Stroud Vintage & Retro Fashion Fair - Stroud

Sadly our Stroud Vintage Fairs have been hi-jacked by Lincoln and Swindon based Ashley Hall Fairs run by Sallie Ead and Sue Harris. Just seven weeks after our fifteenth Stroud fair, Ashley Hall reserved two years in advance without giving us prior warning of their plans, thus rendering our continuation untenable in a town the size of Stroud.
We're sure you will enjoy their fairs as they are presenting most of our regular stand holders. Please remember that we are not responsible for the higher entrance fee or any other organisational or structural changes.
The original Stroud Vintage will continue to be represented through our Stroud Vintage shop at 30 High Street, Stroud and Time After Time at 4 College Court in Gloucester. (Unfortunately we will not be showing at the new fairs, as we were not invited to attend by Ashley Hall...)
But, despite these setbacks, we are planning new Gloucestershire Vintage events in 2010 and beyond - please join our mailing list if you would like to keep up to date with all the developments.
Finally - many thanks for your support over the past four years, while we were growing our Vintage Fairs in Stroud. And special thanks to our ever faithful porters, all the staff at The Subscription Rooms and The Space - our best wishes, David, Sandra, Ann & Toby.

Stroud Vintage Fashion, Textle & Accessories Fair
January 5th 2008 in the Ballroom, Stroud Subscription Rooms
On Saturday January 5th 2008, Stroud Vintage will be hosting the fifth of a series of regular Vintage Fashion, Textile and Accessories Fairs in the magnificent Ballroom of the Subscription Rooms in Stroud. There will be over 30 stands of the best UK sellers under one roof - encompassing textile, costume, jewellery, hats, gloves, shoes and all manner of vintage accessories from 1800 to 1980.
Vintage is a green as it gets, so judging by the first four fairs in December, you can shop till you drop without leaving a carbon footprint in your wake. Everything on sale is pre-owend, recycled and pretty much unique.
Stroud Vintage is held on Farmers Market day, so the town is buzzing like crazy. This is a great opportunity to satify both the inner and the outer person and walk away with some amazing and fabulous things.
There are still a handfull of stands availalble. If you are interested in selling at this or any of our future fairs, please contact David by email or phone on xandpart@aol.com or 07944 809808. For directions and trader information visit www.stroudvintage.com

I was surprised by the variety of stalls that were flooded with clothes and accessories from the Victorian period till the 1970s. There was vintage jewellery, accessories, womenswear and menswear. The clothes, ranging from Marilyn Monroe-style polka-dot halterneck dresses, to 1970s long hippie dresses, and including blazers and leather and tweed jackets for men, made me feel like I had taken a good rummage through my parents’ and grandparents’ wardrobes. There was a strange feeling that I had gone back in time. As I was having a look through the clothes at one of the many stalls, I spoke to the assistant and said to her that the fair reminded me of the shop Past Times and she summed up the fair perfectly by saying that this is “the real thing”, and it was.
The fair was adorned with a range of accessories that catered for both men and women. There were Madonna-style pearl necklaces and lace gloves for the ladies. For the boys there were cuff-links, old school ties and leather wallets on display. For those that wanted fashion accessories, you could choose between bangles and beads to complete your outfit. The jewellery was also exceptional; I managed to find some 1930s Filigree gold jewellery from Czechoslovakia that was finely crafted and exquisite. For those with a racier taste, the perfect finding had to be the naughty-but-nice lace corsets.
I went to the fair, dressed in dull black and a Tiffany necklace, and left with inspirational ideas to revamp my wardrobe and jewellery box. This really was a true taste of vintage heaven.
