Fogg's Restaurant - Camden

18 Chalk Farm Road, Camden Town, London NW1 8AG

24-11-2011

A nice little restaurant with an eclectic menu (which you’d guess from the name) and a lovely atmosphere. I had succulent turkish sausages with a mixed root mash, and my friend had a lovely African lamb curry with apricots. Very slightly pricey for what it is (lamb curry was about £15, rather more than an Indian curry of similar size) but not incredibly expensive, which some restaurants along this stretch in Camden can be…

The Cuban - Camden

Stables Market Stables Market, Chalk Farm Road, Camden, Camden, London NW1 8AH

24-11-2011

Arriving at 7pm on a Wednesday evening to a nearly empty restaurant, to be told that if we didn’t have a reservation we weren’t sitting down is not what I wanted to hear. Clearly if we had sat down it wouldn’t have been worth it. I definitely won’t be darkening their door ever again…

Londek Cafe - Stratford

198 The Grove, Hackney, London E15 1NS

27-06-2011

A great little place which serves all of the Polish staples and then some - main meals probably won't break a fiver either! Did you know that 'Londek' is the colloquial word that Poles use to refer to London?

Belgo Noord - Camden

72 Chalk Farm Road, Chalk Farm, London NW1 8AN

07-06-2011

I too went to the launch of the Belgo June lobsterfest last night. I went to this restaurant about six months after it opened back in the early 90s (I lived in Camden Town at the time) and its rather more slick and trendy than I remember it back then! The food is typical Belgian fayre - rather unsophisticated but very tasty of course, and these guys would put any bar in Brussels to shame in terms of the selection of Belgian beers that they have available. It's definitely a beer-lovers heaven...

My review (along with some pics) is here:

Wahaca - Soho

80 Wardour St, London W1F 0TE

04-03-2011

It's difficult to describe an experience at Wahaca - just cast the idea of the bog-standard Mexican restaurants that you find around town out of your mind. There are no fake cactuses and sombreros here - just serious interior design and equally serious attention to detail with their range of mexican 'street food', equalled by a passion for sipping tequila. A visit to Wahaca is a unique experience - definitely recommended (oh and they're not incredibly expensive either)

Here's my review of the Qype tequila tasting evening we went to - it might give a bit more of a hint about what you might expect when you go there...

All Star Lanes - Bayswater

6 Porchester Gardens, Whiteleys, Bayswater, London W2 4DB

28-01-2011

I can't fault this venue at all - lovely intimate atmosphere, fantastic cocktails, a vast array of difficult to find American beers, an adventurous menu and, of course, bowling! Wonderful!

Starbucks - Mayfair

2-3 Conduit Street, London W1S 2XE

21-10-2010

Starbucks flagship UK store, this one is a little more swish than you're used to I imagine. Forget the busy, noisy Starbucks off Oxford St, head for this one. Great ambience and very comfortable - a recommended stopping point for all of the coffee afficionados out there :)

Sacred Cafe - Holloway

8 Hornsey St, Holloway, London N7 8EG

22-08-2010

A nice modern little cafe in the Highbury Studios complex just around the corner from Holloway Road tube station. I was here for the 'International Meeting of Styles' graffiti art event and they spent the whole day keeping the crowd fuelled up. Very reasonably priced coffee, cakes and sandwiches, and like its Soho sister this place has quirky religious objects scattered about.

And it also gets a big + for probably the nicest Australian barista London has ever seen!

The White Cross - Richmond

Water Lane, London TW9 1TJ

15-08-2010

I won't add much to what's been said previously, but I have discovered that during winter high tides, the White Cross actually gets cut off from the street. So bring your wellies or a full wallet to allow you to keep drinking until the river subsides again :)

Lucky Voice - Islington

173-174 Upper Street, Islington, London N1 1RG

03-06-2010

What a find - a great karaoke venue on Upper Street in Islington with an expansive bar and seating area and, nestled in the back, 7 funky karaoke rooms where you can scream and holler to your hearts content. I had a great time here as part of a Qype event, and I will say that the staff couldn't have been more friendly and attentive, which is really saying something on Upper St, believe me! They'll even make off-menu cocktails for you if you ask nicely.

As previous commenters have noted, the karaoke software really doesn't match up to the rest of Lucky Voice's image - perhaps someone should give it a bit of a makeover... :)
