La Zucca Magica - Le Port de Nice
4 bis Quai Papacino, 06300 Nice
07-08-2008
I love the concept of this restaurant no meat but cheese not only brilliant but delicious as well
Technically I haven't eaten here but the NY times posted an artcle about La Zucca Magica and a few recipes
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/06/dining/06mini.html?_r=1...
and it sounded so amazing I just had to have the risotto wrapped in chard.
It's true I'm a pretty good cook but even I was surprised at how amazingly good this dish turned out -- heavenly! And I have a bunch of tomatoes ripening out in the garden as we speak so tonight we will be having the tomatoes stuffed with pasta salad.
I can't wait to visit the chefs Marco Folicaldi and Rossella Bolmida and tell them how much I love them.
Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe - Oakland
Hollis St 4081, 94608 Oakland

One of the many Theme-based eateries in the BA; I guess every town has got to go through this period at some point in time (the Slaughtered lamb in Greenwich village, comes to mind --unpleasant memories.) I just wish that the BA could relegate theirs to the outer suburbs, because the last thing I want to stumble across is yet another mediocre overpriced theme diner.
Art's Crab Shak - Oakland
Broadway 4031, 94611 Oakland
03-08-2008
This place cracks me up. I mean it only has 2 good points -- the crab (yummy) and the fact that you go back 40 years in time every time you walk in (and yet it is not a theme bar -- how cool is that?!). While the service is horrible (I was actually asked by one waitress to pay the bill before they would serve the food, seriously!) the bartendress mixes some hell’a good drinks. Order a fuzzy cocktail order the crab but stay away from the other dishes (they are just not worth the space they take up)
Wilma's Catfish Kitchen - Oakland
San Pablo Ave 6037, 94608 Oakland
03-08-2008
When I first passed this place I thought it might be a seafood version of Flints (may it rest in peace) or an alternative to the Black Muslim bakery (may it rest in peace) down the street -- but it’s not!!! For one thing it is pretty expensive $10 for a catfish sandwich. For another it is just not any good -- old stale catfish.
why do the good die young?
Restaurante Dona Tomas - Oakland
Telegraph Ave 5004, North Oakland, 94609 Oakland
03-08-2008
I have to admit I’m not a fan of Dona Tomas. It’s owned by the same people to own Tacubaya at the Fourth Street Shopping mall only Dona Tomas has more of a sit down restaurant feel but it has the same “yeah this food should be fresh especially for the price but it all tastes pre-packaged.” This is the place to go if you like “watered down Mexican food for white people or for people who don’t like Mexican food.” The drinks are pretty and pretty good but because I’m cheap I prefer to get drinks at the local (real) dive bars down the street.
Clown Bar - Oberkampf
114 Rue Amelot, 75011 Paris
19-07-2008
Brilliant! I so love the concept although I’m a little afraid of how scary I would find the clowns after a few drinks.
Cathédrale Notre Dame - Ile de la Cité
6 parvis Notre-Dame, place Jean-Paul II, Ile de la Cité, 75004 Paris

for a non-religious person like myself I’m always fascinated by how much time I spend in Churches when I’m in Paris. that said it is the crypt that gets me excited at Cathedrale Notre Dame de Paris
Le Lounche - Rambuteau Francs Bourgeois
18 18, Rue des Coutures St-Gervais, 75003 Paris
19-07-2008
A very nice rather modern cafe/bistro. A great place to meet a friend eat a bit and have a glass or two of their nice house wine.
Léon de Bruxelles - Bastille
3 Boulevard Beaumarchais, 75004 Paris
19-07-2008
This is the first place I had mussels -- and it was love at first bite. True they are a chain and now that I’ve had more than my fair share of these mollusks I realize that Léon de Bruxelles may not be that fabulous they are still very good and not too expensive.
Miller et Bertaux - Quartier Saint Gervais
17 Rue Ferdinand Duval, 75004 Paris
19-07-2008
I’m not a fashion whore but if I was Miller et Bertaux would be my home everything they design is amazing!
