Rosamunde Sausage Grill - San Francisco
Haight St 545, 94117 San Francisco
19-01-2009
Now that was a great friggin’ sausage!
First you take your pick from the display case - chicken with cherry? Duck? All beef? Vegan? If there’s no one in front of you, you’ll be waiting five minutes or so…if it’s a busy night, you could be in for a 30 minute wait. But oh is it worth it. Not only do you get a fresh sausage cooked to perfection (nothing is pre-cooked at Rosamunde) but you get some killer toppings (sweet peppers and grilled onions please!) and a freshly heated bun.
Rosamunde has spoiled me for good…no sausage will ever compare. Now if I could only make it down on a Tuesday to try their infamous burgers…
Suppenkuche - San Francisco
Laguna St 525, 94102 San Francisco
19-01-2009
I love me some hearty German fare and Oktoberfest beers. Sure, the place gets loud but does it really matter when you’re throwing back potato pancakes and boots of beer the size of your head with friends? I think not.
Make a reservation or you’ll be in for a wait!
Dottie's True Blue Cafe - San Francisco
522 Jones St, CA 94102 San Francisco
19-01-2009
First off, the bad…waiting in line at Dottie’s sucks ass, and not in the good way* Be prepared to wait at least an hour and fight off multiple panhandlers in a crappy neighborhood. That being said, once you make it inside you’re in for one of the best brunches around. Today I had an omelet with lamb sausage, spinach and feta cheese. Holy orgasmic egg dish Batman!
I may have been in the Tenderloin but at that point I felt like I was in brunch heaven.

Out the Door - San Francisco
Market Street 865, 94103 San Francisco
19-01-2009
Pop quiz hotshot - where can you go to get a fantastic meal with a little more than an hour to go before a movie? Out the Door!
Located next to the food court but world’s away when it comes to atmosphere and service, the Westfield Center’s outpost of Out the Door serves up some tasty Vietnamese food with style. Our beers were cold, our noodles hot and our waitress pierced. What more could you ask for? Ok, maybe not spending $25 a person for a quick bite. But you definitely pay for quality and I’d happily pay it again the next time I’m hankerin’ for some pre movie chow.
Mr. Smith's - San Francisco
7th Street 34, SOMA, 94103 San Francisco
19-01-2009
You would think that a club would be the last place I’d want to go nursing a raging hangover…fortunately Mr. Smith’s isn’t your average club. While the dance floor was jumping in the basement I was able to grab some couch on the mezzanine and have a nice conversation (without yelling-go figure) while sipping on a club soda with lime. I love the decor (it feels like a modern version of a prohibition era speak easy) and everyone who worked there was nice. And hot. Nice and hot are good.
The Warfield - San Francisco
Market St 982, 94102 San Francisco
19-01-2009
One of my favorite venues in the city…not as intimate as Bimbo’s or GAMH but much better than Shoreline or Oakland Arena.
The theater itself is beautiful, I remember watching Morrissey spinning around in only the way he can while staring at the ceiling. A couple of things-the view from the balcony is great but you aren’t allowed to bring drinks to your seats. You can drink on the floor but you get lots of dirty looks and elbows when you make your way back to your spot after hitting the bathroom.
Slim's - San Francisco
11th St 333, 94102 San Francisco
19-01-2009
My least favorite 'small’ venue in the San Francisco. Slim’s tends to get the rudest crowds-if you want to talk to your friends, go to a friggin’ bar, not a concert. I’ve seen a few artists actually tell people in the crowd to shut up.
Two stars because I’ve seen some really cool shows here including Tesla all acoustic in 1990.
Nob Hill Masonic Center - San Francisco
California St 1111, 94108 San Francisco
19-01-2009
I’ve seen everything from jazz performances to ski movies to pop shows at the Masonic…pretty much everything but a Mason’s convention.
Most recently I was here to see Feist…overall, a decent seated venue. It sucks that you can’t bring drinks into the auditorium - seriously, the place isn’t that nice, why not let us drink while we enjoy the smooth musical stylings of Ms. Feist?
Oh, and about those seats…they are not comfortable. At all. And I have itty bitty legs and a tiny ass. Good lord I feel for anyone over six feet tall trying to squeeze in.
Anyhow…three stars for being close to my house and for the inevitable Mason joke that every performer feels obligated to make about the place.
Hyde Street Seafood House - San Francisco
Hyde St. 1509, CA 94109 San Francisco
19-01-2009
It’s all about the happy hour seven days a week…a dozen oysters for $12? $2.50 pints? Yes please! The oysters were fresh, the beer cold, what more could you ask for?
Well, maybe one thing - better entrees. If you go to Hyde Street Seafood make sure and stick to the oyster happy hour; I haven’t been impressed with anything other than the oysters.
Za Gourmet Pizza - San Francisco
Hyde St. 1919, San Francisco
19-01-2009
Ok, I was trying to think of some cute ways to work “Za” into my review…
Yow Za!
Za Right Stuff!
Who Loves Za, Baby?! (ok that was a stretch)
But you know what? With pizza this good Za doesn’t need any gimmicks or catch phrases. The caesar salad was nice and garlicky with homemade croutons and the pizza arrived hot and in well under the 45 minutes promised (more like 25 or so)
Za is now firmly entrenched in my holy trinity of pizza delivery along side Uncle Vito’s and Victor’s.
