Bunch Of Grapes - Bristol

8 Denmark Street, Bristol BS1 5DQ

17-11-2007

A nice pub right next to the Hippodrome. Its got a long theatrical past and the decor reflects this. Its full of posters of old plays and shows and you could spend a long time reading the walls!

Its quite a quiet pub, not one to go to if you're planning on getting completely wasted (the hatchets down the road!), good for a quiet drink with friends!

Black Swan - Eastville

438 Stapleton Road, Eastville, Bristol BS5 6NR

17-11-2007

The Black Swan is one of the most unique venues in bristol. It hosts the craziest nights around spanning from Drum and Bass to the heavier house and electronica. However, it is on the dodgier side of town (speaking as a fishponds girl i'm allowed to say that!) and its advised to get a taxi when you leave as waiting around for a bus in the early hours is not to be advised unless there is a big big group of you.

Also, don't expect to be home before about 8am... Its a party place...

The Cube Cinema - Bristol

4 Dove St South, Bristol BS2 8JD

17-11-2007

The Cube is in the same league as the Watershed cinema, but has alittle something extra special as it is run pretty much entirely by volunteers. It host some really quirky and special films and has entire nights dedicated to certain genres (a couple of fridays ago they had a special Horror-fest running from 8pm to 8am!).

There is a bar with good priced nice booze, and all the staff are lovely as they are all passionate about the place. They also host some really good music events!

Thekla - Bristol

East Mud Dock The Grove, Bristol BS1 4RB

17-11-2007

The Thekla is one of the best club venues in Bristol. Its a refurbished boat which makes it a bit of a novelty and its lovely to sit up on the deck with a drink and just look at all the boats.

It has some awesome nights, I recommend Socialism on a Saturday night for Electro fun times. It used to host Stutter but recently kicked it out which is a shame. It now has Death from Above on Thursday nights, which is basically exactly the same as Stutter. But not.

Cheap alcohol and lots of fun people. Best venue in Bristol!

Old Duke - Bristol

45 King Street, Bristol BS1 4ER

17-11-2007

The Old Duke is a really good live music pub in the heart of Bristols pub land. Its right next to the King Bill and the Apple boat. It has alot of really good music nights, the staff are friendly and the alcohol flows freely.

However it can be a bit of a haven for underage drinkers, so look out!

The Croft - Bristol

117-119 Stoke's Croft, Bristol BS1 3RR

17-11-2007

In the old days the Croft was the sort of place where you could go and get served aged all of 16. Partner that with the fact that its in Stokes Croft, one of the more um.. unsavoury areas of Bristol and you've got yourself a bit of a dive.

However in recent times its really improved. It hosts some really good bands and the whole area of Stokes Croft is on the up, with clubs like Clockwork and Lacota gaining in popularity.

Watershed Media Centre - Bristol

1 Canons Road, Bristol BS1 5TX

17-11-2007

The Watershed is a quality independent cinema. It shows a wide range of interesting films and along with the cube is one of the only places in Bristol that shows smaller less well known films. It has a really nice atmosphere and is near to the arnolfini. You can combine the two for a cultural, fun day out!

It also sells lots of ace postcards!

St. Werburghs City Farm - Bristol

Watercress Road, Bristol BS2 9YJ

17-11-2007

St Werberghs City Farm is a really great family day out. The farm may be small but kids love it (some of my best childhood memories are at the city farm!) and its interesting for adults too. Theres an amazing duck pond and lots of rabbits and guinea pigs, along with the obvious pigs and goats etc etc.

The cafe is lovely and rustic looking, I definately recommend the veggie sausage sandwich. Its top notch!

The Crown - Bristol

10 All Saints Lane, Bristol BS1 1JH

16-11-2007

The Crown is pretty much the Hatchet but lifted up and plonked down near the chav central that is Corn Street. Its a bit gothic, and a bit seedy, but its great!

The drinks are cheap, which is pretty much all I look for in a pub, and the staff are funny and friendly. Theres 2 pools tables and a club venue downstairs which is available for bookings (its cheap as chips too, £100 quid which gets repaid if they take £500quid on the bar). A good pub!

Mr Wolfs - Bristol

33 St. Stephen's Street, Bristol BS1 1JX

16-11-2007

Mr. Wolfs is one of the best places in Bristol for three reasons:

1. Lots of Live music, there seems to always be something happening there!

2. Late opening, whatever time you roll out of the nearest club you can pretty much always depend on Mr. Wolfs to be open and full of interesting people.

3. Noodles!
