Vrisaki Kebab House - Palmers Green
73 Myddleton Road, London N22 8LZ
07-05-2008
Down a residential street and at the back of what looks like a kebab house is Vrisaki; a brilliant Greek restaurant. The meze is the best I have found in the UK, and includes a large variety of dishes including gorgeous fish, and meat kebabs. You will be very full, can sit there eating for hours, and the bill is very reasonable.
De Hems Dutch Bar - Soho
11 Macclesfield Street, Soho, London W1D 5BW
07-05-2008
A great dutch bar just of the main China Town street. A large inside space wit bar on two floors. The upstair bar is quiter and can be hired for functions. This pub serves a good selection of international beers including the strawberry wheat beer Fruli. The pub also serves very good food. Although there is not a beer garden as such, drinking is allowed outside the front of the pub and this area can get busy at after-work drink time.
The White Cross - Richmond
Water Lane, London TW9 1TJ
07-05-2008
This riverside pub, in Richmond, attract all age-groups and has real ale (Young’s) as well as the usual alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. It is a pretty old style pub with trendy beer garden that overlooks the river (although walled off). There is an additional bar in the beer garden. Also serves food which is a little pricey. Inside during the winter there is a real log fire!
Ealing Summer Festival - Ealing
Ealing Broadway, London W5 2LD
06-05-2008
Each year Ealing hosts a summer festival which includes sessions in one of ealings parks including jazz, comedy, world music, and more. For full details have a look at the weblink. Entry is cheap (some sessions just a few pounds), sessions are during the day and evening, you can take in your own food and booze for picnics. Also stalls and shops at each session. Relaxed atmosphere; great for kids as well as adults. Mainly outside but some sheltered stages.
Mehfil Restaurant & Bar - Southall
45 The Green, London UB2 4AR
06-05-2008
A great Indian Restaurant in Southall. Best to go here in a group as this allows for variety of starters, main dishes, rice and breads as the portions are large. There is a car park out the back and also a hotel upstairs. Have a look at the menu on the restaurant’s website. Good meet and vegetarian selection. The restaurant is smart yet relaxed, and the prices are reasonable if you share dishes. Don’t worry about sharing if you are greedy (like me) there is plenty will be plenty to go around. and you will be feeling very fully by the end of the night.
Old Ship Inn - Hammersmith
25 Upper Mall, Hammersmith, London W6 9TD
06-05-2008
A great summer pub within 15 min walk from Hammersmith station. There is a balcony that overlooks the river, some picnic benches outside the front of the pub which also overlook the river, and a green area for when there are no other seats left. Good selection of the usual alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus ales and large selection of flavoured vodkas. Food is canteen style so head to the service area and pick what you want. Food is good and you can eat outside or in. Expect the pub to be busy in summer. It attracts a young crowd!
Thames walk - Richmond
8-10,Gough House, 57 Eden Stre, London KT1 1DA
06-05-2008
If you fancy a short or long walk along side the River Thames then head to Richmond or Putney stations and make your way down to the river. You can pretty much walk alongside the river the whole way and there are plenty of pubs to stop for along the way for light refreshment. You will stay on the Surrey side of the river the whole way. From Putney walk down the river past a bunch of rowing clubs towards Hammersmith bridge, and then further down the river to Barnes bridge, and further to Kew, or even further to Richmond. All bridges mentioned are within 10 min walk from tube/train station so you can easily get home and can shorten/lengthen your walk as you like.
Walpole Park - Ealing
Mattock Lane, Ealing, London W5 5EQ
06-05-2008
A lovely park with several entrances from Ealing / West Ealing area. Definitely head here for a picnic or a game of football in the sun. There are toilets so you can stay all day. Walk around the park, visit the small animal rescue centre (50p entrance fee which goes towards caring for the animals). As well as large expanses of green there are paths all the way round and across the park so good for bikes, buggies, wheelchairs etc. There are two duck ponds with cute baby ducks at times.
Co-Co Noodle Bar - St. James's
70 The Mall, Ealing Broadway, London W5 5LS
06-05-2008
A ‘Wagamama’s’ style noodle bar in Ealing Broadway, a few mins from the station. Be prepared to share tables with other customers. There is an extensive choice of noodle and rice dishes - and portion sizes are large. The dishes arrive as and when they are ready and are tasty and cheap. It can get busy so you may need to wait for a table, but well worth it if you are looking for a quick feed during your lunch hour or before going out.
Le Palais du Jardin - Covent Garden
136 Long Acre, Leicester Square, London WC2E 9AD
06-05-2008
This is a brilliant French restaurant in the centre of London a bit off Covent Garden. You can pop in for a glass of wine and sit at the windows, which open up in summer, or you can sit a the bar. The restaurant is spotless with pristine white tablecloths and excellent service. The menu is wonderful with loads of fish dishes including several lobster dishes and oysters. Very difficult to choose which dish to have but all are delicious, and are presented very attractively. You can see the chefs hard at work in the kitchen. Starter, mains, sides, puddings all highly recommended - and good wine. Well worth a visit; expect to pay about £50 per head but well worth it for a special occasion.
