West Heath Shopping Centre - Congleton

Holmes Chapel Road, West Heath, Congleton, Cheshire CW12 4NB

16-07-2008 (atualizado em 23-07-2008)

*Apologies to anyone who has previously read this I put Indian instead of Chinese restaurant - there is only a Chinese restuarant/takeaway called the 'Happy Garden’

There have been countless plans to change the precinct into another facility - possibly something useful. Only some of the shops there proove worth going to the rest - can’t see how they are making profit.

It has recently had a refurbishment but not that you could really tell by the vile 1970s style toilet blocks and falling down apartment above the falling apart pub.

There are a few shops such as somerfield, softwalkers and the newsagents, a chippy, subway sandwich shop, an Indian restaurant, betfred, ceramic pottery workshop and a newly opened vets. The car park is ample yet not enough parent and child spaces in comparison to more than enough disabled parking spaces.

There has always been naff security on site which you cannot rely on clearing the troublesome chavs who congregate or pathetically have go in subway in groups of 50 just to get a donut…

Alright if you just need the basics (bread/milk) or a quick sandwich but not much else really. It should have been changed into a much needed up to date leisure centre (one of the suggested development plans years ago)

wendy01 has the chineese been changed to indian? or maybe theres both . its still crap they should put a primark there

Kings Pub - Congleton

1 High Street, Congleton, Cheshire CW12 1BN

17-07-2008

An average pub - typical customers you’d find in any pub in Congleton (not a family pub atmosphere)

The atmosphere however can be very lively especially when they hold theme nights are advertise offers like £1 per pint punters roll in from everywhere.

Inside is fairly modernised but decorated to give it an older feel. The staff can sometimes be friendly yet sometimes you find yourself being served by a complete letch.

Drinks can be fairly cheap compared to other pubs in the town. There is plenty of seating on an average night however when an event takes place you are lucky if you can get through the doorway. Otherwise during the day its pretty much dead.

New Vic Theatre - Newcastle

Etruria Road, Staffordshire, Newcastle, Staffordshire ST5 0JG

16-07-2008

A lovely family theatre situated in Newcastle under Lyme. It offers a main theatre where all performances are held and a separate building where the youth theatre group create separate pieces.

You are greeted into a friendly reception area all be it a bit 70s-esque but it gives it a pleasant atmosphere. There are several members of staff located near the foyer who greet you when you come in regardless of whether or not your just passing - always nice to see.

There are numerous refreshment stands downstairs near the ticket outlets yet upstairs there is a main bar area. The bar area is a perfect place to chat and mingle before you go into see the play/performance. It also gives a place to have a breather during the interval and perhaps wake yourself up a bit if need be!

They have held numerous events on catering for different age groups and genres. There are large numbers of childrens theatre productions (and pantos at christmas!) that come to the new vic that guarantee the audience getting involved having fun. They also show musical events particularly different orchestras from across the country.

Prices are good value for money as the seats are set out perfectly as to enjoy a good view of the stage. The whole of the theatre is kept clean and tidy. Even if you are not a regular theatre goer there is always something on that tickles your fancy!

Alton Towers - Stafford

Alton, Stafford, Staffordshire ST10 4DB

16-07-2008

One of the best theme parks in Britain which even has its own accommodation and water theme park on the same site. There are large carparks to accommodate what feels like Britain itself so make sure you get there as early as possible to get in before the rush!

There are phenomenal rides for different adrenaline level junkies which are separated into different themed areas. The grounds are well kept and create a family atmosphere everywhere. It is not just a theme park for teenagers/young adults it has something for everyone.

There is a large kids section with smaller rides and activities that are easily enjoyed and do not cost a great deal to enjoy. Prices for tickets are fairly expensive but you do get a lot for your money.

The hotel has its own spa which offers top quality spa treatments for everyone at affordable prices. Maybe after a days excitement you can come back and have a facial before your trip home

The water park isn’t as amazing as the themepark itself yet it doesn’t target my age group as of such. It has a huge indoor climbing frame/activity area which is great fun to explore for everyone in the family and can be accessed by the main pool itself. The water is very clean and poolside is well kept. There are a number of water rides consisting of slides and rapids yet be warned peak season there is usually a large queue!

Food and drink for both the water/main theme park is fairly expensive for the bog standard fast food but you are able to bring your own (providing your willing to lug it 10,000 miles!)

A fantastic day out which is always being modernised and built up to provide even more for you to do.

Selfridges & Co - Manchester

1 Exchange Square, Manchester, Greater Manchester M3 1BD

16-07-2008

Fantastic darlings! One of the best of the shopping world offering an amazing range of designer goods from all areas of the globes. Obviously with designer goods you get designer prices so it weeds out the weak and sells to only the hardened shoppers out there.

The store itself is huge and beautifully laid out giving that designer edge and quality atmosphere. There is a fabolous beauty area with top quality products and highly trained beauticians ready to sell and recommend.

Selfridges also offers other items such as toys/books and food which like the clothes is of top quality and price. They cater for all ages (obviously not the customers as much) but provide the latest celeb childrens toy etc

On the top floor they offer a large amazing cafe/restaurant with food even Gordon Ramsay will be amazed by. It has large windows down one side where you can watch the world go by below you whilst sipping on the finest coffee.

The staff suit the shop as they are highly efficient, polite and very helpful only offering you the best you can afford.

What more can I say!

little moreton hall - Congleton

congleton, Congleton, Cheshire CW12 4SD

16-07-2008

Not for all walks of life but is a lovely day out for most. Its a large black and white Tudor house (forgive me if the time periods wrong I’m not so good with history!) just off the A34. You park in the wooded car park and cross a lovely little bridge to get to the main grounds themselves. There is a little river that passes around the house with fish and ducks you can spot which are a good turning point for young children.

You then enter a square where you can notice the fantastic old craftmenship on the outside of the building. The cobbled square houses the icecream stall, national trust shop and toilets.

There are tours offered around the house however you can walk around in your own time if you wanted. Tour guides are usually dressed in costume (there are numbers of costume days throughout the year) to add to the atmosphere.

Inside is as beautiful as the outside with the fabolous stain glass windows and original tudor furniture. The top floor has a large room which used to be a drawing/play room. The floor in this is famously uneven so be aware its not your legs that have given way below you!

The grounds also hold outdoor theatre nights in tradition of the historical era it represents hosting particular favourites such as Romeo & Juliet. These are lovely to watch just difficult to prepare for in the British weather!

The Staffordshire Knot - Congleton

15 West Street, Congleton, Cheshire CW12 1JN

16-07-2008

Like most pubs in congleton its pretty basic and has the same sort of people visiting them. It offers a small beer garden which consists of a couple of benchs right next to the road.

The room inside isn’t a lot but most of the time its rather dead so doesn’t seem to matter. The atmosphere is rather dull as custom is fairly limited most nights of the week. However the staff are lovely and serve you with a smile.

There is a pool table which is inconveniently placed in the smallest room - even if you are just watching you have to duck and dodge the cue! It is also placed right in front of the dismal toilets so again causes a few problems.

Prices of drinks are average nothing too expensive but not an ideal family pub which can be located a bit further outside of congleton.

Kidsgrove Ski Centre - Kidsgrove

Bathpool Park, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire ST7 4EF

16-07-2008

Friendly staff, one outdoor slope.. an average experience if you simply want to practise before your skiing holiday or a laugh with the family.

It has a ski lift that takes you to different levels on the slope for different abilities where you can ski down the dry slope hoping not to crash into the bottom padded barrier!

There are tutors available to book but as the site is small spaces and dates are limited to make sure you book plenty of time in advance. Tutors are lovely to work with as they make the day enjoyable and join in the giggles when someone in your party falls over!

The Potteries Shopping Centre - Stoke-on-Trent

City Centre, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire ST1 1PS

16-07-2008

An average shopping centre catering for different styles, price ranges and purposes. It offers a number of both designer shops to the bottom floor with the bargain finding market place.

Prices are usually cheap in most shops however the designer shops are obviously a little bit more pricey - expected. There are a variety of shops available from clothing to household to electronics.

Set on three different floors with different accessibility so all needs are met for you will find an afternoons worth of activity. There are places where you can sit and eat all be it a bit expensive for what they are and where they are situated but do offer quality food.

All staff are friendly and efficient as well as helpful in the shops you visit. There are stalls in the main areas of the centres which hold hair straightening sessions, makeovers etc.

Be warned there are pesky sellers that have stalls set up on the different floors but you can avoid them fairly well.

The car park is a multistorey and can be accessed by lift so pushchairs and wheelchairs can easily get from one to the other without hassle. It is a pay for ticket car park which can be redeemed by the machines near the lifts where it will tell you how much you owe on your token.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach - Blackpool

525 Ocean Boulevard, Promenade, Blackpool FY4 1EZ

16-07-2008

A fantastic fun filled day out for everyone. Don’t let the expensive ticket prices put you off as there is plenty to do to get your moneys worth in the park. There a number of rides predominately water based as its right on the beach at Blackpool.

Again it fulfills the need of different theme park goers so it caters for everybody who comes. The rides vary in quality as some have been there for donkies years but nevertheless provide a barrel of laughs.

There is a kids area not as large as what you’d find at its rivals Alton Towers etc but does cater for younger families who are unable to experience the larger rides.

The infamous big dipper is a must do in the park as not only does it provide you with a stomach twisting ride but you get to see the lovely view (very briefly) when you reach the top!

Once you have visited the park you must have a walk along the seafront. Not only does it calm the kids down from an action packed day it gives you chance to chill out.

Be warned of the gypsies who try and sell you stuff on the seafront (often believe they have cursed you if you don’t buy anything but pay no attention as they look loaded with dosh anyways!)
