Verdaddy's - Miami
Biscayne Blvd 7501, 33138-5123 Miami
06-02-2009
Very cheap Mexican food. It’s nothing much to look at (outside or in)but the friendly staff serve plates piled high with tasty, fresh produce. There are a few tables inside, but it’s more of a take-out place
Bin No. 18 - Miami
Biscayne Blvd 1800, 33132 Miami
11-12-2008
Small, friendly restaurant just north of Venetian. This place is massively understaffed so the wait can be quite long, but the food is good, simple meat and cheese fare. They also offer beer and meat for sale in their shop and you can get take out which may be easier than eating in. The food is fresh and seemed reasonably priced (but we got ours half price because of the long wait). Wine tastings on Thursday evenings.
Tobaco Road - Miami
South Miami Ave 626, 33130 Miami
11-12-2008
This is a 'normal’ (Uk Style) restaurant / bar with live music from 10pm most days. The decor isn’t plush, but the bar service was friendly and they serve up good value burgers and beer. I think they refer to this kind of a place as a 'dive bar’, but I’d just call it good.
Nexxt Cafe - Miami
Lincoln Rd 700, 33139 Miami
27-11-2008
A nice place to sit out and watch Lincoln Road passers by. The portions are enormous. Pretty much everything is between $10-$15. If you’re extra hungry, worth a visit. I’d recommend the Navajo Sandwhich. A chicken and avacado friend behemoth!
A La Folie - Miami
Espanola Way 516, 33139 Miami
27-11-2008
Located in small street lined with European restaurants, A La Folie serves up fresh French fare, making a striking change from the standard Miami cuisine. Crepes, cheese, wine, mushrooms all served in a small, French staffed cafe. Good value, fresh and something a little different.
Monty´s Raw Bar - Miami
S. Bayshore Drive 2550, 33133 Miami
14-11-2008
This large, almost complex like arrangement of bar and restaurant areas is situated on the edge of a marina with nice views (if you like boats and stuff) over the harbour. We ate some lovely coconut battered shrimp and cracked conch. Next time we’ll try their 'famous’ stone crab and crab claws.
Van Dyke - Miami
846 Lincoln Road, Miami
13-11-2008
Relaxed atmosphere, live music and reasonable value. Located on Lincoln it’s in between a buch of other restaurants and bars but Van Dyke’s also boasts a large upstairs area with a small live music stage. Like all the other Lincoln venues, you couldn’t describe it as 'cheap’ but it’s not as expensive as some of the other locals. It’s between Van Dykes and Polar for local relaxed bars.
Aventura Mall - Miami
BISCAYNE BLVD. 19501, 33180 Miami
13-11-2008
Located North of Miami beach this mall is far smaller than the Dolphin but the Americans describe it as 'upscale’. There are huge dept stores like Macy’s and Nordstoms as well as a bunch of smaller shops such as a good Urban Outfitters. You can catch the bus from Linoln Road all the way there for $2 so it’s pretty easy to visit. Worth checking out from late December when their Christmas scenes are constructed.
Versailles - Miami
S W Eighth Street 3555, 33135 Miami
13-11-2008
Versailles is the oldest Cuban restaurant in Miami. Open 24 hours a day it’s packed with locals (always a good sign). The decor is basic (formica tables and plastic chairs) the dining is casual, but the food is amazing, not to mention cheap. You have to try the Pan Con Lechon Sandwich!
Polar Bar - Miami
Lincoln Rd 938, 33139 Miami
13-11-2008
The only sports bar on Lincoln, this bar is more downmarket than the surrounding places. Sitting outside watching assorted sports on TV is an enjoyable way to kill a sunny evening. The beer has a reasonable range (if you like Lite beers then you’ll be in your element), but most of the European stuff has been 'off’ on the nights I’ve visited. No frills night out.
