La Fromagerie - Highbury

30 Highbury Park, Highbury, London N5 2AA

21-11-2009

La fromagerie does have an amazing selection of cheeses but it seems you have to have some knowledge of cheese to get anywhere. The person serving me was very helpful offering samples and giving helpful tips he did however advise me to gain cheese knowledge via the net or books and to sample varieties of cheese at markets.

The ambience is a little too intimate and pretentious could do with bigger premises.

As said before it is not cheap so be prepared to send a good £30 upwards..Will I be returning? maybe when I have a better knowledge of all things cheese.

Il Bacio Mare - Stoke Newington

61 Church Street, Stoke Newington, London N16 0AR

31-05-2009

I went to here this weekend on a whim. I have been past many times but decided to give it a try this time.

The food is very well prepared. I had a starter of garlic bread which was the size of a pizza as opposed to the normal baguette. I had a chicken dish which was very good and filling.

The restaurant itself feels Italian. I actually felt as if I was on holiday.

The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the food they were serving. They also knew a lot about the wine.

I will be going back and I would highly recommend it.

City Lit - Covent Garden

Keeley Street, Covent Garden, London WC2B 4BA

27-07-2008 (atualizado em 16-04-2009)

City Lit is a great palce to study, the building is bright, clean and modern with a spacious cafe, however it can be hard to sit down to anything substantial as there are always queues.
The Enrolment staff are very helpful and I have studied French there,I also started Art History but the teacher was so boring, if I had stayed she would’ve killed any love I had for Art!
Enrol early this is a popular place.

Tollington - Holloway

115 Hornsey Road, Holloway, London N7 6DN

25-03-2009

The Tollington serves up mostly Thai food with a small selection of English food which I found to be well made and tasty.

The pub is stylishly decorated and looks very modern and clean. Its not very big and I can imagine that it gets very crowded at peak times.

I know that this pub is very popular on match days especially as the Emirates stadium is only a short walk away.

However, I went on a quite week day and I found it to be friendly and quite.

the old dairy - Finsbury Park

1-3 Crouch Hill, Finsbury Park, London N4 4AU

18-03-2009

This Gastro Pub is definitely worth visiting. I recently had my first visit here and I was impressed.

This former Dairy has been beautifully restored leaving a very spacious venue.

The decor is typical of what you would expect. It has distressed looking tables and old chairs with settees which all adds to the atmosphere.

The menu is limited and is slightly pricey. However, despite this the food they cook is very good and well prepared.

The only downside was with the bar staff who I did not find to be particularly helpful.

Overall an enjoyable experience and I will be going back

Cinnamon Lounge - Stoke Newington

20 Newington Green, Islington, London N16 9PU

08-03-2009

This newly opened contemporary Indian Restaurant ticks all the boxes.

You are warmly invited in by the smart friendly waiters., you immediately enter into a bustling, atmospheric, modern place.

The decor is extremely contemporary, spacious and comfortable. Even on a busy Saturday night I did not feel hemmed in.

The food is not your usual heavy Indian Fare, but a lighter fresher fusion type of food.

An excellent combination of depth and spices without being overbearingly hot on the chilli.

The food is served on modern white crockery, the waiter’s are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes and ingredients.

This new kid on the block is hot stuff!!

All Bar One - Crouch End

2-4 The Broadway, Crouchend, London N8 9SN

10-02-2009

I have been here a few times and I really recommend it. This is a popular meeting place for both couples and groups of friends.

It has a light and airy front with it being more subdued in the back. Their is a great selection of world wide wines and a good selection of beers too. It has a clean modern decour but the chairs could be more comfy.

Always a good selection of food but I would recommend that you ask about the specials. There is a good selection of platers to share.

The waitering staff have always been courteous when i have been plus they are knowledgeable about the food and beverages they are serving.

The Body Shop - Islington

7 Upper Street, Islington, London N1 0PQ

08-02-2009

After the initial assault on your nasal passages that is common in all Body Shops it is quite a nice branch.
The assistant that served me was incredibly helpful and directed me to exactly the products I needed and really made me feel at ease. The shop isn’t huge but just a good size not to get overwhelmed,it’s good to see new ranges being introduced all the time.
There are lots of sets that make great gifts without having to rack your brains.

Organic Food Centre - Stoke Newington

98 Stoke Newington High Street, Stoke Newington, London N16 7NY

08-02-2009

I have to agree with Ms Bling on the old school, plain presentation, the shop front sign misleads you into thinking it’s something special but I get the feeling the proprietors have jumped on the 'organic’ bandwagon without giving it much thought.
There are some good products and they do try to order things in for you if unavailable it’s just really lacking in atmosphere and needs some serious tweaking.

Clissold Leisure Centre - Stoke Newington

63 Clissold Road, Stoke Newington, London N16 9EX

07-02-2009

I’m the opposite of the member who reviewed previously,I have never used the swimming facilities but only the gym..for a council run gym,it’s pretty good. The machines are plentiful and always in good working order and it’s always clean and tidy with no apparent danger spots.
The gym staff that I have spoken to have all been very polite and helpful and quite up on the fitness scene.
There is a a big selection of weight machines and also medicine balls and some free weights.
There are kiddie gym sessions I think on Thursday so that might put some people off or encourage parents to get the children into fitness.
On the whole it’s pretty good..the cafe is a bit sterile though could have a better selection of healthy snacks.

lovelychaos I think they've added some quite tasty looking middle eastern stuff to the menu, all organic goodness and that. Haven't tried, but never want to eat after a workout...

hander Agree. The cafe stuff is great - portuguese pastries, falafel, etc. Some of it is healthy - some pure calorie replacement. Machines could do with a few more healthy snacks though - I'm tired of combatting my 3 yo's lust for Hula Hoops...
