Buckle Yeat Guest House - Hawkshead
Nr Sawrey, Hawkshead, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 0LF
20-09-2011
Every aspect of Buckle Yeat Guest House was excellent and it is easy to see why they have received a Silver Award from enjoyEngland.com. From the moment we arrived my friend and I were made to feel so welcome. The interior of the Guest House has been kept in the style of Beatrix Potter though bedrooms all have TV; Tea/coffee making and ensuite facilities in them. Beds are very comfortable and everywhere is kept very clean.
The location of the Guest House is very close to various Beatrix Potter attractions and Robert and Helen Kirby gave us some wonderful tips for visiting them. Robert also gave us information regarding catching the ferry across Lake Windermere and both he and Helen provided that extra special attention, which made us feel as though time could stand still and every moment could be savoured away from the busy-ness of normal life. Our twin bedded room was excellent value for the service we received and I would encourage anyone visiting to Cumbria to pay them a visit.
McDonald's Restaurants - Hamilton
8 Palace Grounds Road, Hamilton, Scotland ML3 6AD

I have used this restaurant on dozens of occasions but the true test of a good restaurant is when things go wrong. Last week one of the customers had parked over both disabled bays. On passing the car to go and get a coffee I saw there was no disabled badge displayed and was quite upset about it. Inside my friend and I had a couple of problems with our lattes which were both replaced without a problem. That night I got home and emailed McDonalds to complain. The Owner contacted me by email and offered to meet me – an offer which I accepted. When I met with him he explained how he had followed up my complaint and also talked about the measures he has been going to, to stop people abusing the disabled bays. Sadly he and his staff have been assaulted by customers who have parked in the disabled bays but have no right to. He has asked many to move and every time he does has to put up with “couldn’t care less” attitudes from them. I have also seen this happen where someone swore at me for mentioning they weren’t displaying their disabled badge.
Overall the way my complaint was resolved and the speed with which it was resolved was exemplary. The restaurant itself is constantly kept clean and tidy and is enjoyable to sit in with friends for coffee and a burger. The Owner also puts a huge amount of effort and help back into the local community and does his best to speak up for those who otherwise can’t.
Personally I feel respected as a customer and also that my complaint was not only resolved, but resolved in a way which exceeded my expectations. I would happily recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Weightwatchers at Hillhouse - Hamilton
Hillhouse and Earnock Community Centre, Hillhouse Road, Hamilton, Scotland ML3 9TX
05-11-2010
Started attending WW at Hillhouse on Tuesdays in July and have not only lost, but also kept more than a stone and a half off. Stacey Muir who heads the meeting up is full of life and ideas on how best to lose weight. Unlike many others she also gets weighed in front of the whole meeting so all her members can see her own journey to maintain her own weight. Customer service is great with helpers who are personable and friendly and also take part in their own Weightwatchers journey. From being totally unsure whether I could lose weight, Stacey's help and support along with that of her helpers has made me much more confident in my own weightloss struggle. Even better is that I can eat normal food and the plan fits in with my lifestyle very well.

Frankie & Bennys - Hamilton
Palace Grounds Road, Hamilton, Scotland ML3 6AD

(atualizado em 23-08-2010)
Returned to Frankie and Benny's recently and was rather disappointed. I understand why a lot of people are not happy with it. We were stuck at a table away in a corner where we had to wait the best part of an hour before our order was taken. There was a couple across from our table who had ordered a starter which was cold when it came and had to be sent back. Our waitress did her best to serve but when another waitress came we got the distinct impression that customers were just a nuisance. Food didn't come up to the standard for the prices we were charged. All in all the night out was nothing special. We won't be back anytime soon!!
Whether it's a cup of coffee or full 4 or 5 course dinner you're looking for, Frankie and Benny's is worth a visit. This popular restaurant has great food at great prices. With up to date decor and staff who keep on top of clearing tables, cleanliness is not an issue here. Even better is its location between Asda and the Vue Cinema. Start with dinner, go to a movie and finish with doing the shopping at the 24 hour Asda. Only thing is the tables can be pretty close together.
Shanghai Rendezvous - Wishaw

This is now shut down
Looks great from the outside and is popular on Friday nights with parties of various types. Food is good enough quality but even under the hot lights of the buffet it loses it appeal when left for too long. Staff are helpful enough though they do stand around making diners feel uncomfortable when the restaurant is quieter during the week. Decor is pretty tired looking though the place is clean enough. Car parking space is not huge so when busy lots of cars are parked out on the street. 'All You Can Eat' buffet is what makes it worth the money.
Golden Fry - Hamilton

Recently Refurbished, the Golden Fry has got a completely new lease of life. They serve a much greater range of food from Panninis to Pizza, toasties to soup and of course Fish n Chips. The shop itself is kept very clean and is bright and airy. Staff are quick to serve and attentive and there are even a few stools for people to sit and eat in. Prices are also very reasonable with choices between mini suppers as well as normal suppers.
Average fish and chip shop located beside Fillippetti's Convenience store. Offers the usual fish suppers, deep fried pizzas and some other various fried food. This includes pakoras etc which can be bought in various deals. Prices are average and food is fairly greasy but is worth a visit if you don't feel like going too far from the area. They also do a delivery service within the local area which is worth thinking about.

From the outside this looks really nice and inviting, especially when it's raining. However, when I went in the door I tripped on the rug just inside and fell. As someone who already suffers from serious back pain, I was highly unimpressed when one of the staff stated, "It happens all the time.." I was even less impressed when not one member of staff bothered to ask me if I was okay. So be extremely careful when entering this establishment. It took several comments from one of my companions before anyone came out to ask if I was ok. I am not even convinced this was written in the accident book.
Once inside the food itself was ok but nothing startling. In fact nothing about this cafe made me consider returning to it.
In August 2010 I returned to Valerios as it was the closest to where I was and I needed to sit down. Although the decor was still very much the same I have to say the food and drink was well worth having. Only problem was that they only offer full fat coffee but for a Fish n Chip shop this is nothing unusual. The place is still kept very clean and I avoided going in the main doors so I wouldn't trip this time. It was also very busy which is always a good sign!
Vals I would like to give the correct version of events when this unfortunate lady fell. It was raining very heavily that evening, but the lady did not slip on the wet floor but tripped on a corner of the door mat(designed to avoid people falling on a wet floor!)It was extremely busy, and any perceived lack of concern by our staff was only a genuine lack of time. The fact that the lady has serious back problems(although sad) is nothing to do with this incident. No one told her ” it happens all the time” because it simply doesn’t .
When I was able to, I did come over to ask about how she was, and I explained that it was simply an accident which was not due to any lack of care on our part.
A few days later a Health and Safety officer visited the Restaurant, ( thanks to the lady kindly reporting this incident to them). He agreed that there was indeed no negligence on our part.
Come in and judge the food for yourself.

Plumber came and fitted a new kitchen in Calvary Church in Motherwell. Also fitted heating in both the church and the back halls so church and halls are now nice and warm. This store has shut down.
Excellent customer service from friendly and understanding staff. Great range of products all at very competitive prices. This store itself is usually well laid out and spotlessly clean and tidy, however in January 2009 it had suffered from a flood of water from one of the flats above. However, even with this problem the shop remained open with the damaged section closed off. A good variety of products with various swatches of material and different woods gave an idea of the large choice facing customers. Staff took time and allowed us to take our time to decide on the best product, material and options. As it was a cash sale a small discount was offered on the already competitive price.
Shell UK - Hamilton
45-47 Portland Place, Hamilton, Scotland ML3 7JX

Petrol Station is located on the left up Low Waters Road heading towards Strathaven. Prices are around the same as other petrol stations and they also run the Shell Reward scheme. Plenty of pumps fitted into a fairly small, well it forecourt. The station inside is clean and staff are friendly and helpful. There are a good variety of snacks and car related products for sale. Only hassle is trying to drive back out of the station onto a small side road and then onto the busy Low Waters Road.
