MIAN - Nudelhaus - Bahnhofsviertel

Niddastrasse 52, 60329 Frankfurt am Main

05-05-2011

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in Frankfurt in a long time in that price category. Very friendly service, always well-populated, frequented by mostly Chinese, affordable prices and extremely good noodles and dumplings. This place is worlds apart from the typical German incarnation of a Chinese restaurant (those that offer Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese/Japanese all in one location) or all-you-can-eat-eateries. I've never been to China, but this food comes closest to my favorite places in Chinatown in NY or SF.
Highly recommendable. Off the beaten track. Don't be afraid, the Bahnhofsviertel is not as bad as it looks.

Goldmund im Literaturhaus - Innenstadt

Schöne Aussicht 2, Literaturhaus, 60311 Frankfurt am Main

01-05-2011

On a recent visit with a friend and his daughter, my wife and my daughter (both children under 3 y old), we loved the interior, the food and the wine. Unfortunately, the service was about the worst thing that ever happened to us in Frankfurt or anywhere for that matter. Our children were not very loud and were flirting with the guests on the table nearby (who were flirting back). A few minutes into our stay, the waiter comes and asks us to "tune our children down" and to imagine we would be on a romantic dinner - "would you want to be disturbed by children's noise?" he asked. "And just to make it clear, nobody complained, I just want to make sure it stays like that." What should you say to that? Well, we tried our best and did stay calm. Until we (remember, all adults at our table had wine and a full meal) took out the drinking bottle for our daughter when the waiter came again with the words "I don't want to be annoying, but could you please be so kind and remove this drinking bottle from the table?" Sounds like this story is made up? That's what I would think, if I hadn't seen it.
What is really sad about it is that we really liked the food, the prices and the restaurant, but like this, we sure enough won't come again.

mibufra This certainly is a very sad experience!
What a shame!
As they say on their home page: "Den besten Eindruck von .... unserem Service gewinnen Sie auf jeden Fall durch einen Besuch im Goldmund."
I am afraid, that indeed may entirely be correct!

Die Kuh die lacht - Burgerbar - Innenstadt

Schillerstraße 28, 60313 Frankfurt am Main

20-02-2011

Were here again recently and were sooo disappointed. Although the atmosphere is still nice and the service (basically this is a self-service restaurant, so with service I mean the person taking the orders and the people bringing the food to the table) is friendly, the food is really not good anymore. This was our 4th visit in 2 years. The burgers were dry and burnt and on top of that cold when they arrived at our table. The fries were also cold. What a pity. Hopefully this was just an exception, but with so many good burger places in the city now, we won't come back any time soon.

Danno Where's a good burger place in this city?

lovestoeat For example IMA Kitchen (Ottostrasse). Unfortunately only for lunch.

Bagel Brothers Frankfurt - Bahnhofsviertel

Kaiserstraße 49, 60329 Frankfurt am Main

16-09-2008 (atualizado em 01-12-2010)

Update of 30Nov2010:
After having been here now soooo many times, I am starting to get a bit irritated that the bagels are less and less crusty. Not sure what this is all about, but I am taking off one star for this and hope that this will improve again, soon.
Also, my hopes for additional cream cheese varieties have not come true yet. Come on, give us at least e.g. one weekly special in addition to the regular ones.
By the way, the muffins are very good.

******************

For Bagels in Germany, BB is so far the best I have tried. Doesn't get near my absolute favorite Ess-a-Bagel in Manhattan, but hey, that's an 8hrs flight away. Americans put way too much schmear (cream cheese) on the bagels for my taste, but here (but that is "typically German") they put too little. However, you may always ask for "ein bisschen mehr" (a bit more). All in all, the food here is 4, i.e. with a slight bit of room for improvement. Prices are superfair.
The service is friendly but slow and chaotic. I am happy that so far, I always only went there early in the morning when there were less than 8 customers.
I would certainly recommend to go there.

bagel_brothers_ffm Dear lovestoeat,
you are a real bagel maniac! It takes years of experience to find out the differences in texture and composition of the Bagel. Right now we are playing around a little bit with temperatures and also time in the oven to see, where we can improve. Sometimes we are a little off the mark. But we are going back to "normal".
Regarding the spreads. Anything special you would like to see? Just drop a short mail frankfurt@bagelbrothers.com and let me know what you like. We are open to anything, well almost.
Hope to see you soon,
Andreas

Ima kitchen - Bahnhofsviertel

Ottostr. 19, Frankfurt am Main

25-03-2009 (atualizado em 01-12-2010)

UPDATE November 2010:
Unfortunately, IMA Kitchen is now closed again in the evenings. I saw that coming. Too few customers although the owners would not admit that this was the reason for this change.
What a real pity - I loved to go there especially in the evenings for it was super cozy and relaxed then.

*********

UPDATE July 2009:
IMA Kitchen is now open also in the evenings from 18.00 to 23.00h.
Enjoy it while it lasts!

*******
The burgers here are really good. The fries no less than fantastic. The things I find worth criticizing are that it sometimes takes "forever" to get the food (OK, I am exaggerating a bit) and the opening hours (only open until 15.00h).

Au Bon Coin - Clignancourt Jules Joffrin

49 Rue Cloys, 75018 Paris

25-09-2010

This is an excellent neighborhood Bistro with fair (Paris) prices and good homestyle cooking. Nice selection on the daily menu ranging from meat, foi gras, fish to salads. Nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Café Bar Brücke - Sachsenhausen

Brückenstraße 19, 60594 Frankfurt am Main

25-09-2010

Lam Freres - Bahnhofsviertel

Weserstr. 12, 60329 Frankfurt am Main

25-05-2010

Was here now for the second time already and had an excellent time again. They serve Singha and other Asian beer for a modest price, here and the service is very friendly, quick and "awake". And the food is just awesome. For me and my wife this is by far the best (in terms of taste, authenticity and price) Asian we've been to in Frankfurt so far. The interior of the place is also very tastefully decorated, miles away from cheesy or cheap like so many other Asian restaurants in Germany. We've had so far the Red Curry Duck, Pho Bo, Dim Sun (a rare staple here in Frankfurt and prepared to perfection at Lam Freres) and the Vietnamese Summer Rolls Do Cuon (a sort of "Do it yourself" meal). And each dish was very good and freshly prepared. Will try the Lunch options (around 5,50 Euros per dish), soon.

Eberhards Scheuer - Bad Soden

Eberhard-Preis-Weg, 65812 Bad Soden

25-05-2010

What an oasis - amidst the green fields: original "Hessische Kueche", homemade cakes, Aeppler and beer. Sandbox to play as well as two sheep to look at for the kids and lots of dogs. Everyone enjoying the sun. The place is self-service with real authentic folks (means: a bit rough but not really unfriendly) and the prices are best value. A Sunday afternoon destination very well worthwhile visiting.

Coquelicot des Abbesses - Montmartre

24 Rue Abbesses, 75018 Paris

21-05-2010

This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy breakfast, coffee and pastry or have a quick lunch or afternoon snack. Indoor as well as outdoor seating is great and it feels "just right" to be there and indulge in the Parisian Coffeehouse atmosphere. The coffee (incl. Cafe au lait) prices are a real bargain as compared to most of the Parisian Cafes and you get also the food is good value for the price (quality and amount). Highly recommendable.
