Bank Current Accounts Blog - Bow

Flat 25, Parkview Court Flat 25, Parkview Court, Bow, London e33an

16-12-2011

Fully fledged blog offering a great way for different consumers to share their opinions on different financial products right across the UK. There will be more and more information added over time regarding different bank current accounts in the UK and the website should help you to relevant information on all the different organisations who now offer all of these current accounts.

There is interesting information on building society accounts but the key focus is on all those different current accounts which most of us have, be it issued from a UK bank or one of the online companies who now are involved as well.

If you, like so many others, are unsure as to what current account to go for then this blog may help you to find different resources that themselves will help you to compare the best options and find the right one for you.

It is important to remember that this website is not offering qualified advice of any sort, and is merely offering a channel for consumers to share their own experiences with different UK bank current accounts together.

Sherpas - Shanghai

Shanghai

24-03-2009

This is a delivery service covering most of central Shanghai offering food delivery from many restaurants, cafes and delis around Shanghai.

Sherpas is a life-saver for many foreigners who cannot speak Chinese but want some food relatively quickly. For me, it is a great alternative to the usual suspects of KFC, McDonalds et al, when the heavens open across Shanghai, and you can’t bear to leave your flat. It is also useful for those who have limited choice in the area of Shanghai that they live.

The choice on offer is varied and of good quality. My favourites include Vedas, an Indian restaurant, and New Age Veggie. The service is efficient and friendly and you can order in English or Chinese, by MSN or phone.

My only gripe, and the reason for not reaching five stars, is the fact that delivery charge can be as much as 45MRB, depending on where you live in relation to the restaurant.

Yu Garden - Shanghai

Fang Bang Road, Quartier vieille ville, Shanghai

24-03-2009

The area around Yu Garden has a number of tourist spots, so i would leave a few hours to take everything in.

The architecture around this area is beautiful and well worth a visit, but i would suggest going at non-peak times if possible. I went during Saturday afternoon and felt like i was in a Chinese Rugby scrum. There are also some interesting cheap food stalls to try out. Fried Tofu for example may poison the Shanghai air, but is a tasty snack to eat.

Cú Chi Tunnel - Ho Chi Minh City

Phu Hiep, Phu My Hung Cú ., Cú Chi Dist., Ho Chi Minh City

05-02-2009

This was a good day trip, a little way from Saigon. In the morning we went to the interesting Temple, see photos. After that we got a tour of the interesting tunnels, plus the opportunity to fire an AK47 which was great fun.

The tunnels were ingeniously designed and an interesting way to experience the Vietnam War. Its one of the main trips to do in Saigon, and worth the trip. I found the war museum in the city a little too sombre, but this was more fun. Perhaps more suited for kids than the museum.

Chenghuangmiao - Shanghai

Anren Jie, Nanshi, Shanghai

22-11-2008

Chenghuangmiao area is the oldest city area in Shanghai. When the govenment decided to rebuild it to a Chinese traditional shopping area, many citizens who had being living there for generations had to move away, and now most of them live in Pudong new district

I found this area of Shanghai quite interesting as there were many things to see in this part. Best known is Chenghuangmiao, or 'Temple of the City God’ which is a good place to both shop and enjoy traditional Chinese architecture.

Among the highlights is a traditional Teahouse and several fish ponds surrounding attractive buildings. There are also some nice places to eat some local snacks such as Fried Tofu and Barbecue Squid.

The popularity of this place, though, was also its downfall when i visited. There were so many people in the tight streets that we moved on after an hour to less popular sites close by. I would therefore recommend coming here in the week instead, if you have the choice.

Taipingqiao Park - Shanghai

Zizhong Lu 1, Luwan, Shanghai

21-11-2008

Yet another park in this area of Shanghai, but one of the better ones, certainly. It’s center piece is a long, snaking lake which is lined by pretty potted plants. There are also plenty of shrubs dotted about to offer a little secluded moment with a loved one.

Due to its location near the Memorial House of the First National Congess of the Communist Party, though, it is very popular and offers little chance for respite.

Still, pretty none-the-less and worth checking out if you’re in this area for any of the other tourist attractions.

Huaihai Park - Shanghai

Huaihai Zhonglu 200, Shanghai

21-11-2008

This is a relatively unknown park in central Shanghai, close to the Nanshi Old Town.

It is slightly overshadowed by other larger parks but serves an important role for the local community, particularly older people. There are many facilities for them to keep fit and to gamble, which seem their main pastimes here. I include a video of some locals singing which is also very common in Chinese parks, as well as practising Tai Chi.

I quite liked the park but it is really too small if you want somewhere quiet to relax.

Memorial House of the First National Congress of the Communist Party - Shanghai

Taicang Lu, Shanghai

21-11-2008

Another site in the Luwan area of Shanghai is the Memorial House of the First National Congress of the Communist Party. I believe this is where the first meeting took place with a view to beginning the whole Communist vibe, which eventually encompassed all of China!

The building is now a celebrated tourist attraction, surrounded by bars and foreigners - this perhaps sums up the NEW China best. I expect i will go inside the Memorial House at some point, but it is not such an interesting place to visit, from what i have heard, it is just important symbolically.

The Site of the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China has received 10 million visitors from home and abroad since its opening 50 years ago.

YaKeXi - Shanghai

Xikang Lu 379, Shanghai

15-11-2008

My first experience of Muslim food in China, and i was not disappointed. The Northern Eastern province of Xinjiang is well represented by this Shanghai restaurant close to my apartment.

I quickly realised that this was not a truly muslim restaurant, and ran by some Han Chinese people rather than traditional Xinjiang. Indeed alcohol is served freely here. Whilst the menu is adjusted to the needs of Han Chinese, there is still plenty of traditional Xinjiang food to make a trip here both an experience and a pleasure.

We chose some meat skewers with Naang (a dry bread similar to Indian Naan) and some spicy meat. The portions were plentiful and so i took much home afterwards.

There was a very rowdy atmosphere upstairs where diners are entertained by dancers and everyone was having a great time.

When i return, which i certainly will i shall dine upstairs and perhaps be a little bolder with my selections from the menu - Pigeon and a full 998 Yuan lamb await!!

Zhongshan Park - Shanghai

Changning Lu 780, Changning District, Shanghai

11-11-2008

Zhongshan Park (中山公园) is a common name of Chinese parks, in honour of Sun Yat-sen, better-known in Chinese as Sun Zhongshan, who is considered by many to be the “Father of modern China”. Currently there are more than 40 Zhongshan Parks in China, and some in oversea areas.

However, this review is specifically about the one in Shanghai, which i visited very recently for the first time.

I was hoping to find somewhere to jog in relative peace, and unfortunately was very disappointed on that score. As with most parks in China, it was simply too crowded to consider running around. Much of the grass was also cordoned off, leaving less space for people to enjoy. I was at least pleased at not having to pay to get in - many Chinese 'public’ areas charge for entry, so this made a change.

Without the option of running i decided to take a tour around the park and see what else was on offer. It took about one hour to do a full walk around the perimeter of the park, as it is one of the larger in central Shanghai.

Entertainment i found included various marital arts training, Badminton, two dodgems tracks, a ride for travelling around the park and plenty of eateries. The park was both clean and big enough to keep out noise from nearby traffic, hence is a good place to relax from the daily Shanghai hustle and bustle.
