Caffe Brass Monkey - Los Angeles

Wilshire Blvd 3440, 90005 Los Angeles

11-05-2009 (atualizado em 09-09-2009)

Brass Monkey. That funky monkey. Brass Monkey - junkie. That funky monkey.
I don’t know if this place was named after the Beastie Boys song, or after the cocktail, or the movie? However, there’s a few things I do know, there’s three things I love in this world:
1. Drunk karaoke.
2. Drunk dancing.
3. Drunk ---. The Brass Monkey fulfills number 1 and sometimes number 2 and 3!

Did I mention that I love this place? Because I love this place. I have so many good memories here. Drinks are pricey and food is horrible, but this place isn’t about the food. It’s about having a good time and the Brass Monkey always delivers for a good time!

Lee's sandwiches - Los Angeles

E Valley Blvd 1289, 91801 Los Angeles

13-05-2009 (atualizado em 09-09-2009)

Lee’s Sandwich is one of those LA gems everyone should try. It’s so cheap! You can get a huge croissant sandwich for about $3 and a huge fruit shake to wash it down for another $3. The sandwich will last me two full meals.

Another option is to get a Vietnamese sandwich, called a Banh Mi for around $2. But there’s better and cheaper places in SGV for Banh Mi. I stick with the American fare whenever I’m at Lee’s.

Another plus is the clean decor and the computerized ordering system. It’s very clean and very slick. They used to have free internet at other Lee’s locations, but I’m not sure about here.

Parao Karaoke Bar - Los Angeles

Wilshire Blvd 3680, Ste B02, 90010 Los Angeles

17-04-2009 (atualizado em 08-07-2009)

Found my new spot! I’m really impressed. Usually I hate K-joints, but this place was posh with an interesting Egyptian theme. The service was nice and prices were reasonable. AND the place has strob lights. Score! I’d give Parao 5 stars. 4 bottles soju, 2 plates of food = $100. Has a good K-pop and J-pop selection and an okay English section. But hey, can you beat STROBE LIGHTS? I think not!

The Edison Bar - Los Angeles

W 2nd Street 108, 90012 Los Angeles

13-05-2009

This place is amazing. It’s located in what used to be the old Edison Building, hence the name. The old generators are still there.

The decor is 1920’s, and it does remind me of the glitz and glamour of that era. There’s silent movies playing on various walls and hostesses dressed up in era costumes.

The cocktails here are amazing. I recommend the Edison martini and their Gin cocktails. Prices are steep, I recommend going during their happy hour or sometimes on Thurs night, they have a 35 cent drink special.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport - Atlanta

North Terminal Pkwy 6000, 30320 Atlanta

13-05-2009

This place is a nightmare. It’s a nice enough airport, but it is daunting. Friggin huge! It’s got a friggin train to get you from one terminal to the next. For an unexperienced traveler like me, it’s a horrible place to get lost.

There’s lots of interesting bars to pass the long lay-over. My favorite restaurant was Paschal’s, in Terminal C. They served authentic Southern food, including some of the best fried chicken, collard greens and yams I’ve ever tasted.

Cons: not one makeup store to be found! Why???

omni royal crescent hotel - New Orleans

Gravier St 535, 70130 New Orleans

12-05-2009

I loved this hotel. I got a great deal on it and I was surprised at how quaint and elegant this hotel was. It’s in a great location, just outside of the French Quarter, walking distance to most attractions. They have a great sundeck and a free fitness room. Staff was very friendly.

The only downside was their valet parking, $25 a day. I parked a block away for free.

Great place for the price, I would stay again.

Home - Los Angeles

Hillhurst Avenue 1760, Los Feliz, 90027 Los Angeles

12-05-2009

As Timinator reviewed before, it has a nice patio, typical American fare, reasonable prices. I got their fruit salad and it was huge.

I wasn’t too happy with the valet parking. If you’re willing to walk a block, there’s free parking in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Nothing too special, but it’s worth trying if you’re in the area.

Audubon zoo - New Orleans

Magazine Street 6500, 70118 New Orleans

05-05-2009

This is a gem frequented by locals. It’s away from the tourist places, about a 10 min drive from the Quarters. However it’s a good place to experience the real N’awlins.

My favorite day on my New Orleans trip started by buying a pound of boiled shrimp at Big Fisherman’s market on Magazine St., then driving to Audubon Park and having a picnic. Next I walked along their beautiful lake taking pictures. Lastly I stopped at Whole Foods Market and Sucre Bakery on the way back to my hotel.

Cafe du Monde - New Orleans

Decatur Street 800, French Quarter, LA 70116 New Orleans

03-05-2009

The place is okay. Maybe 3 stars but this is what happens when a place gets too hyped up, I become disappointed. Definitely not worth driving out to the French Quarter to visit. Beignets are okay, ice coffee is good. Place is a tourist trap. It seems it is now run by Vietnamese people. Crowded and busy as hell. Meh… they have a chain near the Hilton Hotel (in the mall area), it’s newer and not as crowded, I’d rather I went there.

Continental Room - Anaheim

W Santa Fe Ave 115, At Commonwealth Avenue, Fullerton, 92832 Anaheim

20-04-2009

*This place is not in Anaheim, it is in Fullerton. Qype needs to fix this bug*

What do you get when you take a:
table of friendly drunk Latinos (one gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek)
chubby asian chicks in gothic wear
two drunk brothers grinding each other (I’m not joking, I asked if they were gay, and they said, “no, he’s my brother”)
packed bar with good DJ
a busy, cold weekend night in Fullerton?

You get:
an awesome fun time.

This was the last stop of my pub crawl in downtown Fullerton and a mighty nice stop it was. I wished it was the first stop, then we wouldn’t have hit the other places.

It has a nice Victorian decor. The bartenders seem competent. There’s no cover charge and the bouncer is damn sexy. But most importantly, it had a fun, diverse, mixed crowd that wasn’t afraid to let loose and have fun.

Dancing was great even though the dance area was small. There’s cameras on the dance floor and the people in the other room can watch you. I was tripping because on the screen it looks like I have blond hair. What? My hair is black.
There’s also an outside area where you can smoke.

Overall, this bar is my favorite in Fullerton. Will definitely come back.
