Alverne Restaurant and Lounge - Penzance
Alverton Street, Penzance, Cornwall TR18 2QN
14-12-2011
Went here for the first time for our office Christmas meal. Everyone really enjoyed everything they ordered, service was quick and efficient, staff were friendly and the setting is cosy – a fantastic night was had by all.
The only reason I have not given a 5 stars is because there were 2 people who came into the restaurant at about 20:30 and asked for a table (the place was empty exept for us). I didn’t ask the staff but someone overheard that the chef had packed up for the night! Not good.
So to summarise – wonderful food at reasonable prices but make sure you book!

Chips previously frozen and £1.80 - NO! Absolutely disgusted, they didn't even taste good - I will never return.
West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) - Penzance

Here we have a small but efficient local hospital. It has an A&E department which gets quite busy during the summer months, and is a vital part of this hospital.
The first thing you notice is that it is very clean and not as busy as the larger hospitals like Treliske in Truro - less hustle and bustle, it all seems quite calm, which is a refreshing change. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
There is an outpatient department which is always very busy as they hold lots of different clinics each day. There are 2 medical wards, a surgical ward and a day case unit.
If you get hungry while you wait you can use the cafe/restaurant which serves some lovely food at reasonable prices.
I had a day case procedure 2 years ago (had my gallbladder removed) so have first hand experience of the service, which went very well. The treatment I received was exceptional - it was almost like being treated privately. All staff were very attentive, efficient, friendly and most importantly, reassuring - I was very nervous! - I needn't have been.
There have been threats to close this lovely little hospital down - I sincerely hope this never happens as they provide a vital service to a wide area of the population down here - the main hospital is in Truro, which is 25 miles away - not so easy to get to when you're ill.
Post Office - Penzance

Our main post office in town - usually very busy as most main branches are, but although the queue can sometimes be very long they seem to move very quickly.
The staff are very helpful, polite and friendly. They have the usual post office retail side of stationary, greetings cards etc and also do foreign currency.
I like our post office - having visited quite a few around the country as main offices go, this has to be one of the nicest.
Cornwall County Council Penzance Libraries - Penzance

Great little library. They have books! They also have dvd's, cd's and upstairs there is a computer room - some pc's have lovely big widescreen monitors. You can book a time slot for use or if there's one available just go and use it - you get half an hour free daily use, which really came in handy when our internet service went down. There is a small charge for longer use, which can be added on to your free time.
Staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and make you feel welcome.
I hope more people use the library service as it would be such a shame to lose them - quite a few libraries around the country have closed down, let's hope this never happens here.
Citizens Advice Bureau - Penzance

Having a big life changing problem and not knowing how to deal with it causes no end of stress and worry, but luckily enough we have a fantastic service offered by our local Citizens Advice Bureau.
We recently ventured in out of desperation and thank goodness we did - I have nothing but praise for the volunteers and workers here. We were treated with respect and understanding, without feeling rushed or pressured for time. Our caseworker was completely professional and although I got a bit emotional she sorted everything out to a very happy conclusion.
Thank you to all at Penzance Citizen Advice Bureau. If anyone needs advice or help - go here and if they possibly can, they will help.

We went recently having bought a voucher worth £50 for half price via Pirate FM. On arrival we were asked to sit and have drinks and browse the menu while they bought out apperitifs - lovely touch!
When I mentioned that we had this voucher the menu's were whisked away, and we were left with only the a la carte, which did not really have anything I particularly wanted as I don't care for fish. I chose the cornish beef fillet which attracted a hefty £6.75 supplement - the price for a la carte is £24 for 2 courses and £29.95 for three. As vegetables are not included with the meal we added that to the order, another £3.95
The food was absolutely wonderful - very tasty and beautifully presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the surroundings were pleasant.
We only had one alcoholic drink each and ended with coffee but the bill came to just shy of £37 to pay after the £50 voucher had been deducted.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wanted fine dining and can afford it, as for myself - when I win the lottery, perhaps I will return and bring family and friends with me :-D
hotelpenzance The 1/2 price Pirate FM Dining Club Voucher is only valid with the evening a la carte menu I’m afraid, that is why the correct menu was substituted when you mentioned it.
All our meals include potatoes of the day and a complete vegetable accompaniment, but we offer additional vegetables on the menu to those who enjoy a larger appetite.
Our average evening diner spends £45 including VAT and drinks, but you can dine here for £24 a la carte, or up to 6.30 for £13 on our daily Menu du Jour menu for 2 courses

We went for a meal in December 2010 during late night christmas shopping - everywhere seemed so busy except this little restaurant although I don't know why.
The staff were very friendly and service was quick and efficient, the food was excellent - I had Annapurna curry with half portion of pilau rice and half a naan bread, hubby had a veggie curry and the other half of rice and naan - mmm, mmmm it was delicious! I'ts making my mouth water just thinking about it. We had a kulfi ice cream for afters - the one in the little clay pot called a matka, it was soooo nice, pistachios, saffron sauce, cardomon and creamy ice cream all in a little magic pot :D (if only it was, and kept refilling for free)
Will definitely be returning and highly recommend to anyone.
Thai Moon - Penzance
2 Alexandra Road, Penzance, Cornwall TR18 4LY

The owner and his wife (who does some of the cooking and is from Thailand) were very friendly and welcoming, we absolutely loved the food here.
For starters we shared the thai corn fritters called Thord Man Khao Pood - yes it's pronounced cow poo'd but they taste fantastic!!! we also had the vegetable tempura. For mains, I had chicken massaman and hubby had vegetable gaeng phet with rice to share.
The food was fabulous, service impeccable but the chairs weren't very comfortable, but I'm not moaning, it's such a small inconvenience.
We will return before too long and can highly recommend Thai Moon if you enjoy genuine thai cuisine.
cerberas Went to this Thai restaurant on a whim, it was my birthday and to be quite honest i did not expect too much. The place was quiet as it was early in the evening in November … however what a brilliant meal with perfect service we had. We have booked for the New Year and will eat there again soon !!

Julie Bromage Dance Academy - Bedworth
Chapel Street, Pulman House, Bedworth, Warwickshire CV12 8PT
12-02-2011
Julie's is the best dance studio in the midlands. Two of my grandchildren and my niece attend and have been doing so since they were 3. I know of ex students of Julies who have gone on to great things, all down to Julie and her team.
The annual show at the Civic Hall is always something to look forward to and never disappointing as are all the shows that the students work so hard to put on . . . they're amazing and so talented.
And it's not just for the girls . . . my grandson loves it!
