quite shocked to see some people have labelled this place as "tacky". I assure you it is far from it and holds a very high reputation amongst the locals. The staff and bar tenders were also very friendly and pleasant the last time I went, but it was pretty quiet being a week night.

Pethau Bychain - Cardiff

Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, Wales CF10 5BW

12-08-2010

Pethau Bychain translated means "small things". It's nice to see shops with Welsh names within Wales from time to time, it reminds us where we are. This shop sells small items for all around the house, from candle stick holders to fake flowers and even the not so small items such as sofas. It's a great shop to buy a present for someone especially a house warming gift, but that's where it ends really. The quality doesn't go far enough to go the full whack and buy a sofa. Very popular with nan's and granddads though, there's always an excuse for them to go and buy a little something extra for the house!
