Weymouth Sealife Centre - Weymouth

Lodmoor Country Park, Greenhill, Weymouth, Dorset DT4 7SX

14-08-2009

Weymouth’s sealife centre has a great location not far from the sea front and town centre of Weymouth in Dorset. We decided to go as we had some of those 2 for 1 vouchers. We didn’t exactly pick the best day as the weather was awful but overall we had a good time. The exhibits are easy to manoeuvre and there is a nice selection of fish and water mammals, such as penguins, sharks, rays otters and now crocodiles. I have to say the best part of the day was being stood in the underwater walkway with the giant turtles swimming over head it really is something that has to be done.
I do however have a few niggles…..They make you pay for parking unlike other attractions and it can mount up if you are staying the whole day although there is plenty, and I would probably not have gone if we had had to pay full price of 17 pound each which i think is a little steep. I think if you have young children this would be even better as they could make full use of the paddling pool etc. Although with the vouchers this made a great day out!!!
One last note to anyone thinking of going don’t shout “I found nemo” in front of the clown fish for a joke as I found out that a herd of stampeding children can be quite daunting…..

Currys - Poole

Wessex Gate Retail Park, Broadstone Way, Poole BH15 3TE

24-05-2009

Currys at Wessex Retail Park is one of their larger stores and hold many different appliances. I recently purchased a new lap top from the store and they were absolutely brilliant. I knew what I needed and with a little bit of persuasion they even gave me a few extras. The staff were really helpful and listened to what I was saying. Prices seem to be very competitive especially for anything I have bought or looked at in there and with its large car park it makes the whole experience of shopping there so much easier.

epan Currys owns PC World and they are quite often located adjacent or near to each others. It is not quite good for consumers in the long run when these giants monopolise the market and minimise competitions. Their prices are quite similar to their subsidary companies PC World. Any smaller electronic reatilers could never get a chance in the market as they don't have the economies of scale in sourcing, logistic and retailing.

Any engineering format to dictate the market could never appeal to me at all. However, this is the trend in running businesses nowadays. Sad!

McDonald's Restaurant - Poole

118 High Street, Poole BH15 1DF

24-05-2009

As I have said previously I am not a McDonalds fan but this branch in particular I try to stay clear of personally I find it too busy and too noisy and quite often very untidy. I’m sure that if you have young children it is a great place as upstairs it has a soft play area suitable for young children to burn off some steam. Prices at McDonalds are however a lot cheaper than other restaurants and I know that this is a major draw but it just isn’t for me.

Creekmoor Plaice - Poole

43 Benmoor Road, Poole BH17 7DS

24-05-2009

Creekmoor plaice is Creekmoor’s fish and chip shop which is located close to the post office. Set back off the road slightly it has plenty of room for you to pull up a nip out to grab your tea. Diversity of products and prices are roughly the same across the board of chip shops with a standard portion of chips about £1.20. At peak times the shop does get busy but the staff work hard to clear the throngs of people. I have always found the shop to be very friendly and quick service and the chips are pretty good too.

B&Q - Poole

Fleets Lane, Poole BH15 3BN

24-05-2009

B&Q is a huge DIY superstore that has a great location close to the Fleetsbridge roundabout in Poole. The store stocks everything you will need for any project you are attempting at home from new bathrooms and kitchens to paint, screws and wood. Along with the main store there is also the garden centre area which house many types of plants and gardening equipment. Then store has a very large car park and although the store does get busy with the large size of the store and car park it isn’t that noticeable. For you DIY needs B&Q has to be a first choice with its variety and great prices.

St. Marys News - Poole

111 St. Marys Road, Poole BH15 2LJ

24-05-2009

St Marys news is a small corner shop set off the road with its own forecourt parking. The shop is your average small convenience store stocking newspapers ice cream and sweets as well as a smile. The staff are always really cheerful and willing to chat and help the customers. I often stop here if I am passing and need a little something and I am always happy with my visit.

Oxfam - Poole

136 High Street, Poole BH15 1DN

24-05-2009

Oxfam is located on the high street just down from the train crossing. It is your typical charity shop stocking clothes, books, toys and small gifts. There is always a vast array of stock and prices are reasonable as you would expect for a second hand shop. I have always found the staff to be really friendly and always willing to have a chat. I buy a lot of books in here and they are always priced around 1 or 2 pounds which I think is acceptable. As with all charity shops you never know what you will find within its walls s its always worth a look. Make sure if you are getting married in the near future to have a look at their wedding gear they have a great selection of reasonably priced second hand dresses that are absolutely beautiful.

Sunseeker International - Poole

West Quay Road, Poole BH15 1HZ

24-05-2009

Sunseeker is one of the largest companies in the area and is world renowned for marketing the biggest and most expensive powerboats in the world. Clients include Nigel Mansell and Lewis Hamilton. Sunseeker seems to slowly be overtaking Poole with sites on the quay at tower park and various other locations in the town. It brings a lot of work to locals and has a small space in the minds of many from the town. Some of the boats that you can see from the quayside prove just why the price tags are well into the millions and tens of millions.

Route 1 - Poole

Bus Station, Poole BH15 1UG

24-05-2009

Route one is a great addition to the bus services at Poole. It runs on a loop around the town calling at places such as the bus station, train station and quay. It is great for visitor to the area allowing them easy transport from place to place and makes visiting the town that little bit easier. The price is around one pound a person with cheaper rates for children so if you don’t know your way around or are just tired of walking it is a great helping hand.

Waterstone's - Poole

18 Falkland Square, Poole BH15 1ER

24-05-2009

Waterstones in Poole is sited in Falkland square just outside the dolphin centre. It is not as big as the branches in the local area such as Castlepoint but it does hold a great variety of books on all subjects. It is set on two floors and also benefits from a small café at the rear. Parking can be found at the towns car parks and it is also close to the train station and bus station. I love this store and find it a really pleasant place to browse, with lovely helpful staff.
