Times Square - Nova Iorque

Times Square, 580 1Ave, New York

19-06-2008

Ok not to dampen everyones idea but I hate times square, go there just to see it .. cause its obnoxious and decadent. True craphole america at its best with disney and chain restaurants. I lived in NYC awhile back and the locals avoid it like the plague. I wont knock its shock appeal. To truly see new york hit the train down to astor place or south broadway, or better yet get off the train at astor/ stmarks place. Just walk down broadway thru china town to south broadway soho area..

Lovecraft Tattoo - Nova Iorque

Whalley Ave. 1358, New Haven CT, 06515 New York

This place is amazing. The best bunch of proffessional artists in the biz that ive found, yes i said artists, these guys shy away from any advertising, conventions, or magazines. They truly see tattooing as an artform and treat it as such. They only do original work and are very reasonably priced. Each has a private room and pays extra detai to cleanliness and quality of both their shop and machines. I highly reccomend this shop and its artists, Christian has done pretty much all my work and i will never go to anyone else. Other than being an amazing group of artists they are really friendly good quality people that are fun to talk to and hangout with. Their website doesnt truly showcase the quality of their work but they dont update it that often since the shop is really busy..Expect a good month or so for an appointment, sometimes longer. Lets just say i drive 4-1/2 hours just to get there and its worth it.

Bar - Nova Iorque

Crown st. 254, New Haven, 06511 New York

16-06-2008

This place has a dancefloor in the back, but im just gonna pretend its not there. The main reason to ever go here is the premesis brewed beer and pizza. Yes the pizza ! which is the best ive ever had. Now this pizza is the thin crust square kind so dont get confused with the usual ghetto pizza on the corner. Now the main two rooms the bruroom and the frontroom. Both have 20ft ceilings and are open to the street, one with floor to ceiling 6×9 windows the other with a garage door that is opened on nice days. Like i said im not one for the dj room but i cant really knock it either it packs the house. Mainly though show up during the day and have an amazing beer and the best pizza evah!.. there is both a beer and pizza menu on the website.

movietown - Philadelphia

N. Hanover st. 700, Elizabethtown, 17022 Philadelphia

Ok well this is just a movie theatre but i love movies.. This place rocks for soo many reasons.. Firstly tix are cheap. only about $8 bucks adult. Secondly its a small theatre but clean and totally new. I love this place because its rarely crowded and if it is believe it or not they will open an extra screen just so you arent packed in and uncomfortable. Oh and dont let me forget the stadium seats so noones head is ever in the way. A little bonus is that the arms fold up and you can basically lay on a couch to watch the movie. Good times for the big screen when most places are dirty, crowded, and way overpriced.

Angry Young and Poor - Philadelphia

West Orange st. 356, 17603 Philadelphia

This is your place for anything rock, and i mean punk rock.. from studs to leather to tees. they even still have some records!. Jeff and Andrea started this business years ago and you can still catch them out drinkin when they gots a sitter for the kiddos. This is the real deal, support the local scene and independent owners. They do most of their business through the website which they still operate themselves. These guys always contribute to the local bands and artists which says alot about their character and what they satnd for. Dont forget to check out..http://www.dutchlandrollers.com/. and Fujiama Mama. aka Andrea.

Alois/ Bubes Brewery - Philadelphia

North Market St. 102, 17552 Philadelphia

15-06-2008

Ok this review is related to the Bubes review. Now unlike Bubes this bar is awesome!.. Scott the bartender is very friendly and takes care of his customers. The bar or should i say martini lounge is in the old hotel part of the building. Sporting flapper hey day decor and an ancient disco ball old antique furniture and jazz bands every saturday including ..http://www.myspace.com/thereeseproject
This bar is above and beyond a whole different world compared to the one it is attached to . I highly reccomend this bar for both the ambiance and quality of service. Which brings me to the beer they brew. Unlike the other bar the kegs are right below this bar and the glasses are kept very clean (thanks Scott).. which means the beer is fresh and tastings are encouraged. And believe it or not they actually brew some really good beers. Overall ..show up late have a couple cocktails and enjoy this little gem that is usually overlooked for the loud obnoxious craphole its connected to.

Bubes Brewery/Alois - Philadelphia

North Market St. 102, 17552 Philadelphia

15-06-2008

Ok first let me say this is basically two seperate bars under the same owner at different ends of the same buildning. That said.. Bubes sucks!.. i have no idea why people go there the food is horrible and its run by the twenty somethings behind the bar. The pint glasses smell like dirty water and the place is really dirty. I have never been there when there WASNT some kind of drama usually perpetuated by someone on the staff. Wether it be some ego driven i work here or i just dont like you.. something is always in the air. They brew their own beer but see the Alois review for that. Other than that this is a place to be avoided.. cranky locals who think they are cool because they go there and unproffesional staff that make you wanna double check your tab… now im not saying all of them.. there are some good guys behind the bar and they know who they are.. but def a place to avoid.. go to Alois .. which is my next review

The Tilted Kilt - Philadelphia

East Main St. 112, 17552 Philadelphia

15-06-2008

This is my local hang. Basically its two blocks from my house. Really good people that love to see you walk in the door. Above average bar fare, sandwiches, burgers, subs, wings etc. all very reasonable around $7 bucks. They just opened up the new didning room which is nonsmoking and the new patio. Jules and Nichole are awesome and fun to talk to when you are sittin having a pint. Smithwicks on tap and heavy 7&7s. No bells and whistles but if youre lookin for a nice place to have a pint chat up with the tenders grab a bite and leave in a good mood.. well this is the place. Quiet and personal they have occasional bands and do the fun trivia on Saturdays. What can i say its where i go to get my drunk on.

Quips Pub - Philadelphia

New Holland Ave. 457, 17602 Philadelphia

By far the best place for food in the whole county. I have been going here for years and have never been dissapointed. The atmosphere is comfortable with wood floors and the bar/dining area being combined. The staff is super friendly and remembers you especially if you tip, actually its the only place in this area that actually treats you better when you are a good tipper. e/a i never wait for a seat get fast service and never wait for another beer. Not your usual fare either with daily specials created for just that nite by the chef who is really underapreciated by this area and homemade desserts. Very good beer selection with lots of imports frowning on domestic crap beers. which is nice considering the usual swill the locals drink. Affordable with a usual couple spending about $80 bucks including appetiser, beers, dinner ,and dessert. Idrink alot so it could be cheaper ..

theskully well seeing as how they dont tip where you are you might not understand.. you get regular great service for everyone. but in the states if you tip you expect extra special treatment. here people only get paid about 4bucks an hour and live off their tips. so its a symbiotic relationship between customer and server. some servers expect big tips but give crappy service. thats not how it works over here.so when you do tip well you expect to be treated better than someone who doesnt . thats not to say they treat anyone badly.

mumbojumbo Apparently layersoflife has never worked in the restaurant industry or they wouldn’t have written something so ignorant.
