Texaco Express Lube - Austin
Burnet Rd 7120, 78757 Austin

I stopped by today to get a Oil Change and a Inspection for my truck. The staff seemed nice and accommodating. They didn’t tell me how how long it would take, but I suspected at least 30 minutes. After about 15 min or so, during the Oil change, the Female technician came to see me and suggested and transmission service, and I declined. No biggie. Then about 30 min latter another Tech came to talk with me, with my windshield wipers in hand. He said they needed to be replaced. I asked my options, he said I could go buy some and bring back or they had some for $10 (and some change). I opted to have them put their on. So, when they were all done, the female Tech came up and said they were all finished. I met her at the register and she totaled everything up. The total was ninety some dollars. WTF ! She went down the line items, saying they had to add extra oil and the windshield wipers etc. I sucked it up and paid. When I got i my truck, I noticed that they charged me $3 for topping off my radiator, as well as extra oil and $10 (and some change) for EACH windshield wipers.
In my experience, it’s always better to fully disclose unexpected charges. Since they didn’t, I left a very unhappy customer. Somehow, the ended up charging me for $30 more than it should have been. I will not go back to this place. I will not recommend to friends. If you do decide to go, my advice is to make sure you tell them upfront to fully disclose all extra charges.
On a more positive note, across the street from Texaco Express Lube is the most interesting dog groomer I have ever seen. Luther’s Grooming.
Arpeggio Grill - Austin
Airport Blvd 6619, 78752 Austin

The Arpeggio Grill is in a small strip center just West (or is it North)of Highland Mall. They are a combination Pizza and Mediterranean restaurant. They have some of the best baba ghanouj that I’ve ever had. I usually get the vegetarian plate which includes Hummus, baba ghanouj, fatoush & tabouli, dolma, falafels, served with pita bread (w/ tahini sauce). At lunch they have a couple of specials that are worth trying. Check this place out if you like Lebanese/ Mediterranean food.
Barfly's - Austin

This is a dive bar. They pour stiff drinks for cheap. Lone Star is always $1.50 and they make a mean Bloody Mary. The Juke Box is amazing also. This is about as perfect a bar as they get. I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn’t for 2 things, the bald bartender(Kei#&) is the surliest SOB ever, and the smoking area is super hot and dusty in the summer.
House Pizza - Austin

I’ve eaten at House Pizzeria several times since they opened earlier this year. They really have great pizza. My favorite is the margherita pizza. The crushed tomatoes/sauce is just amazing. I highly recommend House Pizzeria, especially if you live on this side of town.

This is a great bar, located on the upper East Side in Austin. They feature a huge patio that will rival the best in Austin. Their liquor selection is incredible. The Nomad is a must visit.
