Brighton Beach - Bridgetown

Outskirts of Bridgetown, Bridgetown

A lovely beach and place to enjoy a rum punch – loads of turtles swimming in the sea. Beach is very clean, white sand and crystal blue water.

This is a modern, fresh new restaurant in Folkestone – set up by mark sergeant who used to work with Gordon Ramsay. The standard is very high for Folkestone and we had a very enjoyable meal there. Started with cocktails in the upstairs bar with views of the harbour – starters were a little on the large side, hubby had the mackerel pate which would have done 2/3 people, we were shown the meat board for main and chose the rib of beef – which was £40 for two but excellent quality and we couldn’t fault it. Potatoes lyonnaise were too salty so we sent them back. Didn’t have room for dessert – would definitely go again

Savour Aroma - Folkestone

Cheriton High Street, Folkestone, Kent CT19 4JE

Food is of an excellent standard, and its well prepared, the service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. there are some unusual dishes on the menu, which is good to see, and if you get a chance to go whent he scallops are in season, they are to die for!

famousatlast This has now closed down – shame

Skuba - Folkestone

I love skuba - it has a relaxed and laid back attitude, the people are really nice and it has a good mixed vibe. the outdoor area is friendly for smokers, the beer and spirit collection modern and up to date, and the live music is great!

Wild For Flowers - Folkestone

I love getting flowers from WfF - they are always original and contemporary and very special. The girls have worked really hard to build up their business over the last 4 years and deserve all the success int eh world.

famousatlast Another business that has fallen victim to the recession – such a shame

The Chedi - as-Sīb

Simply a stunning and breathtaking hotel. There are strong arabic design influences on the entrance hall with large chandelliers, large carpets and a sunken sofa. The piano bar is fabulous place to sit and enjoy some music and soak up the atmosphere. There is a fabulous fountain pond thing that runs straight down to the sea and all the rooms are low rise off from this with a private beach. We did not stay here but merely met friends at the bar, had a meal and enjoyed a fun evening sipping cocktails and champagne. Quite a formal atmosphere and service and can be very sophisticated. 6 star quality hotel and the private dining rooms are stunning all individually decorated. Food was western influenced and to a very high standard.

lovely hotel in fantastic setting, long approach road down from the mountains in to the sea is breathtaking. There is a fabulous dive centre next door - the oman dive centre - and for the moment this hotel is the only one. The views are stunning with fabulous 5 star service

Asda - Folkestone

Folkestone, Kent CT20 2RZ

24-11-2008

I would agree with Purplegirl. The concept of an ASDA was great until we saw the practicalities. It was supposed to be a 24 hour store, but they stopped being 24/7 a couple of months ago. The clothes shop being downstairs and closing at 6 is a nonsense (you also have to pay separately, which defeats the object - its handy to throw a tshirt or pair of shoes in with the weekly shop). The canteen is quite small, and the one time I used it there were long queues to get served.

English Heritage: Leeds Castle - Maidstone

Leeds Castle, Maidstone, Kent ME17 1PL

22-11-2008

This is marketed as “The Loveliest Castle in the World” and it is. my friend got married here last year (I uploaded the photo of us there) and it was just magical. Very classy venue, amazing main hall seats 100 - the food was excellent quality, lots of local produce used. the setting of the main house is fabulous for a wedding (up to 100 guests) but you will need to go onto the marquee or other buildings if you are more. Surrounded by a moat it is atmospheric in the evening, and has so much to recommend it to all types.
There are things to do for children, walks and there is the castle and grounds to walk round. They are running a promotion at the moment, that if you pay once to enter the castle you can come back as many times as you like within 12 months - so if you live locally this makes it terrific value and there is certainly enough to see and do that you will want to come back a couple of times.

Malta Inn - Maidstone

Fordtal Road, Allington Lock Sandling, Maidstone, Kent ME14 3AS

22-11-2008

This place is really only to be recommended for its location. The food is bland/cook chill beefeater type fare and nothing special at average to high prices, which is a shame because in the 70s and 80s this was the place to eat. i remember going here as a child with my parents on high days and holy days for a treat. In the summer its lovely to sit and drink a beer and watch the world go by… I also remember a boyfriend taking me canoeing here and me losing the canoe into the lock - and boyfriend a couple of days later!!!
