This Manchester’s best secret for buying designer labels for less. TK Maxx is a Discount designer-fashion retailer (clearing store) hence you get only whats available on the rails/ shelves. To get the best bargains its best to visit regularly to familiarize yourself with their departments, sub departments, floor layout, only then will you be on the money.
I like this store I’ve bought Ed-hardy jeans for GBP49.99 that cost GBP199.99 in Selfridges, Osprey leather messenger bags GBP 79.99 and cost a whooping GBP 300.
Its best to avoid Saturdays because its very busy, best to go there on Thursday evening when they close late.
As for staff well don’t really need their help because I’m very busy stuck in looking for that bargain, only need them when i want try on something in their changing rooms and checking out.
Thank god for TK Maxx

As someone who is based in the city centre and has an eBay online business i have to confess the Post office was renowned for long queues with a 1960s counter design but now it has undergone a massive refurbishment. The big “bulletproof like” perplex glasses separating the customer from the staff and have been replaced with short, crisp 40cm high by 80 cm wide perplex partitions. This i think has also improved customer service relations.
The place is very clean, open “business like” feel with comfortable brown leather sofas in the middle. They have installed ticketing system machines on both entries whereby you can choose which service from counter services, passport check and special delivery collect your ticket and wait for your number to be called out and which counter will be serving you. The counters are also labelled alphabetical with red LED display signs. Special delivery is given the highest priority and then counter services (i.e ordinary mail and payments).I like Plasma screens they have installed…they show your number and people waiting for that service plus the ticket also tells you how many customers are in front of you in the queue, gone are irritating post office adverts.
The service self service parcel sending machines are also a great relief if you can’t be bothered waiting only if you know how to use them but not worry staff are always eager to help.
Once everybody gets used to systems and more staff are brought in which i daunt in these uncertain times and when some people stop paying their bills at the post office and start using their phones, banks and the internet ..i think only then will long queues be a thing of the past…. only time will tell.

Located in the New indoor Arndale Market next to the Strawberry Garden (Green Grocer) overlooking the High Street.
This is a family run cafe which offers a huge selection made to order Hot wraps, baguettes, smoothies, cakes and Jacket potatoes and fresh salads.
I go to this cafe for lunch for its delicious mouthwatering Italian Chicken and Chargrilled Vegetables paninis. You are guaranteed they used the freshest ingredients because the green grocer is just 8 feet away. I also recommend you try the Chicken tikka, spring onion & mozzarella cheese panini, utterly heaven.
They also have vegetarian panini’s and baguettes like Falafel (falāfil) , Humous & cheese.
The staff are very friendly and are eager to answer questions you have about the menu.
Its worth a visit and the prices are not bad either!

These guys have all types of fish sourced from crossed the globe. They also take seafood orders for all specialty dishes. They staff are very helpful, friendly and very competent about what the are selling.
I also like the oval shaped display plan the shelves are laid out it gives the customer a good mini tour around and see their fresh product. Another added bonus is that it is located in a spacious food section of the indoor market and the place is very clean and tidy.
If you lucky you might find a unique catch on display when you visit, last year they had a 1.2 metre Swordfish caught from somewhere in West Africa on display.

It’s located in a purpose-built space on Upper Brook Street to the south of the city centre near the University and has a large free car park. This is one of Manchester’s largest restaurants – seating 300 people and is the first of the successful Chinese concept supermarkets -meets-restaurants.
The food is classic Cantonese – most of the staff are from Hong Kong – and the dim sum here is a specialty. They have a large selection of dim sum presented on a separate menu divided into sweet steamed, and fried. The food and service are excellent, it maybe slightly pricier than the rest , but it’s well worth it. Tai pan also offer good-value business lunches on week days at bargain price of £5.95.

This is a huge superstore where Aldi stores used to be on Wilmslow Road and has a big customer car park to match. This store has the biggest selection of spices i have ever seen for domestic or commercial cooking.
In the Spices Department you will find all herbs and spices you are likely to need for that perfect home-cooked curry including Bay Leaves, Cardamom Pods, Cayenne Pepper, Chilli Powder,
Cinammon Sticks, Coriander Powder, Cumin Powder,Curry Powder, Fennel Seeds, Fenugreek Seeds, Garam Masala
Paprika, Black Peppercorns, Turmeric, Curry Leaves, Star Aniseed, Coconut Milk, Tamarind Paste, Vegetable Ghee…....... Excuse me if i got carried away its just that i love cooking curry and hate eating out especially in curry restaurants.( i don’t see what the fuss is all about)
Worldwide Foods has also the biggest selection of imported Basamati Rice sold in any superstore and it comes in a variety of weight packages from 1kg to 10kg.
A visit to this store is worthwhile and trust me Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay would not walk out of this store empty handed.

The bar at Room Manchester is amazing and is part of Room Restaurants, a group of individual restaurants with bars. With high ceilings and lamp shades, the decor is sexy and very inviting. Choose from the extensive cocktail and wine menus and relax in the bar or eat from British 'Classics’ menu offering modern works of 'retro’ dishes. At night the restaurant comes alive with an evening brasserie atmosphere that you would expect within any cosmopolitan city and Manchester is no exception.

Great little bar. Friendly door staff, nice music ,home cooked lunches, good selection of imported beers. Typically of a NQ bar, its small, so if you need a seat, you’ll have to get their early, although the quieter downstairs usually has an odd spare seat.

The market is on the fountain side of Piccadilly Gardens, next to the statue of Queen Victoria, in Manchester city centre.
The market contains a number of stalls and brings together farmers from across the North West, selling a whole host of fresh produce. It is the farmers themselves who attend this market giving you the opportunity to ask them all about the products they are selling.
You will always find new items on sale so make sure you visit the markets regularly to see what new produce is on offer.
For those in search of good foodstuffs should visit the Farmers’ Market in the city centre every 1st Saturday of the month. You’ll find a fantastic array of locally produced, good quality, GM-free delights, which include Lancashire honey, ostrich meat, Cumberland sausages, free range lamb, geese, smoked trout, locally grown herbs, local cheeses and more! There’s a constantly changing array of delights.
