Jessops is one of the places in Abingdon that you can get photos developed, but it’s mainly a camera shop. I tried to buy a new camera there earlier in the year, but was completely ignored by the staff. We left and went back later, but the same happened. In the end I gave up and bought it online.

I try and support local business, but this one is not worth saving.

It’s very hard to find an NHS dentist these days, but they are available at the Peachcroft Dental Practice (although not all the dentists there do NHS work). The practice itself is very nice, with a waiting room and helpful staff. I have never needed an emergency appointment, so I can’t comment on whether or not its easy to get one.

The quality of the dentistry is also high. The only negative comment I would make is that the dentists lack a friendly bedside manner.

Hedges Butchers cater mainly to business, but they also sell to domestic customers and their Abingdon branch is open to the public. Your only problem is going to be spotting it - it’s hidden away behind Stroll In, although they do have a small sign that you’ll see if you’re looking for it.

This is our closest Post Office, since all the others in the area were closed over the summer. If we had had any choice in the matter, this is not the one that would have been saved - the service is nowhere near as good as it could be. Now that they are the only PO in the area, it’s even worse - more customers, novice staff and long queues. If we could avoid it, we would.

The Broadface is a very popular venue for office workers on their lunch break. And deservedly so, as the quality of their food is very high.

However, their popularity does come at a price. At peak times (Friday lunch times, most notably), they have more patrons than they can comfortably cater for. The service isn’t snappy and you can wait a long time for your food. If you’re in a hurry, it’s not the best place to go.

I have been using Creations for years and have always been very happy with the service and with the quality of their hairdressers. They even did my hair for my wedding, and my bridesmaid as well.

The environment is nice, the staff are friendly and I have never had a problem getting an appointment. They have a new computer system now, as well, so they can record all of your details (which hair colour you normally use, etc).

Car parking is free and easy in the Peachcroft Shopping Centre car park.

Abingdon Superdrug sells a very big range of toiletries and cosmetics, hair care products and things like that. As the previous reviewer mentioned, it tends to be cheaper than Boots for most things.

They do sell a small range of medicines (over the counter stuff that you might also find in a supermarket, for the most part) but they don’t have a pharmacy.

We have 2 chickens - and not every vet is set up to deal with them - but the Abingdon Animal Hospital has always been very helpful when they’ve been ill. The reception staff are efficient and the vets are very professional.

We recently found a stray cat, and took it in to be check for an identity chip. The practice nurse helped us out, and there was no charge for that service.

The hospital itself is purpose-built and very clean, and there’s a car park (although it’s a bit on the small side). Very central location, and convenient opening hours.

Pets at Home is the new pet superstore on the Fairacres retail park. As such, it’s huge - and has the added benefit of a large, free car park.

They stock pretty much everything you could think of that’s pet related - including some small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. They also do fish and aquariums.

It’s a nice enough shop, but I prefer the personal touch in Seeny’s in the town centre, and the traffic around the Fairacres end of town is often awful so it’s not somewhere you can go in a hurry.

Seeny’s is a great pet supplies shop. They sell everything you could want for dogs/ cats/ rabbits & guinea pigs/ birds etc, and the staff are very friendly and helpful as well. If the thing you want is not currently in stock then they can order it in for you - there’s no charge and it’s usually available within a couple of days.

There is a car park, and it’s usually free if you’re shopping at any of the shops in the Coxeter centre or Seeny’s. On Saturdays there’s usually someone charging, but tell them where you’re going….
