The Swan - West Malling

35 Swan Street, West Malling, Kent ME19 6JU

14-07-2011

Classy 15th century coaching inn conversion featuring restaurant/brasserie and bar areas. There are also private rooms available for more intimate occasions and parties catering for up to 20 people.

On the menu there are stylish platters of British favourites and seasonal options all served up in exquisite surroundings. The attention to detail extends far beyond the ingredients, furnishings and exceptional personal service. Booking is therefore highly recommended.

Candy Cakes - Covent Garden

36 Monmouth Street, Covent Garden, London WC2H 9HB

23-04-2011

My absolutely fave cake shop in central London. Yes, ok so maybe the colourful morsels are not exactly as heavenly as Soho's top-notch famous French patisserie's offerings but the cosy ambience and row upon row of eye-catching goodies makes up for the lack of grand indulgence.

You can gorge yourself on the gorgeously vibrant cupcakes - often themed and always yummy - or create a selection box to enjoy at home. A customised, personalised service is also available, and you can shop online too.

Well worth a visit if you happen to be hanging out in Covent Garden...

Anne Hunt Sounds yummy!

Adam Street Club - Charing Cross

7 Adam Street, Charing Cross, London WC2N 6AA

17-03-2011

This labyrinthine underground private members' club is centrally located in the heart of the bustling capital, and just a stone's throw from the glitzy Savoy. Catering to private members, media types and those wishing to host impressive private functions, this elegant cavern offers a variety of socialising options including a restaurant, bar, meeting room, library and dance floor.

The club's central address provides the perfect spot for corporate events and social gatherings - whether during the working day or in the evening - and the ideal location in which to mix business with pleasure. Having attended a women in leadership tea conference - and listened to motivational speaker Dr John Demartini - I can also vouch that the freshly baked scones are delicious!

Ehab Mechail Very interesting ;)

Brook's - Hammersmith

140 Shepherd's Bush Road, London W6 7PB

04-01-2011

This family-friendly deli, run by close friends Jo and Leanda, serves up the most gorgeously flavoursome, attractive and filling homemade fayre on the high street. Produce is fresh and deliciously used in light, vibrant salads, unusual risotto balls and continental flaky pies. There is also an impressive stack of gooey cakey slabs and smoothies, coffees and teas to choose from.

The cafe is bright, airy and spacious enough to accommodate buggies and active toddlers. It's also provides an intimate setting for gossip with your girl friends over cake and coffee. Once the chatting is done you can pick up a few delicacies from the specialities shelves, that line one side of the cafe wall, and create a culinary masterpiece at home.

Hotel Chocolat - Tunbridge Wells

257 Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN1 2SS

28-11-2010

Gorgeous tiny boutique-style outlet selling deliciously tempting chocolate morsels and more substantial slabs of devilishly naughty sweetness. The store is decked out in the brand's stylish monochrome designer fittings and fixtures, and the shelves are amply packed with a stunning selection of flavour-packed confection that includes bite-size batons, alcohol infused mouthfuls and more child friendly, pocket-sized portions of white, milk and dark chocolate. There is also tea-infused chocolate available.

The seasonal selections are presented in an eye-catching manner and staff provide samples of the latest creamy concoction on promotion, so you can taste before buying. The Milk Chocolate Truffle Tree is a yummy, crunchy nut and florentine encrusted gift idea that is made to impress. For more of a splurge there is always the boxed Signature Collection or fabulous Christmas Hampers.

Pound Fish Bar - East Peckham

7 Old Road, Tonbridge, Kent TN12 5AT

21-11-2010

Half a Fish 'n' Chip shop/half a Chinese Takeaway - this conveniently located fast food outlet is centrally located in the heart of East Peckham village. With parking spaces directly outside and a cheerful greeting inside a quick lunchtime stop here is a pleasant experience, and a life-saving suggestion when you're busy moving house, like I did recently.

Chips are plumb, hot and crisp and the selection of fish, and alternatives, is decent. There are also children-sized portions on offer, as well as a well-stocked chiller of soft drinks. I've yet to sample the oriental flavours, dished up through the connecting doorway, but with little else available in this tiny village I'm sure it won't be too long before I do.

smith & western - Tunbridge Wells

Linden Park Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN2 5QL

10-10-2010

Fast, furious and incredibly noisy this lively joint offers massive portions, speedy service and a fun environment if you happen to be in celebratory mood. If you're hoping to enjoy a quiet dinner for two however, be prepared to shout over the sound of the birthday cavalcade that appears to arrive every 20 minutes or so. You will hear the clanging of the bus boy's warning gong long before they appear with the firework laden ice cream bucket.

Food is no-nonsense American grub with all the trimmings. Why you need to sample cooked AND raw onions in your burger is quite beyond me though. Although the dishes are attractively presented they do lack flavour, which leaves your belly kind of full but your taste buds disappointed.

Auntie Anne's Pretzel Bar - Tunbridge Wells

Royal Victoria Place, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN1 2SS

01-07-2010

Auntie Anne's need to post a warning! My 13 year old son has become addicted to the rather delicious Vanilla Sugar pretzels - especially if they are freshly baked and still warm. Needless to say all his pocket money is now lining Auntie's pockets!
I'm starting to develop a bit of a craving myself - although I like to alternate flavours. The latest Cheese variety is pretty yum as it goes. Not so sure about the pretzel dough wrapped Dog though - it's a bit like eating sausage and cake in the same mouthful.

Zapata's Restaurant - Tunbridge Wells

1-2 Union Square, Eridge Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent TN4 8HE

01-07-2010

Lively Mexican restaurant with a friendly welcome, although staff forgot to write down my table booking - even though they rang me back the previous evening to take it in the first place! Excellent menu choices though and generous-sized portions. My 13 year-old son struggled to finish his Chicken Enchiladas and he is always hungry!
My only point of annoyance is the random selection of music, which is more Euro-pop than Mexican influenced, and detracts from the ambience and theme. Get the tunes right and I may be back for another visit soon!

Italian Way - Bexhill-on-Sea

Marina, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex TN40 1BP

01-07-2010

Sea-facing cafe/restaurant with a lively atmosphere and home-cooked food. This family-run business sources local produce and offers a decent selection of main courses and desserts, as well as coffee and yummy cake. A generously-portioned lunch for two plus chilled beverages comes in at under £20. Bag yourself an alfresco seat and watch the world go by for a few hours...
