Poole Park - Poole
poole park, Poole BH15 2SF
20-05-2009
I would call myself a very regular user of Poole park as I have been walking my dog there for the last 7 years.
I usually park alongside the copse or in the little car park where the old zoo used to be. It’s 2 hours free parking but i’ve never seen a warden in 7years.
The train is great and I love to see the kids (big and small) using it. Christmas is a magical time wit the large purpose built grotto, the animals and the visit to santa.
The storms of 87 changed the landscape of the park - any trees which seem to be laying on their sides now are the result of the hurricane.
Ducks, swans and lots of Canada Geese for the children to feed.
Tesco - Branksome
Poole Road, Poole BH12 1AD
20-05-2009
I used to use this store regularly when I worked nearby.
I always find it very friendlyand whilst it is a much smaller store than the other ones in Poole, it has a nice atmosphere and the stock levels are good.
Diversity is recognised here and it has had a prominent Jewish section of food for many years, which reflects the local community around the store.
It’s on a busy main road and the petrol station often has a queue, but there always seems to be plenty of parking. You can enter from Lindsay Rd or from Poole Rd.
It’s a 24 hour store.
Sainsbury's - Poole
11 Pitwines Close, Poole BH15 1XU
20-05-2009
Best time ofthe day to visit here is around 6.30. This is when they are starting to close some of the counters and they often have really good knock down prices on the meats and cheeses.
Parking is good, don’t bother after 10am on a Saturday though as it gets very busy and you’ll have to queue.
Don’t forget the half of the parking ticket which gets you £2 back when youspend £5 - over the years I’ve forgotten loads of times.
nice store to visit and often has really reduced home goods such as plates and candles, some real bargains to find if you have a good rummage around the shelves.
Marks & Spencer - Poole
45 Dolphin Centre, Poole BH15 1SU
20-05-2009
Marks and Spencer has always been the gold label of food and continues to be so in a market which is flooded with cheap convenience food.
This store has 2 entrances - 1 in the Dolphin Centre and 1 outside in Falkland Square.
The best way to enter is from Falkland Square asyou are instantly into the food hall.
It’s always busy, but the stock levels are good. The staff are helpful and the quality of the food is consistent.
Parking is a problem in that there is none adjoining so a weekly shop could be a heavy drag back to the car which is a shame as there is a great choice.
Iceland Foods - Poole
120 High Street, Poole BH15 1DF
20-05-2009
The location of this Iceland is the one main thing which lets it down. Itis on the High Street and there is no parking next to it.
This means if you don’t live locally and you are parked elsewhere, you will have to carry all the food down the High Street.
There are bargains here, much of it is convenience rubbish, but the party nibbles are ok to stock up on at Christmas.
The staff are often a bit sullen looking and are the most friendly I’ve ever seen but the prices are cheap and if you’re on a budget and have a large freezer, this is the place to come for your food.
Tesco Stores - Poole
Tower Park, Poole BH12 4NX
20-05-2009
This has always felt like the main store in Poole, even though it is at Tower Park. The store has grown over the years and even has an opticians now.
It is a 24 hour store and there is lots of parking around the store, although at the weekends it can get very busy.
Lots of great offers and a really big range of electrical items.
Often a few youths hanging around outside in the evenings, but security is always on the door.
Asda Stores - Poole
West Quay Road, Poole BH15 1JQ
20-05-2009
This is a big store, aimed at those who have a car.
It always has an odd atmosphere, not unfriendly, but just bland and uninviting.
There is a large selection of evertyhing you could wish for from a superstore and is a 24 hour store.
The cafe isn’t great and again has a lack lustre atmosphere to it.
Free bus service from some parts of Poole, but on the whole, not geared to the non-car user.
Aldi - Poole
Lagland St, Poole BH15 1RU
20-05-2009
I was very excited to see an Aldi opening in the centre of Poole as I am a very frugal shopper and also do lots of cooking from scratch and like to discover new ingredients.
I was very disappointed when I ventured inside. I felt I was in a Lidl cast off store. There are interesting bits and pieces food wise, but there are more choices at Lidl. The 6 for 69p in fruit and Veg. is the best thing to go in there for.
I didn’tlike the way you had to put everything back in your trolley after the till - unpacked and the go to this long shelf at the back of the store to pack it all into bags, it seemed an odd way to do things.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed. There is parking outside which is shared with the flats. As long as you are shopping in Aldi, you can use this car park.
waitrose - Poole
311 Ashley Road, Poole BH14 0AP
20-05-2009
Waitrose is, and has always been, a very expensive store to buy your food from.
I’m still not sure the move from Westbourne was a good idea, it feels a bit squashed in amongst everything else along Ashley Road.
I like the fact that Waitrose have choices which the other main supermarkets don’t have - they often have stuff from smaller suppliers and interesting bits and pieces that you just wouldn’t find elsewhere.
Waitrose is a real luxury place for me to do any shopping and at the end of the day, I’m not convinced it is worth all the extra from my pocket.
Mace - Poole
121 Parkstone Road, Poole BH15 2PB
20-05-2009
This branch of Mace is in a convenient place if you are at the college or work at the civic centre as it is directly opposite.
Parking is very difficult. There is a long layby outside servicing this and about 6 other shops and is full all day.
Mace has the full range of your normal convenience food but has a bit of a strange atmosphere, I always feel as if I am being watched whilst I am in there.
Prices are good, good for just stocking up on the emergency essentials but only really if you can walk there.
