We used to travel all the way from Meadowbank to go to this butcher - that's how good it is. Apart from the meat being always truly excellent, and there being a wide range of good quality choices and various unusual things - guineafowl, duck, pigeon etc. - , my favourite thing about Crombie's is the service. Because, like so many other people these days, I know very little about which cuts of meat are good for which recipe and all that sort of good domestic stuff, what is most important for me in a butcher is that they will give good expert advice without making you feel stupid or unwelcome. Crombie's is one of the few who manages this without taking advantage of ignorance - they always sell good, fresh meat. They're an Edinburgh institution really, and I hope they always will be because I may have to go vegetarian without them.

Sounds just like my old local butcher Axons in Didsbury. You have inspired me to write a review of them now!
