ayr beach - Ayr

Ayr, Scotland KA7 1DU

17-03-2009

It’s a nice enough looking beach, although I am always surprised to hear it is aparently one of the cleanest beaaches! I personally, wouldn’t go for a swim if someone paid me.

Nice to walk along and catch the odd sunset. Good for dogs and horses and building sandcastles :) (beware of the jellyfish). Packed in the summer (especially with people from Glasgow), There is a good kids park and a couple wee cafes/ shops. Would avoid the shore at nights on a weekend.

Babys Castle - Ayr

15 Alloway Street, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1SP

17-03-2009

Good pram section upstairs, it’s difficult to get proper look at them though, as there is alot of them in a relatively small space. Has a nursery section too, although there are only a few cots on display. If you have a buggy you will have to leave it downstairs, the shop is quiet and the staff are friendly so is not too bad i guess. Some things can be pricey, but there is the odd bargain in there too.

Downstairs sells babyclothes, they are lovely, but quite pricey, more for special occasions.

Toy Town - Ayr

21-25 Newmarket Street, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1LL

17-03-2009

Good selection of toys for all ages. The staff are friendly and have good product knowledge.

The prices are alot cheaper here than other stores - especially for bigger items such as prams, cots, even climbing frames etc. If you have seen something you like elsewhere it’s definately worth a look here to see if its cheaper. If they do not have something in stock, they will usually be able to order it in for you quite quickly.

W H Smith - Ayr

198-200 High Street, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1RH

17-03-2009

I guess it’s what you’d expect from WHSmith. The Post Office is now at the back, so can be quite busy up there.

I think there is a major problem with this shop though. It is split over two levels, magazines, books, juice, sweets etc on the ground, with stationary and everything else upstairs. There is NO disabled access to the upstairs. Surely this is in breach of the DDA or something? Anyway, it does mean that if you have any mobility problems or if you have a baby you cannot shop upstairs in WHSmith. Not good if you want something thats up there.

Argos - Ayr

26 Carrick Street, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1NS

It can get very busy in here, often walk past and see people cramming in to steal the next available catalouge. Maybe they could do with re-arragnging the shop or something. They have a quick pay thing which is good, just pay by card, no need to que for a till.

Staff are not so good. I bought some stuff last year, I was pregnant with another child in the buggy, when I asked if I could get a hand to carry some stuff out to the car (parked just opposite) they refused. I ended up having to do 3 journeys in and out to the car to get all my shopping… it was either that or leave my child unattended in the car or in the shop while i carried everything out. I know it’s not their job, but it would have taken one person 2mins max to help me out, it wasn’t exaclty busy. whatever happened to customer service eh?

So, don’t expect any help (I dont think it would make any difference if you were a wee old lady with a zimmer to be honest). Either take someone with you, or shop online.

The West Kirk (J D Wetherspoons) - Ayr

58a Sandgate, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1BX

17-03-2009

Cheap drink, thats about all this place has going for it! Sometimes it feels as though you are in a coffee shop due to the lack of music. however, I do think this is better than being blasted with music so loud you cannot talk to anyone. It does mean there is no atmosphere in here though, but with the drinks being so cheap you probably won’t notice after a while.

Minishant Tandoori - Minishant

22 Ayr Road, Maybole, Scotland KA19 8EX

The food was delicious, different to other Indians I have been to, but very good! The restaraunt is in an old church, the seating area is upatairs, the beams and stained glass windows are a real feature.

The head chef came out to speak to us personally, and was very nice. He also gave us some recomendations for our next visit.

After our meal, we were not rushed and were encouraged to stay for a couple of drinks. They kept giving us free drinks too… im not complaining!

The staff were friendly, the food was good and it is all in a nice setting ans reasonably priced. It’s a bit out of the way, but worth a trip i’d say.

Harbour Views - Ayr

23 South Harbour Street, Ayr, Scotland KA7 1JA

15-03-2009

I always get my chinese from here, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. They deliver in the time they say they will (even on busy nights), sometimes quicker, I don’t think they have ever kept me waiting for ages.

Balbir's Restaurant - Glasgow

7 Church Street, Glasgow, Scotland G11 5JP

15-03-2009

The food here is very good, The service is great and the staff are friendly.

When we went (for lunch), they were closed, they did not open till 4pm. They were holding a private function, but the manager had seen us peering through the door and welcomed us in anyway.

Although there was a funtion on (with ALOT of people- all dancing at one point!), we felt as though we were the only people there. The service we recieved was great and the food was lovely.

Catch 22 - Glasgow

158-166 Bath Street, Glasgow, Scotland G2 4TB

The food here was lovely. The menue varies, depending on what fish has been freshly caught. I had a starter and a main, bread was served while we ordered. The portions were just right, and were well presented (although I did struggle to finish my main course!).

The restaraunt is well laid out, and has a good atmosphere. The staff are friendly, very professional and the service is very efficent. I would say the prices are reasonable for the level of service and quality of food - not cheap, but worth it.

The very back of the restaraunt can be seperated off and hired out for private functions… great for a special occasion!

We went on a Saturday night, it was busy, but there was still a relaxed atmosphere. Definately book in advance to avoid disapointment.

There is also an up-market bar right beside the restaraunt which is good for drinks afterwards! And you don’t need to go outside to get to it, so no need to get all the coats and brollies sorted…

definately worth a visit, especially if you love seafood
