Tortilla - Fitzrovia

6 Market Place, London W1W 8AH

21-12-2009

Terrible...the service was efficiently cold, but the food was a bit cold as well. My chicken burrito was bland, lacked any flavour and was just a major disappointment. The chicken seemed a bit low quality as well...I recommend Benito's Hat if you want better Mexican.

Vapiano - Fitzrovia

19-21 Great Portland Street, London W1W 8QB

The pizza is suprisingly good, but I actually find that the pasta is usually undercooked and the cooking is inconsistent depending on your server. I like the upstairs lounge tables, and overall the place is solid, although a bit expensive for what you get.

Busaba Eathai Restaurant - Marylebone

8-13 Bird Street, Mayfair, London W1U 1BU

07-08-2007 (atualizado em 16-04-2009)

I love all the Busaba Eatthais in London - the original one on Wardour Street, the one here on Bird Street, then there is also one on Store Street near Tottenham Court Road (which has a table you can book for up to 22 people for parties)

The squid is amazing, as are the chili prawn fried rice and the chicken curries. The roti is soo good when you dip into the curry as well.

Great atmosphere, affordable and top notch food.

LanaC yeh Busaba!! I wil have to check out the original!

Scandinavian Kitchen - Fitzrovia

61 Great Titchfield Street, London W1W 7PP

23-02-2009

This is a super-cool place and such a cool find in London. Just behind OXford Street/Marketplace, it has friendly staff, nice pastries and all kinds of odd Scandinavian foodstuffs, candies, etc. All my Swedish friends love the candy pick a mix selection, the shrimp paste in a tube and other odd pickled, smoked fish products. The coffee is decent (not the best), but the atmosphere is cool, and there are some tables in the back so you can have quick coffee business meetings any time.
Definitely worth checking out!

Black & Blue - Westminster

1 Rochester Walk, London SE1 9AF

29-09-2008

Went here on Sunday late afternoon because its one of the only restaurants in the area still open once the market shits (and Roast was closed as well from 3.30pm). I fancied a steak, so I ordered the large Sirloin steak…highly disappointing. Very cheap tasting meat. My dinner/late lunch companion ordered the filet steak which was nicer, but not up to the standards you expect for a good steak restaurant, and at £20 each steak, we expected a lot more. The prawn in garlic butter starter was not bad, but this I would recommend avoiding this place. Its a chain at its worst

arlene oh dear! What does the market do…?

Dehesa - Soho

25 Ganton Street, London W1F 9BP

29-09-2008

Steer clear of this place - it looks lovely, but the quality of the ingredients were not great (our fish & beef dishes were just of poor quality & consistency, and to be honest, didn;t taste great). On the expensive side, and nowhere near as good as Barrafina.

Even the desserts were not great.

Wahanda - St. James's

China Tang At The Dorchester - Mayfair

Park Lane, London W1A 2HJ

26-10-2007 (atualizado em 09-06-2008)

Average & unspectacular. At these prices, one would not expect normal food and a less than stellar restaurant - a basement location with low ceilings and cramped seating with inconsistent service. You are MUCH better off going to Hakkasan if you are looking for upscale chinese. A few other reviews on other websites talk about the great 1930’s style decor…umm, the decor is awful hotel stylings with the pub/casino carpeting. The food is decent, but again you can get much better food at better prices in Chinatown, or in a better environment in Hakkasan. Utterly unimpressed

Discerning1 I could not agree more. I am about to post a review myself but wanted to tell you directly that Hakkasan came up as a benchmark when my wife and I were discussing over dinner quite what a hyped-up rip-off China Tang was.

NedK Wrong wrong wrong. CT beats Hakkasan 10=0

Maze - Mayfair

10-13 Grosvenor Square, London W1K 6JP

03-06-2008

Disappointing…the decor is bland. The entire restaurant (and especially the bar area) feels like it was designed by the person who does reception areas of mid-range hotels. Its cold, impersonal, and not comfortable. We ordered from the tapas/small dishes section of the menu…hmmm…picture small dishes, then divide that by half, and then again, and those were the portions. So miniscule that you could barely taste anything. The scallops were lovely, as was the tiny tiny piece of veal. The lamb was nice, and the halibut was OK…but the BLT martini was probably the worst thing I have ever eaten (tiny tiny pieces of bacon on top of a red gelatin (tomato?), green frothy broth (lettuce?) - wow, it was awful. The quail was the size of a human pinky. Avoid these…
The staff were super nice, and I got a tour of the kitchen after our meal (we sat at the bar). Overall, completely forgettable, no vibe, and the food was barely passable. Not worth it.
If you want good Gordon Ramsay, go to Petrus

Paul UK - Holland Park

82 Holland Pk Avenue, London W11 3RB

29-05-2008

All the Pauls in London, in my opinion, are awful. Horrible coffee, sandwiches where the baguette bread will break your teeth, decidedly French service (which is not a compliment by any means), weird service queues and payment stations and uninspired food. I cannot understand why anyone goes here…the one near Holland Park tube station is one of the worst. The ones in France are slightly better, but really, this is about as bad as it gets. The McDonald’s of french cafes/coffee houses. Only Starbucks is worse.
