Arthurs Seat - Edimburgo

Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh, Scotland EH8 8EQ

15-10-2007 (atualizado em 19-10-2007)

This is a must for both locals and visitiors. It looks big from a distance, but is not a tough hill to climb as there are many different routes. Ideal for a sunday afternoon family activity. If you are unsure, you can drive around it, although it's not the same as walking to the top for that view! The ducks in the pond must be the best fed in Edinburgh, and there are some good spots on the lower ground for a picnic.

Mussel Inn Restaurant - Edimburgo

61 Rose Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 2NH

What can I say? This is a seafood haven right in the middle of the city! As you sit and ponder the menu, your mouth will start to water as the pots of mussels on their way to other hungry diners pass you by. These are truly delicious, with different sauces available. Mop up every last drop with some bread, or enjoy other seafood such as oysters and scallops. Pudding to be recommended, and in the summer the tables outside are great for people watching.

Tonic - Edimburgo

34a North Castle Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 3BN

The cocktail menu in here is to be studied....meticulously before ordering. After many experiments, I have defined my favourite as the Silver Mercedes, thick, creamy and alchoholic - ideal! A good place to unwind early evening after a hectic day shopping, alternatively go later on a night out pre-club for some banter when it transforms in to a lively hub.

Bar Roma - Edimburgo

40a Queensferry Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH2 4RA

This place is always buzzing, be sure to book to make sure you don't have to wait for a table. Somehow the combination of large parties and tables for two works, and although the conversation volume is high, it doesn't ruin the atmosphere. The waiters are attentive, and the pasta is always cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a steak, it is quite expensive on the menu, but you won't be saying that when you've tasted it...

Wannaburger - Edimburgo

217 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1PE

This is one of my favourites to go to in the city. There is one on the High Street as well as this latest addition - I’ve tried both. The icecream milk shakes are fab, although filling. The burgers come in many different varieties, you simply choose whether you would like a meat or veggie on, and then choose your filling. If there are a few of you it’s quite good to order a couple of side orders of onion rings and fries - one each would be too much as the burgers are enormous!! When the bill comes to you it comes with a shot glass filled with m&ms - nice!

Lloyds No. 1 - Edimburgo

Omin Centre William Street, Calton, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 3AJ

16-10-2007

This is the place to go for a treat and a meal to remember. A menu symathetic to scottish traditions, but with a contemporary twist, you won't be disappointed. I say it is a good place to go for a treat, as your wallet will feel it, however BYOB does help this. After your meal, you can saunter upstairs to Teuchters bar to round the evening off perfectly.

Teuchters Bar - Edimburgo

26 William Street, the west end, Edinburgh, Scotland EH3 7NH

This is a great pub on William Street - one of my favourite streets in the city - it's like a wee village! The bar has simple yet tasteful decor, with squashy leather sofas to sink in to with the tipple of your choice. There are scottish place names displayed all round the bar, an education in itself and a great game to play is to see who has been to the most and who can name them all correctly! Showing most of the major sports, it can be a real hotspot on a saturday afternoon.

The Bow Bar - Edimburgo

80 West Bow, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 2HH

15-10-2007

This pub has a real Edinburgh atmosphere, with its dark panelled interior, typical of old buildings in this street. On asking the bar staff to recommend a whisky, my friend was astounded to see that they stocked over 150 types! I settled for one of the real ales, the prices are pretty average for the city centre, if you are looking for a no nonsense pub, this is the one.

The Filling Station - Edimburgo

235 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1PE

The atmosphere in here is electric, the decor is great to look at whilst you wait for your food - tasteful car memorabilia both past and present adorns the walls. Classic dishes such as fahitas, burritoes, steak and seafood are served promptly, I always think it is a good sign when the waiter knows who is having what when they serve the food. The dessert menu is awe inspiring, and the staff don't mind when you ask for two spoons! A popular place for big parties of diners, not the place for an intimate meal.

Garfunkel's - Edimburgo

130 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland EH1 1QS

15-10-2007

This is a good place for dinner if you have been walking around the city centre all day, it's warm and the menu has lots of comfort food! I can recommend the scampi and chips which are cooked to perfection, the only problem is leaving enough room for pudding! This place does get very busy, especially during the festival, so you may need to wait for a table.
