The Grocery - Shoreditch

54 Kingsland Road, London E2 8DP

01-12-2008

A huge grocery store that does what it says on the tin. Tons of lovely organic products and a nice big selection of yummy cheeses. You can easily spend a while perusing the aisles here and more easily spend a whole heap of money on one meal!

They also have some lovely wines on offer and lots of fresh meat. I say fresh, I did once come home with what turned out to be not at all fresh chicken. They were happy to rectify it but it was a bit of a pain so do check before you leave!

All in all, top notch!

mOrganics - Shoreditch

229 Kingsland Road, Shoreditch, London E2 8AN

01-12-2008

Quite an oddity this far up on Kingsland Road (more toward Dalston than Old St). This shop offers an array of organic goods, from some lovely food and snacks to shampoo and hair dye. You can get refills of Ecover laundry and kitchen cleaning products which is a whole load cheaper than buying them again.

Gone is the morganics butchers next door to be replaced by a nice little cafe, selling cakes and coffee.

The staff here are always lovely and the walls are always stocked! Highly recommend!

Bar Kick - Shoreditch

127 Shoreditch High Street, Shoreditch, London E1 6JE

01-12-2008

Brilliant place if you love table football! Probably annoying if you don’t as this bar is full of them! Had an excellent time here, played tons of games - what a way to spend a sunday!

The food is good, better than you’d expect from a sports pub/bar type joint. Lots of your standard as well as imported bottled beers to wash it all down with, and quite a few cocktails to boot. They also have sports on in here..unsurprisingly.

A nice break from the array of trendy bars surrounding the place

The Wishing Well - St. James's

188 King Street, Hammersmith, London W6 0RA

01-12-2008

This place is so cool! It’s almost utterly random in it’s interior as well as the choice on the menu, but some how it seems to work.

Our table had such completely different dishes, from chicken fahitas to stuffed aubergines to deep fried cheese. All were really good!

The best thing about this place is if you come on one of your party’s birthdays. The owner has a special cassette tape he will most joyously whack on if he finds out you’re celebrating and his favourite song, which he likes to sing out at the top of his voice, is '21 Today’! Excellent!

Golden Dragon - Leicester Square

28 Gerrard Street, Soho, London W1D 6JW

01-12-2008

Excellent place to venture if you’re in need of a dim sum hit. The swanky interior is nice if not a bit snobbish, but the food is lovely.

Had some great sui mai here, as well as some of the others things the menu has to offer. Recommend the deep fried squid - very tasty!

It’s often hard to choose where to come when you’re surrounded by so many in Chinatown, but this one always seems to shine.

Japan Centre - St. James's

14-16 Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus, London SW1Y 4PH

01-12-2008

A world of fun for fans of Japanese culture slap bang in the middle of London. Whether it’s sushi you came for, to pick some ingredients or even some manga, you can usually find it here.

I tend to pop down once in a while to get some of the awesome wasabi peas (they taste exactly how they sound!) or some frozen edamane.

This place was also good when I was learning japanese, there are loads of books to help (confuse) you!

Don’t forget to sit down and have a quick bite to eat before you head back on the tube.

YO! Sushi - Soho

52 Poland Street, Soho, London W1F 7NH

01-12-2008

Yum. It’s always a treat coming to yo sushi. I feel like a kid in a candy store, but you know..with raw fish. The menu choice is huge and half the fun is waiting for the one you want to come around the conveyor belt.

You can always request other things if you choose, the have some hot dishes which you can order seperately. You can also always ask the chef if you don’t see the ones you want.

The salads are also always lovely, try the crayfish!

Buen Ayre - Hackney

50 Broadway Market, London Fields, London E8 4QJ

01-12-2008

oooo the steak here is good! You’d hope so, it being a steak house. But it’s easy to go wrong, and many do. Santa Maria Del Buen Ayre however is right on the money.

The steak is cooked on the grill in the restaurant so you can see it as it cooks..it smells fantastic! The fries are also really lovely but the chimmichuri sauce is the piece de resistance.

the prices aren’t too bad at all, even if you choose one of the better cuts of meat. I definitely recommend a visit.

PizzaExpress - Westminster

10 The Links West 12 Shopping Centre, London W12 8PP

01-12-2008

Not bad as local pizza places go, it’s not as swanky as some of the other pizza express’ in the chain.

The food here is pretty good, as uniform as most of them are. Love the dough balls, soooo garlicy good. I quite like things that aren’t pizza here tho, the lasagne is nice as is the cesar salad.

Has all the classics, soho / sloppy guisepe / the one with egg..All in all, pretty good!

Princess Victoria - Shepherds Bush

217 Uxbridge Road, Shepherds Bush, London W12 9DH

30-11-2008

Love this place. It used to be a bit of a dodgy old pub but has since been taken over, done up, gutted by fire and then done up again.

It looks great, is huge, and has a large dining room. The food is superb, had a rare steak done properly (which doesn’t happen often). The veg was lovely as was the duck (i got to try my friends.

I think one of the big pulls of this place is the wine and fine wine selection. It’s massive. Also has tons of other posh booze for the connoisseurs amongst us and beer for the rest.
