The Cooperage - Newcastle upon tyne

32 Close, Newcastle upon tyne NE1 3RF

19-06-2008

Thi bar is situated on the Quayside, and is sited in one of the oldest remaining buildings. There are two bars on the ground floor and a nightclub upstairs which opens at weekends. From the outside it is noticable by it’s Tudor style appearance and it’s higgledy-piggedly mini leaning tower of Pisa-ness! They do serve bar meals through the day and early evening. My main experience is Friday nights when there is a free Reggae/Dancehall night in one of the downstairs bars, fantastic music and the best diversity around, hope to see you there

Harry Ramsdens Fish and Chips - Newcastle upon tyne

Metro Park West, Tyne and Wear, Newcastle upon tyne NE11 9XS

20-11-2007

Harry Ramsden's (Fish and Chips) reputation goes before him, and this is no let down! You can choose to eat at the Restaurant, Cafe or Take Away, all delicious. I would highly recommend the fish bites, the batter is crispy and fresh, and the chips always sparkle, none of that old chip fat taste here. The staff are friendly and willing to help. In the Restaurant you get all the trimmings, bread and butter and a pot of tea. There are often specials available in local newspapers in the form of two for one etc. or offers available on the spot. If your going to treat yourself do it in style, I can honestly say these are consistently amongst the best fish and chips around, they're not the cheapest, but good value for the quality. Free Parking. Bar calls last orders 15mins before closing.

Linus Haven't been to a Harry Ramsden's in a while. They're not that common down here in London, makes me think about goign back up north again!

Discovery Museum - Newcastle upon tyne

Blandford Square, Newcastle upon tyne NE1 4JA

20-11-2007

I home educated my children for a year and this is one of our favourite places to spend a couple of hours. The Museum is free of charge, so rather than trying to cram in loads of info. in one day you can come and go as you please. If your on a low budget then I would pack a picnic, the cafe is a wee bit pricy. The shop is also a real pull for kids but theres some lovely quirky educational toys and bits in there. Upstairs you will find a room dedicated to the pre schoolers with wet play and also our favourite; the science room, with loads of interactive displays and fun learning experiences. Fun, fun and more fun!

Fusion - Newcastle upon tyne

Higham House New Bdge St West, Newcastle upon tyne NE1 8AN

20-11-2007

Great little joint for a quiet coffee during the day, or maybe try reggae night on Wednesdays. If you like your roots, rock, reggae or a bit of dancehall give this a try. It's friendly, chilled and cultural. It's more of your jeans and t shirt than your diva dress, but if the mood takes you anything goes. The D.J's are open to requests in that genre, and play until 12. It's a little bit like just chilling out in your mates living room, easy skanking!

manatthewindow Hi there do you know any contacts for the reggae club in Fusion as we are looking for a stop over gig to play friday 15th july the night before we play bomfest in barnsley regards kyle www.myspace.com/manatthewindow manatthewindow@btinternet.com

Lau's Buffet King Restaurant - Newcastle upon tyne

44-55 Stowell Street, Newcastle upon tyne NE1 4YB

20-11-2007

At Lau's Chinese Restaurant theirs always a good range at the buffet, which is constantly topped up. Soups for starts, huge range of main courses including chips, chicken nuggets and lots of bits for picky little ones, followed by fruit or icecream, there's something for everyone. If you can get there before 4pm its only £5.50 for adults and £2.99 for children which is great value, drinks not included. This is great for anyone who has a child who doesn't like to sit still for too long, they get to move around, look and try lots of different foods, and help themselves to icecream. It's a really affordable treat for the family, however not recommended for romance! Prices go up slightly over the evening. Chopsticks available.

newcastle city pool - Newcastle upon tyne

northumberland road, Newcastle upon tyne NE1 8SE

20-11-2007

Hidden in the basement of Newcastle City Pool is one of the city's original Turkish baths. At £6.95 for a Turkish and a swim it's an absolute must. The changing rooms are much like I imagine the Orient Express to be, small two bedded cubicles, wood clad with lamps, perfect for pampering and chilling. There are three different suana rooms and a steam room which all steeped in character and history. Towels are available to hire, or you can take your own. Mon,Wed and Friday are men only Tues, Thurs and Sat for the ladies. Closed on Sundays. You can book in for a massage at an extra cost, and you can also hire it out for pampering parties! Everyone should try this, relaxing, atmospheric, friendly and steeped in character and history.
