Wavendon Golf Centre - Wavendon

Lower End Road, Milton Keynes MK17 8DA

25-11-2008

Wavendon Golf Centre is situated just outside the village of Wavendon, around a 10 minute drive from central Milton Keynes. It is made up of a nine hole Par 3 course and a regulation eighteen hole course on the opposite site of the road to the clubhouse. The clubhouse has a pro shop and a good bar where you can have a relaxing drink after your game. There is also a driving range accessible via the clubhouse. I would highly recommend the Par 3 course for beginners and for those looking for a quick round. The prices are generally cheaper than most other golf courses in the area. The full course is also good, although perhaps not so challenging for more advanced golfers.

Milton Keynes Dons - Milton Keynes

The National Hockey Centre, Silbury Boulevard, Milton Keynes MK10 9BA

25-11-2008

There was a certain amount of scepticism surrounding Wimbledon’s move to Milton Keynes and their ‘rebranding’ as the Milton Keynes Dons. However, the move seems to have been a good thing (for the people of Milton Keynes anyway). The closest professional league football side was Northampton which is half an hour away in the car. The Dons stadium is only a five minute drive from my doorstep and it seems like the club have drawn in a number of football fans from Milton Keynes. The stadium is fantastic and worthy of Premier League football. Match days are well organised and the facilities (toilets, bars, food sellers etc.) are excellent. Kids now have a local team to support instead of picking one of the top four Premier League teams.

Cash Converters - Bletchley

57-59 Queensway, Milton Keynes MK2 2DR

24-11-2008

I generally try to avoid central Bletchley like the plague. Cash Converters is set up to exploit the unemployed of Bletchley through offering to buy their used goods for next to nothing. I took a DVD player that was only a year old and was working perfectly and after the guy looked at the condition (which was as good as new) he offered me £5 and acted as if he was doing me a favour. I said I’d rather take it to the charity shop next door and walked out. Cash Converters is an alternative to selling your good online, but you get about a tenth of the amount you would selling it online. Stay away unless you’re desperate!

Debenhams - Milton Keynes

38 Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes MK9 3GA

24-11-2008

Debenhams is a huge department store spread over three floors (?) and offering a huge number of products ranging from clothing to electrical items. The entrance from Midsummer Place takes you into the cosmetics department which is a bit of a maze made up of women wearing too much makeup. You then get into men’s clothing where there is a wide range of brands such as Ben Sherman, Fred Perry and Raine. Downstairs is the women’s clothing which I try to avoid and upstairs there is a café/restaurant for those of you who need refreshment, as well as their home and kitchenware. A good store with a vast range of products, I highly recommend visiting when they have their 20% days/weekends.

Staples - Milton Keynes

1 Grafton Gate East, Milton Keynes MK9 1AH

24-11-2008

Staples is located opposite the Hockey Stadium in central Milton Keynes and is a large store offering all sorts of products that your typical office would use. They sell stationary, paper, computers and office furniture amongst other things. Parking is usually easy as there are dedicated bays outside the store. However, they are usually fuller during the week as local businesses use them. The prices are reasonable, you’d be hard pressed to find the same products cheaper elsewhere. I do agree with the other reviewers about the staff, they don’t seem to be that interested in being there and aren’t overly helpful.

W M Morrison Supermarkets - Westcroft

Barnsdale Drive, Milton Keynes MK4 4DD

24-11-2008

I don’t visit Morrisons too often as it is on the other side of Milton Keynes compared to where I live. However, when I’m in the area I do make the effort to go into the store as they often have some great offers on food or the various other products on sale in the store. As they are smaller than competitors such as Tesco or Asda, they obviously need to offer some deals to entice people into the store. Their fresh fruit and baked goods are excellent value for money and always taste great. If it was closer to me then I’d probably make it my regular supermarket.

Giraffe - Milton Keynes

39-41 Silbury Arcade, Milton Keynes MK9 3AG

24-11-2008

Giraffe is a fairly new restaurant in Milton Keynes Shopping Centre, it is in a good location in the centre which makes it extremely popular with shoppers. There can be queues at peak times such as weekends and Thursday evenings when the centre is open for late night shopping. The staff are very friendly, they appear to be ultra-cool and hip, trying to give it a laid back feel. The food is excellent though and even basics such as a burger and fries are extremely tasty and not just ordinary like many other competitors offerings. The prices are not too bad, I would highly recommend going here after a busy shopping session for a quick bite to eat at a reasonable price.

Wagamama Restaurant - Milton Keynes

Unit 7 Sunset Walk, Milton Keynes MK9 3PD

24-11-2008

Wagamama’s is a fairly new restaurant in central Milton Keynes Shopping Centre. It’s at the Marks and Spencer end of the centre and so attracts a fair number of shoppers at peak times. There is usually a queue outside the shop at weekends, so be prepared to wait for a seat if you go then. You sit on long benches to give it that authentic Japanese feel, maybe not ideal if you are after some privacy with your fellow diner(s). The food is fantastic if you’re into Japanese cuisine, I would highly recommend it. Service can be slow, perhaps they could do with employing a few more waiters?

willen lake - Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes MK10 9BA

24-11-2008

Willen Lake is a scenic area of Milton Keynes, around a ten minute drive from the city centre. It makes for a good walk round the lake in the summer months, I wouldn’t be to keen to go over the winter. There are several bars and restaurants situated around the lake which offer cheap meals that are ok if you’re not too fussy. Obviously those of you into water sports will be keen to go here, you can do all sorts out on the lake from canoeing to jet skiing. There is also a mini golf green, assault course and a playground for the kids.

City Limits Bowling - Milton Keynes

602 Marlborough Gate, Milton Keynes MK9 3XS

24-11-2008

I would say that you should only go here if you have pre-booked a lane. The venue is small in comparison to the Megabowl near Argos. However, the décor is good and the bowling machines are state of the art. This all comes at a premium though and you will pay more for a couple of games of bowling than you would at the Megabowl. There is a small bar and various games machines outside the bowling alley which could entertain you for a while. The staff there have never been that great, I usually get served by a Vicky Pollard type teenage girl who looks like she can’t be bothered to be there. It is usually busy, so maybe they are just run off their feet.
