Costa Coffee - Stirling

22 Thistle Centre, Stirling, Scotland FK8 2ED

21-11-2008

I visit this branch every month or so on a Saturday, it’s always very busy and there’s not that many tables so you sometimes have to wait or come back later, I also think they’ve crammed in too many tables and it can feel like a bit of a squeeze, so not pram friendly.
The coffee and hot drinks selection is great as with all costa branches, they offer a wide range, various sizes and will cater to specific needs i.e de-caff, skimmed milk, soya milk etc. Staff are friendly though do get order mixed up occasionally. The coffee is definatly worth the fairly expensive price but I think their food (sandwichs & cakes mainly) is over priced and not that good.

King Robert Hotel - Whins of Milton

Glasgow Road, Stirling, Scotland FK7 0LJ

21-11-2008

I really like this hotel which had a good make over in Spring 2007. The surroundings are lovely, it’s right next to the heritage centre and there a few good local walk routes and picnic areas for in the summer.
The room are of a high standard, they are spacious and decorated nicely, breakfast is included in your stay and there’s a huge variety of cooked items as well as cereals, fruit and yogurts.

We actually had our wedding reception here in 2007 and I cannot say enough good things about how great the hotel staff were. They were very accomodating to our specific needs, the food was lovely and our guests were well cared for.

There is a bar and resturant open to the public which sells lovely meals at a reasonable price.

Wetherspoons - Falkirk

Bank Street, Falkirk, Scotland FK1 1NB

19-11-2008

I quite often go here for a quick lunch with a friend or family lunch/dinner at the weekend. There’s always offers on & the food is really cheap. Service can be slightly slow at times but it tastes fab once it arrives and there is a fairly good choice (burgers, currys, roast dinners, bangers & mash etc)
The toilets are upstairs which is a bit of a trek, there is one disabled toilet downstairs with a baby changing unit but it is locked & staff always seem to take ages to find the key!
It gets really busy & loud in here at the weekend evenings, it’s ok as a place to meet up with friends but you probably wouldn’t want to stay there all night.
The place is clean & the tables are spaced out nicely but it could do with a bit more light.

Mcaree Bros - Stirling

55-59 King Street, Stirling, Scotland FK8 1DR

19-11-2008

This shop has been here for a long time and is well know for it’s quality and value. They sell a large range or wools and knitting patterns, sewing eqiptment, buttons etc. Staff are full of knowlede of their products and are chatty and friendly. The shop also stocks school wear for local schools and has a small selection of trousers and skirts for Primary school kids. They will order in goods you need that they don’t currently sell. They sell name labels for childrens uniforms, iron on ones can be made then & there or they can order sew on labels which take 7-10 days.
Prices are reasonable & the shop is clean and tidy.

Barnton Street Barbers - Stirling

39a Barnton Street, Stirling, Scotland FK8 1HF

19-11-2008

A great wee barbers shop in the town center. The staff are really friendly in here and they are good with young children, they have special chairs for the kids with toys attached to keep them amused. They are fairly cheap but the service is still great. You don’t need to have an appointment and there’s usually only a small wait. The shop is kept clean and tidy and is open 7 days a week.

Dobbies Garden World - Stirling

Drip Road, Stirling, Scotland FK9 4ST

19-11-2008

A very large branch of Dobbies on a short drive from the town centre. The choice here is phenomenal and I have often found myself wondering around for hours not knowin what to buy! Their plants are of a high quality and are well cared for and watered regulary. There is plently of staff available to help and assist you while you are shopping. The store has a good selection of garden furniture and ornaments. There is a small selection of cold and tropical fish for sale. They have some lovely trees and decoratings in at Christmas time.
The store has a large cafe which serves a good selection of drinks, light lunches, cakes and snacks, the cafe looks out on to a small childrens play park which also has a maze to keep them amused while you have a cuppa.
There is a large carpark with pleanty of disabled spaces.

Bhs - Stirling

8-14 Murray Place, Stirling, Scotland FK8 2DB

19-11-2008

This is a really large BHS, I think it has 3 floors in total. They sell a large amount of womanswear but a lot of the clothes seem suited for work or the older generation, they don’t sell much in the way of trendy clothes or evening wear. They do have a good lingerie section though and have a very good variety of sizes for larger ladies, they also have a nice nightwear section. They have a floor with childrenswear which does have a good variety of school and playwear though for the quality of the clothes the prices can seem a bit expensive. Their homewear section is really good and they have a nice selection of crockery, lamps, mirrors and lights.
There is a cafe on the top floor which sells snacks, meals and hot/cold drinks, the prices are ok but there is little choice and the menu is always the same, they do a fab cooked breakfast in the mornings.

Clarks Shop - Stirling

30 Thistle Centre, Stirling, Scotland FK8 2EE

19-11-2008

A fairly large branch of Clarks which stocks a good range of adult and childrens shoes. The shop is usually quite busy especially during weekends and holidays. The staff are excellent in this branch and have always taken their time to measure my childrens feet properly and check the shoes fit and have growing room. Their prices can be more expensive than some shoe shops but the quality of the shoes and reassurance that you know they fit you feet properly makes them well worth the price.
The have a small section of bags, gym shoes, umbrellas etc as well and have a good range of polishes and cleaners to suit various types of shoes or boots.

Hollybank Restaurant - Stirling

58 Glasgow Road, Stirling, Scotland FK7 0PH

19-11-2008

I’ve not been to this resturant for about a year but used to dine there fairly regulary whilst growing up in Stirling. It’s a smallish resturant on the outskirts of Stirling with a lovely garden and a real 'homely’ feel to it.
They serve a lot of homemade foods from a mainly brittish menu i.e steak pie, fish and chips, steaks etc. The food is well priced and you get a decent portion as well!
They can get quite busy at the weekend so I would advice booking a table in advance, though there is a bar area that you can wait in if there isin’t a table available.
Staff are friendly and polite but the service can be a bit slow at times.

Boots The Chemists - Stirling

23 Thistle Centre, Stirling, Scotland FK8 2EE

19-11-2008

I medium sized Boots store in the city centre, this brach is always busy, though it is well staffed so your not waiting around long to be served. They have a couple of make up counters and a perfume counter with friendly staff who will help you find the right products for you without making you feel under pressure to buy something.
The pharmacy section is fairly busy with it being so central and waiting times for a prescription can be quite long. They have a good selection of sandwiches and snacks.
Upstairs there is a large baby section with lots of choice and a baby feeding and changing room with bottle/food warmers and changing mats, though the nappy bin could do with being emptied more often.
There is also a photo counter upstairs and a small opticians service. There is a small homewear section and in November and December there is a good selection of Christmas gifts for children and adults usually most of the gifts are included in the 3 for 2 price offer.
