Subway - San Jose

Lawrence Expressway 500, 94085 San Jose

02-10-2008

So I’m not a big fan of Subway, but this place was pretty quick and clean. Nothing to brag about their sandwiches, but I like their service. I was disappointed though, since I was craving for some cheese steak sandwiches and this place is right next to St. John’s…oh well. I got stuck eating a turkey wrap and a bottle of ice tea.

Grand Palace Restaurant - San Francisco

Grand Avenue 359, 94080 San Francisco

I came here with my friend for a Chinese wedding. Wow! Another asian place again…but worth to eat. The food here was off the hook! He told me it was real authentic food and if I’m correct…did I NOT attend a Chinese wedding? They had so many courses that I couldn’t fit more food into my stomach. My friend was right…I have to leave plenty of room for all the dishes. We started off with slices of beef, BBQ pork, baked/grilled peking duck, fried crab and shrimp ball, shark fin soup ($100 worth for just a bowl), steamed mushroom and bok choy, fried rice with shrimp, etc. I had one bottle of white wine to myself…I wasn’t drunk yet. I just got started. The waiters and waitresses were really quick with their service, each time the food was coming out. They also were attentive to your drinks too! I ONLY had this portion of the food, but there was plenty of dishes that kept coming out. Who knew that Chinese weddings….they go all out and stuff you with lots of damn food. AND they give you To-Go boxes!! The wedding was really beautiful and so was the bride. The brother gave a wonderful and humorous speech. The MC….girl can sing and really got the flow of the wedding in full swing. Overall, they managed to fit more than 200 guests in one room and serve spectacular food, but the dancefloor was fairly small. I would definitely come back here again and try out the rest of the dishes…and their dim sum!

Top Cafe - San Jose

South De Anza Blvd 1075, 95129 San Jose

This place is a lot better than the Milpitas location since it isn’t cramped up and small. Plus, the one in Milpitas it’s always busy and crowded. My friend took me out to grab something to eat, since I haven’t been eating any food for the last few days (I’ve been fasting), but my friend was really concerned for my health too. Finally someone dragged me out and got me to put something in my stomach. Out of all places, my friend chooses a Chinese joint to eat…I should hang out more with a different set of people. I seem to be hanging out with more and more asians. Anyway, I ordered the Mixed Vegetables with Pan Fried Noodles along with chicken (I had to request the chicken since this wasn’t on the menu) while my friend ordered some “secret” menu item of half and half fried rice (there was some tomato-based sauce on one half of the rice and the other…have no idea what it is). Both items were pretty good, but maybe it’s because I haven’t eaten anything in the last few days. Place is a lot bigger and clean. Service is slow. Anything taped to the wall that’s all written in Chinese…I have no idea what it says but I’ll assume it’s your “secret” menu that my friend and I were talking about.
+1 for cleanliness
+1 for decent food
+1 for being opened between 11am-3am. Yes! A late night spot if you’re around the Cupertino area.

Longs Drugstore - San Jose

West El Camino Real 1165, 94087 San Jose

02-10-2008

This is one of my late night places during the work week when I need some meds for my headaches…why? Late night studying, work, laundry, cleaning, etc. Plus…it’s always open 24 hours when I REALLY need it. Trust me, I know I need some advil once finals and midterms are right around the corner. Of course, I’ll also end up purchasing a pack of red bull.

Raging Waters Theme Park - San Jose

South White Road 2333, 95148 San Jose

02-10-2008

I like the wave pool, the waterslides, but I don’t enjoy the kiddie area. I’m afraid that the water isn’t sanitized. Prices ain’t bad either but the food is pretty expensive. Nice place to splash in the water and walk around in a bikini while other guys gawk at you or guys trying to suck in their guts so women think they look macho. Haha! I’m kidding. But really though, the closest waterpark around while it’s scorching hot outside and you just want to cool off.

Dollar Tree Stores Inc. - San Jose

South Park Victoria Drive 1350, 95035 San Jose

02-10-2008

I like I can buy gift bags for a dollar. A pack of crayons for a dollar. Paper plates for a dollar. But I will NOT….buy any food products at a dollar store. I don’t know how old they are. I understand that none of their stuff aren’t name brands, but they’re cool. If I’m on a budget and I know I need some plastic ware for a party, I come here.

Metropark - San Jose

Stevens Creek Blvd 2855, 95050 San Jose

02-10-2008

I love shopping here…for urban wear. Now, plenty of people shop here. Ugh. So much for the urban look. I like their graphic tees, the accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, etc. the purses and hats….and they carry triple 5 soul. But damn…the prices. I just have a love/hate relationship with this store. Anyway, Chris that works here is super awesome. He always helps me out and knows me already because I WAS a faithful shopper. Now I just drop in once in awhile whenever I haven’t bought a thing here.

Buca Di Beppo - San Jose

South Bascome Avenue 1875, 95008 San Jose

02-10-2008

Much better atmosphere compared to Little Maggiano’s. Plus…another family style restaurant that can serve a large group of people. Food is pretty good, but I sure as hell like the homey feel and service. Can be much of a wait for this location, but it’s worth it. Especially when you come here with your family and chit chat for good company…I would recommend this place.

Ikea - San Jose

E. Bayshore Road 1700, 94303 San Jose

02-10-2008

If you’re looking for furniture that you plan to last you for only a few months until you realize you just spend $50 on a couch that wasn’t worth it, come here…..at least their style and taste is really modern looking and cute. Did I mention that I don’t have to drive to Emeryville since this one is much closer?

Now towards the food….
$1.00 for hot dogs, $3.00 for cinnamon buns and the cafeteria-like food…I’m going to head to Costco for the hot dogs, eat at Cinnabon for something more worthy to eat, and I’ll bully the kids at high school to give me their lunch money to eat their tasteless cafeteria food instead of here.

The two stars?? I’m cheap when I’m on a budget. I have yet to come back here for another trash can.

Hearst Castle - Los Angeles

Hearst Castle Road 750, 93452 Los Angeles

02-10-2008

Any angle for a photo…amazing. Simply amazing. Hearst….what a rich fella…and the whole entire family. Great historical site. Imagine a huge mansion like this and throwing massive parties…wow. Too bad you have to take a tour bus all the way to the top to get to the house. BUT it’s worth the wait.
